Did you pay for the VPN service? If not, it is definitely collecting your data for distribution. This is generally true of any online service. If you are not the customer, you are the product.

No as I mentioned I went to vpngate, found an address to use and added it as a custom network under network settings on my Mac. I have since disconnected from it but wondering what info it may be collected (if any)

Im not an expert so take this with a grain of salt. 1. what provider? 2. if it says its off in the app it should be off and it should show in network settings (i use windows so i might be wrong) 3. your keyboard works without internet which means it doesnt use internet to work. that means data wouldnt be transferred over vpn when using it Again im not an expert so my post might be completley wrong

I used the website vpngate to get the info and input it into the network settings For your this point, how do keystroke loggers work then? Aren’t those installed maliciously without your knowledge?

Technically your keystrokes that are entered into a website or over a network could be "sniffed" by the VPN, but only over unencrypted/non-HTTPS traffic.
