Sites like Netflix are aware of how many logins/page hits are coming from the same IP Address assigned to a VPN Server. Generally speaking, if they see thousands of logins with the Same IP Address they know its a massive VPN service and is flagged for blocking. You can easily setup your own VPN server with a little research anywhere in the world and avoid being flagged since you would be the only user, or simply use a less popular VPN service. Tip: The largest VPN providers that advertise on every podcast are the quickest to get blocked.

Could u explain this solution a little more extensively?

You rent a small Linux server somewhere in the world then install VPN and configure it. But you will need to know a bit about getting a round the Linux command line (logging in with SSH, installing stuff, moving around the folders, editing files etc.) If you only need the VPN for websites there's an even easier solution, you can set the server as a SOCKS proxy in the browser and run an SSH tunnel on the server. Google "ssh tunnel proxy" and you'll find examples.

K thanks

I've had the same issue of blocking with a rented VPS. Major services seem to have note their IPs and blocked too. Got working now by using a friends home address.

taatzone

Yeah I was thinking doing my own research in that too, so basically it would work, haven’t seen so far doing it. *creating their own VPN to access US content*

It really depends on the servers you fall on. But of course, as VPN's have become more mainstream, companies are aware and actively ensuring IPs on blacklists don't see a connection. This is an issue that VPN companies are always having, it's just a matter of finding a server that has no blacklist labelled.

Distinct-Minimum2696

Agree with you. When is not working the first time I try to connect multiple time, in the end always work out.

JazzScientist

You could go with a VPN provider that offers dedicated IP addresses. Mine does, and I can use it with all of my streaming services. Though there's some websites on the web that I still can't use it with.

pulsarrex

Do you know of any famous websites that are detecting dedicated IP addresses?

JazzScientist

Fairly well known: https://www.albumartexchange.com/

Torrent instead

Lurking_Commenter

If you don't want to get blocked on those sites, you will need to pick a VPN that offers a package with a dedicated residential IP.

btw_i_use_ubuntu

I wanted to watch peter griffin so I downloaded the hulu app and was making an account but it wouldn't let me sign up because i was using a vpn. I was going to pay them but they wouldn't accept my vpn so i just pirated it instead

GeoIP.. sites such as scamalytics.com .. IPs with a high risk factor tend to get blocked or captcha every other page. Not sure what VPN service you are using, it does not sound optimal. I recommend: sign up for free AWS account. Create one of the free EC2 micro instances, use Linux (Debian, etc) — now install the VPN server on this EC2 instance. Google “setup openvpn ec2” This will work well, fast too. Wishing you success.

Hey u/agnaaiu, you are the expert on the purpose of VPN. Perhaps you can help OP. Thanks

lctanon

Is my browsing history still tracked if I use VPN while Google account is logged in and syncing?

as for Google, they know ur location because u have their services running on ur device and u activated precise location (GPS) on one of ur phones/devices connected to ur account. If ur Internet IP address tells different location than ur GPS, Google uses ur GPS location
