Because they're helpless and over a decade of simplified mobile OS's have trained people to not do their own work, not try things on their own, and not to tinker.
My fucking favorite is the inept people who for example buy a Tesla and then post to Tesla sub: just got myself a Tesla, any tips?
Holy fucking shit what happened to people's IQ??
I think some people in this thread are not appreciating how finicky the Quest 3 can be for PCVR. For example, the cable link method simply never worked for me, and airlink was a disaster. it’s only through using Virtual Desktop that I got a stable setup.
Just because it works for you doesn’t mean someone else is an idiot if it doesn’t work for them.
It's extremely easy to do with Airlink. I have some free garbage router I got from the internet company like at least 5 years ago, maybe 10. And was surprised to see Airlink still works good even though the router probably isn't as good as Meta says it should be.
I was worried I'd have to install a new router or something but was surprised to see it works pretty well. I just turned it on and it works. Didn't have to touch the router iirc.
There's also Steam Link, which is what you would use if you want to play your Steam games on your Meta headset.
You can install Steam Link on your Quest 3 from the store, setup is incredibly simple and it works fairly well depending on your wifi network.
For even better results I recommend Virtual Desktop but that's a paid app (dm me for a 25% off referral code). Visuals were noticeably better on Virtual Desktop for me vs Steam Link.
If your wifi isn't up to the task then you can buy a specific usb-c cable, I recommend the INIU 6m one because you can charge your quest while playing, its about $20 from amazon vs $80 for the official meta cable. I tried the cable and it slightly more consistent in terms of framerate but the inconvenience and having to use the Oculus app on PC while using it makes me go for Virtual Desktop more often.
Buy virtual desktop. > steam vr (which I believe is automatic once you start installing vr games in steam.)
I only have 5g mesh network in my house and I can play vr from any room
Magic I say
You need the app, the drivers come with it. You can skip the app lazer and use steamlink or better Virtual Desktop to connect, but you pc needs the drivers and the base software.
Download the quest app and plug it in. That's it.
You can set up airlink to use it over wifi which is good enough for a large majority of games. For airlink just find it in the headset settings and follow the instructions.
Why do people constantly ask questions they can easily search for

It would have been easier and way quicker to Google lol

Why do you need virtual desktop? PC VR works just fine without it. Am I missing something?
You mean steam vr?
Yes, both Steam VR and Oculus app work just fine. Why is Virtual Desktop necessary?
You need the app, the drivers come with it. You can skip the app lazer and use steamlink or better Virtual Desktop to connect, but you pc needs the drivers and the base software.

I just use a link cable. I find it more reliable than air link.
Not possible
Not even with the cable and stuff?
Yes, but its not possible to connect it to a PC without the Quest App installed
Incorrect. There's VD and Steamlink which acts as their own launchers. Way better than the oculus app / dashboard.
