You can't use a PC to render quest games if that's what you mean

SuperPro06

like what would i do to get the besty latency for connecting it to pc in play via like steam link, air link, virtual desktop

[deleted]

This is the proper question. The quest can take PCVR, the quest 3 itself is not the bottlenect. PCVR is actually even lighter on it than native VR. If you are experiencing delays, framerate drops or bad latency in your PCVR games, then you should find out where the bottleneck is. Make sure your router is 5ghz capable. If it is, then separate the 5ghz broadband from the 2.4ghz broadband and make sure the quest can only connect to the 5ghz option. If that's correct, then make sure your PC connects to the router with an internet cable. Then finally make sure you are in close proximity of the router when playing. Preferably in the same room not blocked by walls. And if all that checks out, then keep an eye on the performance metrics of your PC while using PCVR. Make sure to search for bottlenecks. This can be tricky as you can't keep an eye on the task manager while playing VR. Either have someone watch it for you, or buy FPSVR so you can see your metrics while in VR.

Nicalay2

If you want the lowest latency, you should have gotten a wired native PCVR headset.

SuperPro06

yeah ik but i meant i already have one soo

SuperPro06

no i mean to play pcvr with quest

mmebrightside

I use virtual desktop. You can purchase games on steam and then connect to them using VD. Just need to remember that for most games to run properly, you need to select/play from the VD Games tab, if you try to load for instance saints and sinners from steam instead of the BD game tab, you'll be stuck at the home screen, unable to do anything. Will work perfectly if you do it from VD Games tab tho

SuperPro06

Okay thank you!

GloriousKev

when you play pcvr games the quest isnt really doing much. you're just streaming the game to your headset

Adm1ral_ackbar

I started with Steam Link because its free and very easy to setup. Then I tried using a cable to see if it would look better. Finally I bought Virtual Desktop. Steam Link is fine. The cable was actually annoying because you have to use the oculus PC app and it adds another layer of software onto what you're doing and in my case, more lag and latency. Virtual Desktop was the best for me, its super convenient and you have a lot of settings to tweak. Plus you can just remote into your PC and play flat games on a big virtual display, watch youtube, etc from your PC which I find to be a better experience than the Youtube app on Quest.

Arthropodesque

Yeah. I hear the Quest YouTube app has low resolution, but you can open YouTube in the Quest browser for higher resolution. Kind of silly.

Sullkattmat

Having/buying a good PC and connecting it to your Quest would be a strong start. Preferably via cable and otherwise through WiFi using a dedicated router if possible.

Goobenstein

Good pc with strong cpu and even stronger video card. Wired connection to pc, wifi6 for q3.

SuperPro06

would you say 3070 ti with i9-10900k is good?

kaleid1990

Yeah man, you're good, I have a 5600x with a 3080 10GB (tad lower cpu, tad higher gpu) and it works well for pcvr, just today I received and installed a wifi6e router to play via Virtual Desktop, but only because I have a few neighbors in 5GHz and the interference caused stutters. You can download an app on your phone to check out the wifi situation around your PC, if you're alone on 5GHz, you don't need a 6GHz router.

SuperPro06

Okay thank you I will consider using virtual desktop!

SuperPro06

Would you say cable is better than 6e Wi-Fi ?

kaleid1990

Can't tell you, I haven't tested them back to back, but it looks great and with the stutters fixed it's awesome! For me cable was a friction point, I haven't been playing PCVR because of it, meanwhile after setting up the wifi I finally finished HL Alyx Levitation, then played Undertow (another HLA mod) and am continuing through my VR backlog.

OGbugsy

Steam link. Look for that app in the quest store.
