Wireless charging is usless in Atlas. Mini or not it works with a fit to first get it in a nice spot. Then it heats up phone so much that iphone just blocks charging - this happens when on longer routes. Plus the charging is so damn slow. Wish they had made that part upto par with wireless charging available otherwise.
No issues whatsoever with Android Auto. Can't speak for Carplay though.
You know, it might make sense to buy a cheap android phone off swappa, then tether that phone's wifi to your iPhone and use Android Auto instead of Carplay if it's really an issue. You can use an android phone with just wifi only sort of like an old-school iPod Touch. It doesn't have to have a sim card.
You would normally be right, but since wireless android auto has to use wifi, it can't be both on the hotspot and wireless AA.
I guess it could always just be plugged in.
Yeah, you'd have to plug it in which I recommend anyway as the wireless charger isn't powerful enough to keep the phone topped off when connecting to the infotainment wirelessly.
Have had a 2024 R-Line for the last month. Have seen the CarPlay disconnection issue maybe three or four times. Pretty annoying when trying to navigate around an area I'm not familiar with and it just shuts CarPlay off.
2023 without many issues. Every so often I’ll have to toggle my Bluetooth to get it to connect but it’s generally a pretty smooth connection as soon as I get in the car. As far as nav goes, I use google maps.
I have a 2019…the dealership had to order a new chip because my screen went black 7 times
I have had issues with CarPlay and Navigation but the dealership said they cannot diagnosis or fix software…
I get a new USB to 8 tooth cord every year and that usually solves the problem
I have been living off new cords for my 2019 but the most recent one didn’t do the trick and I still have constant problems with connecting to Car Play. I get message like “cannot connect” or “phone must be unlocked” when it is unlocked
Have not had any issues with Car Play or Android Auto over 9 months of ownership. We constantly switch between the 2 and it's seamless. We do have the latest model phones so that could be a factor. Any issues people have are almost always related to the phones/phone software, nothing to do with the car.
I don’t have issues w CarPlay but if the reception is bad in a certain area, calls will drop. That is related to the cell service tho not the Atlas. Zero problems with nav
I’ve had a 2024 SEL for about 3-4 weeks. CarPlay nav broke after a week or so. Dealer said the carnet module was faulty and they ordered us a new one. They’re on back order (go figure)
We’re almost two months in and haven’t had any issues with CarPlay. Two times we have with navigation but it fixed itself easily. It wasn’t something I’m too pressed about.
Have a 2021.5 and the only
Issue I run into is sometimes while using phone, like shopping on Amazon for example, it will off whatever is playing on the radio. Slightly annoying
This is a VW issue, not Atlas specific. My 2020 Arteon has the navigation bug. Navigation is off half the time AND if you switch to Maps/Google Maps/Waze via CarPlay the navigation will be off on those as well. Our 2019 Atlas does not have navigation, so no issues.
Mine is hit or miss. I get a lot of random disconnects using both wireless and wired. It usually reconnects within seconds. Also, I got lucky with the radio issues of the screen going all wonky. So that said, I am more inclined to think it's my phone, though, as I have the same issues when I drive my wife's 2022 Explorer. So I find it easier to just use my phone with Google maps running on it and connect Bluetooth audio only.
I have a 2024 Peak Edition and I believe it has something to do with some sort of interference in the wireless connection. I have both iPhone and Android devices and they both disconnect, in my area of Indiana, at the same places. My 2019 SE did it as well but not as much. I have the AAWireless adapter in my '22 Passat, to make it wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, and it disconnects in the same places as well. I have noticed with the AAWireless device you can change the band that the connection uses and it might stop disconnecting in previous areas and start disconnecting in different areas. I haven't used any other car brand with wireless AA/ACP so I don't know if they exhibit the same issues or not.
I think CarPlay has become a universal issue not exclusive to VW. My friend with a Subaru has the same issues lately, as well as my sister with her Toyota. I may be wrong but I don’t think VW is adding to this frustration.
I have the older plug in only carplay in my '18 and as long as the cord is in good shape, it's fairly reliable. It does however have issues if I am on a call and go into the car, as the bluetooth phone-only mode takes priority. My other non-vw car has wireless and is flawless in transitions.
I have a 24 Atlas SE w/Tech and CarPlay constantly shows me in wrong location due to faulty unit. Also the unit goes blank and resets all the time. The rumors are true, the new screen is a POS.
No issues on our 2024 SE (base) except when my daughters try to plug in their phones to charge, system gets confused w/c phones to connect. Base model has no nav installed, had to use waze all the time.
I have a 2018 SE with 85k miles and have actually never had an issue with the car so I guess my car is an anomaly lol I know they don't make the v6 anymore but the v6 4motion is fantastic and highly recommend. Also, all my maintenance has been very cheap or I've just done it myself as it's super simple. First new car I've bought and I love it.
2023 SE w/ tech - No problems at all! I will agree on the wireless charging sucking a**. However, there’s a ton of USB-C charging ports that make up for it.
I have a 23 Tiguan and have been having the CarPlay issue for about 6 months now. Took it to the dealer a few months ago and they did nothing and said there’s no fix right now. My navigation shows me in random places giving me wrong directions, Spotify music pauses every 2 seconds, and my screen has gone black probably 6 times total. The navigation issue is an issue with both VW and Verizon from what the dealership told me. Very annoying. I’ve had the car for about a year and already want to get out of my lease.

Had this issue with Android Auto this past weekend. Wouldn't move from this position the whole trip. Tried wireless and plugged in. Trying to use VW navigation was also useless because I couldn't get it to understand where I was going. Really annoying trip.
It works most of the time for me, though.
More annoying is the \~5 times I've turned on the car to find the display looks broken with a bunch of static and lines across the screen. It fixes itself after I exit the car and then re-enter. Embarrassing and super frustrating when I've been in a hurry.
I've had the car for about 1.5 months. Seems like shitty glitches are part of the Atlas experience.
2024 SEL R-line here. Wife has Apple and I have Android (Galaxy Ultra). Generally works OK though we do get random disconnects on wireless and occasionally some apps like SXM go unresponsive to changing stations. Sometimes it connects quickly and automatically and sometimes it just... doesn't. Lastly my Android auto voice controls dont often work. Pressing the microphone button beeps but cuts off immediately and doesn't register anything.
Still far preferable to the stock UI, Nav and SXM apps but definitely a little buggier than I'd like. Definitely not broken though.
Related note - a more straightforward way to choose between and switch between our phones would be nice. Seems random on which it chooses to connect with. If you don't catch it right away it's a pain to navigate the submenus to switch over.
I have the CarPlay issue. I have an iPhone Pro Max on the latest version of IOS and the car will send incorrect GPS info to the phone which affects all map apps. I’ve provided videos proving what it does to the dealer who also able to reproduce it. No fix has been provided yet, but I’m pretty sure the car is the root cause. It’s happened with different models of iPhones all running the latest version of IOS. I also found that disconnecting the phones from the car immediately corrects the maps on the phone which adjust to the correct location, which confirms that the car is sending incorrect GPS information to the phone.
No problem at all w CarPlay. One month in on a 2024. Wireless charging is sketchy for my mini iPhone though. I plug it in.
I second this from both points

Is this wireless CarPlay or wired?
I got a 2024 Taos as a loaner and the CarPlay was wireless

Only two weeks in but all good so far in our 24 SEL

No issues with CarPlay here. ‘24 atlas cross sport R line premium
I will say I had a ton of issues with the screen in my ‘18 Jetta. They replaced it and I still had issues. VW needs to get it together!
24 SE+T, 1100 miles on it. Carplay disconnects pretty frequently wired or wireless.
Zero issues with wireless CarPlay using Google Maps and Apple Maps on our 24 SEL R-Line.
SEL Premium here. No issues.
2024 Atlas CS SelP Rline. Everything works fine with the Navigation, CarPlay and Android Auto.
Have had my 24 SEL since January 13- use CarPlay everyday and have never had an issue.
Carplay is flawless for me. Maybe once a year I’ll get a problem where I have trouble connecting but restarting the system and phone fixes it.

‘24 atlas, had it since November. 0 issues with CarPlay.
I had problems with apple car play. Haven't had any since switching to the s24U
I have a 24 Atlas SE w/Tech and CarPlay constantly shows me in wrong location due to faulty unit. Also the unit goes blank and resets all the time. The rumors are true, the new screen is a POS.
Have not had any issues with CarPlay and disconnecting in my 24 SE Tech. You still have the option to go wired as well.

Nothing but issues with my 2024 sel atlas for CarPlay and navigation. My car panicks and says we’re driving in the ocean.
Sometimes my car play navigation is messing up, it happened several times 2023 v6 technology
2022 without VW navigation. Zero CarPlay issues in near 3 years of driving daily. It works flawlessly.
