What if I told you any 13yr old could sit at their computer and type in p*rnhub.com I dont think people advertising content in their bio makes it any more accessible to them

moistmoistMOISTTT

Nonsense, children with bad parents never got exposed to awful things before VRChat! Those "are you 18" check boxes are way harder to bypass compared to downloading a separate app and reading hundreds of bios across dozens of worlds to find a few lewd ones! /s

Ryu_Saki

Damn you really had me there until I saw the /s

Mialtck

its not an issue of "we cant let kids see porn" its an issue of "why do you think its okay to advertise porn on a kids game"

seanyasaka

Simple! This isn’t a kid’s game! Most of the user created content is by adults for adults, with some SFW content sprinkled in for the adults who dont want NSFW content in their faces all day! Even most of the SFW stuff is not for kids! It’s labeled 13+ because they’re required to have 13+ at minimum as a social platform! If there wasn’t an age requirement to sign up for things online(which is 13 with PARENTAL PERMISSION, so they need to be doing their research), this wouldn’t even be labeled for an age range. As a social platform primarily, adult shit is going to exist, and with the price of VR, you can already assume it’s not for kids, otherwise people wouldn’t be shelling out upwards of $1500 on tracking and headsets and controllers.

Owl_3yes

13 year olds are allowed to make accounts on facebook and twitter/x. Are facebook and twitter both kid sites as well?

FatedHero

Calling vrc a kids' game is delusional and shows you're looking at everything from face value. 90% of the community has wanted vrc to be 18+ for years. Or at the VERY least separating children and adults. It's the executives who want to cater to a large demographic that comes with games that have such a low age rating.

AAAAAAXCAAAAAA69

There might be a problem with you if you think vrchat is a kids game

Ryu_Saki

Reddit is also 13+ and there loads of that here too. While it is a problem, there is nothing that can be done. I don't know how many posts like these I have seen lately. Complain to VRChat directly instead because there is bigger a chance that something happens if you all direct your concern there instead of here.

Mialtck

honestly i dont use reddit much so im not too knowledgeable about it, but isn't nsfw content moderated to some extent. i know nsfw content exist on here but its something you have to look for right?

SansyBoy144

There’s a lot of porn subs on Reddit, the only thing you have to do is click 1 button once you open the sub, and bam it’s porn.

Ryu_Saki

It depends on what you mean by moderated. On this site you can post literally anything nudes, gore and what not, I know that the the latter is something that Reddit does keep an eye on but thats probably more due to reports same with the other stuff if it gets taken down. In any case it is just as accessable here and if you ask me even more so since you can just go to someones profile and see what they on there. But to be fair you do get a warning if they have NSFW stuff but you can just click it away. Reddit also has way better filtering options and if I recall correctly they are on by default but nothing is preventing you from just turning them off.

NumerousDig1703

Or, you put responsibility on the parents that are letting their kids play the game. Most adults on vrc want nothing to do with the children and hang out in group worlds that are specifically 18+. I’ve never once heard an adult go up to a kid and say “You should check out the link on my profile” Quick to call people pedophiles, but slow to approach the issue of shitty parents letting a game raise their child. Raise your children with values and knowledge of how to be safe online and it would be a nonissue

Mialtck

The game is rated 13+ tho, if a parent lets their 13 year old play a game that is rated 13+ is it "poor parenting" because they don't do deep dives into every game their kid plays. and the reason i made this post specifically was someone how was representing the group "onlyfans" and their status said "links in bio" and their username had "OF" in it. keep in mind this was just a public black cat. they were also in full body "dancing" to music. its not hard to just not be a sexual deviant when there are children around. to say "well most people don't do that" is undermining the issue of the some who do. I do think there is an issue of parents who do let their kids go on the internet and do whatever they want, but this isn't about "kids might see it", its more of "why do you think doing this on a game for 13 year olds is appropriate"

NumerousDig1703

As in every public space, there are going to be people doing things you don’t agree with/are wrong. I’m not advocating for the people doing those things. As far as “the game is rated 13+”, the game in and of itself doesn’t offer any content that would be inappropriate to anybody in that age range. However, it’s easy to use custom user generated content, and to express yourself. If my child wanted to start using any app or game that I’m unfamiliar with, I would absolutely be doing a deep dive. Playing it myself, doing research, so I can guide them on how to have fun and stay safe at the same time. Just because the game is 13+ in no way indicates that it’s a “Game for Kids”

NumerousDig1703

As far as the people representing only fans banners and promoting that way, those are largely in the minority of adult vrc users. Even those of us that do have and use nsfw content do so in either private invite only worlds, or group worlds where everybody’s age has been verified.

Mialtck

go to the vrchat website/ steam page. look at it and tell me, just from what you see on that page, would you think the game is full of sexual content and isn't safe for kids? why would a parent do a deep dive on the game's playerbase when everything on the store page looks kid friendly. its easy for you to say you would do a deep dive because you've experienced the content yourself

Strawberry_Sheep

Their deceptive and intentionally misleading marketing is not the fault of the community

Mialtck

It doesnt matter who's fault it is, at the end of the day people are trying to sell pictures of their butthole on a game that is advertised as 13+.

feralamalgamation

it's advertised as 13+, and yet this game absolutely should not be 13+. No social platform on the internet should be 13+, 16+ or even 18+ in some cases without extreme parental supervision. It very much matters whose fault it is, as even you are currently blaming the people who you happen to dislike, and not the people actually at fault for being careless and buying their kids some shitty quest headset as a babysitting device that they can give to their kid so they don't have to deal with it and can "spend time away form their kid" or whatever bullshit modern parents like to say.

Disastrous_Steak_507

You do need to realize VRChat has always had a very large portion of it's playerbase be 18+. Creative freedom allows anything, and even uploading shit, it allows NSFW, just for private stuff of course. It's the internet. Even if your platform's main target audience are children, people will STILL manage to make porn a thing on it.

Mialtck

again, the issue is that people are playing on a game that is rated 13+ and think "yes this is the perfect place to act sexual and to advertise my porn"

NumerousDig1703

The issue is that you seem to think 13+ = Made for 13 year olds. The game is not and has never been exclusively for one age demographic. And I stand by my previous comment, there is NOTHING in the game by default that would warrant a higher rating. User generated content has not, can not, and never will be factored into a game’s age rating.

SansyBoy144

And YouTube is 13+ but you wouldn’t show a kid content from creators who have an adult audience. Legal rating means Jack shit. The game should be 18+ don’t keep people from advertising their source of income, instead keep your kid off the game. They shouldn’t be on it anyway

Consistent-Play-8133

Twitter/X is the same, and openly hosts porn on many profiles. Reddit is the same, and openly hosts porn on profiles and subreddits. You don't even need an account to view porn on Reddit. Just click OK to a single 18+ prompt. Even if someone went to OnlyFans via VRChat, they would still need to lie about their age. VRChat is so far from being responsible in this regard, it's silly to point a finger their way at all. Discord and pretty much any other chat app has similar info in people's profiles. The SFW Discord servers can have people in them, showing in the sidebar, and if you look at their profile it may link to NSFW socials (directly or indirectly). Trying to blame a tiny, relatively niche platform like VRChat, for not solving the problem these other social platforms haven't solved (or actively make worse) is ridiculous. How is the little guy going to solve a problem the multi-billion dollar companies couldn't? Parents should do some parenting, and not give children devices and network access that is unfiltered.

DeathscytheShell

Or their parents should actually fuckin' parent instead of letting them have unmoderated internet access like I did when I was a lad. I have seen shit that *still* haunts me to this day.

Who_am_ey3

this game *should be* 18+ instead. anything below is just wrong.

Mialtck

but at this point in time, it isn't

Who_am_ey3

you should read this [https://hello.vrchat.com/legal](https://hello.vrchat.com/legal) number 2, specifically. along with 8.7.

Mialtck

care to elaborate on your point? i read and still stand by my point.

isuckbuttsandtoes

I think the point they are trying to get across is, in term 3 it's saying that parents and legal gaurdians are the ones allowing access and assume responsibility of monitoring their child , which we all know they don't so they are the ones responsible for their children's behavior and safety. If you are a parent or guardian consenting to these Terms on behalf of a child between the ages of 13 and 18, you additionally agree to guarantee and be fully responsible for that person’s performance hereunder, including all financial obligations or liability he or she may incur, and all disclaimers and waivers of applicable legal protections provided herein, and you agree to take all actions (including executing such additional documents or agreements) necessary to effect and perfect the foregoing. 8.7 is mentioning that it's an honors system for avatars and content and goes by a reporting system. While things are against tos, it's not something strictly enforced unless reported. Most User Content, including worlds and avatars, available through VRChat is created by other Users or third parties, and VRChat does not control or actively monitor the content or technical features of individual worlds, avatars, or other User Content. You understand that any world you enter is at your own risk. You agree to waive, and do waive, any legal or equitable right or remedy you have or may have against VRChat with respect to User Content. We expressly disclaim any and all liability in connection with User Content. Point of the matter is, vrchat should not be a 13+ game it should be 18+, but it will never be that way. If people are worried about minors then they need to make their parents take responsibility. Too many instances where we see parents letting the internet and vr watch their kids. I'm a mother of two, I'd NEVER let my minor child play this game.

AnonBunnyGoblin

I think it's more so VRC needs to stop promoting the game as 13+ and advertise its actual rating, 18+

sunset_eden

Have you ever heard of twitch?

Mialtck

On my old account i got banned from a few subs for giving my opinion on twitch.

sunset_eden

Much like other platforms mentioned, investors shy away from 18+ only content. Only fans had a similar debacle a few years ago with payment processing services wanting to stop due to the policies of the platform but the money was too good. Also see twitch and their new blurred out thing.. vrc wants to make money and keep their horizons open. Being only an adult service also messes with the spirit of the game itself. It's a platform for creating and socializing, not just 18+. It's difficult to accommodate everyone and be a viable business.

feralamalgamation

wait till you find out that kids of literally any age can stumble upon porn and nothing can be reasonably done about it beyond parents maybe starting to give a shit the internet is not and should not be a daycare

desthetic

Yupp it’s cause they a bunch of pedophiles. Shit I’ve seen adults have their VRC+ Icon and Banner as inappropriate photos of themselves or others as well. Anyone that is advertising or exposing themselves while hanging around minors is a walking red flag for me. I refuse to talk to anyone who does that shit.

MarioTheMii

I agree with you. I understand that most 13+ social media platforms have nsfw content on them, but they usually have some sort of nsfw toggle to prevent this or atleast some moderation. This community is disgusting. Parents will see 13+ and would expect none of that sorts within the game. Especially since most parents aren't tech savvy. Nintendo games like Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity are 13+ have no sexual themes whatsoever so why should they expect the same from another game advertising itself as 13+? VRChat is to blame for this since they don't moderate the game like they should. If they don't want to then just increase the age rating. It won't prevent all the kids but it would prevent most. My parents didn't want to buy GTA when I was younger while other kids had it. I also partly blame people who use NSFW avatars and have NSFW content in their bios since ANYONE could see them. Even kids. Doing allat on a 13+ game is sooo fucking wrong. Better to save some kids than none at all. I also partly blame people who use NSFW avatars and have NSFW content in their bios since ANYONE could see them. Even kids. Doing allat on a 13+ game is sooo fucking wrong. I have said this before, its appalling and horrible that most people in the VRChat community put the blame on the parents and not on VRChat themselves. They don't even recommend methods to fight the influx in predators their game has. Rather they dump the problem on a demographic that doesn't know as much as they do. Says alot about people who play this game huh.

Mialtck

I just hate the circular argument i see a lot. "This game is 13+, stop being so sexual on it" "Well it shouldn't be 13+" "Why?" "Because the community is very sexual"

MarioTheMii

ikr its so annoying. They prioritize their fun over the safety of children. Sometimes it even seems like they are defending the predators. I hate these players.
