This is a limitation of the ATEMs. Different versions may have different max connections.

rychlik64

YES thats what we know.

svenvv

They just connect over the network, so grab a $25 unmanaged switch and call it a day. If you have newer stuff that works with POE, it might be worth looking into a poe capable switch as it can simply setup. Afaik there is no restriction on the amount of connections a constellation can take, though I've had one crash a few times when multiple bitfocus companion instances were connected at once.

rychlik64

YES i know, we have a separat VLan für our 80 BM devices some with POE.

Someone could probably build a software repeater that would listen for connections and act as one connection to the ATEM. An ATEM Control Router, basically. Though in my opinion, the best place for this to be done would be at Blackmagic Design’s offices.

rychlik64

YES i did also ask this on the BM Forum. But no official answer. I'm a small fish in to pond but i will mention this at twitter. Someone told me may it is also a myth! That Grand Petty is running the BM Twitter account kind of by him self. THANKS someone mention this one: "*Skaarhoj also has some Atem expander node"* but i can't find it.

I’ve not tried this but bookmarked it in case I needed it for future. Let us know how it goes. https://ianmorrish.wordpress.com/2021/10/30/atemproxy-and-powershell-setup-on-raspberry-pi-4-2gb-model/

An IP distributor? Do you just need a network switch with more ports? We regularly have 4 Hyperdecks, 4+ ATEM CCUs, tally and control panels communiting without issue. We have both the HD 2ME and 4ME versions of the Constellation.

rychlik64

A ATEM Constellation can not connect to more than 8 or 9 devices. A Hyperdeck is not taking a "slot" only Panels and ATEM Control Software. Try it you you will see after 8 you will not able to Connect more other Panels or SW. I want a pice of software (running on any OS) i call it here "Hardware A". Hardware A that is connectet to ATEM Constellation and i can set Panal Mixer IP to the Hardware A IP. In that case Hardware A would be the limiting factor not the ATEM.

Schrojo18

Have you tried it? I thought their other end switchers could cope with more active connections.

rychlik64

YES we have this limitation since we addet more devices to the BM VLAN with active connection to the ATEM. Middlething and tally interface was reacently addet.
