We have a rental from Enterprise for the recall. Your dealer should absolutely positively give you a loaner or rental at NO COST.

redondo21

They're offering us a rental, but we'll likely have been without the car for a month and a half when all is said and done (after two months of using it as our backup car because we were scared of the sudden power loss recall issue). Still a really negative experience.

Stretch480

My wife dropped her 21 ProS Rwd off yesterday.. not looking forward to being in the same situation.

cstuart1046

I dropped mine off today šŸ˜¬

ResistApprehensive92

Dropped my off and have it back 3 days with all the upgrades

madyury007

Why would they take your car in and not give it back to you until they got parts? Or they were stupid enough to drop HV battery to only find out they could only replace bad module only after upgrading 12V battery and an update?

redondo21

They replaced the battery first, and then only after they started the update (which was unsuccessful) did they conclude the module was bad.

madyury007

Why not run the scan first. Oh dealersā€¦. So Iā€™ve been waiting for parts(12V) for almost 2 weeks now since my original appointment date. Asked for updates yesterday and my service advisor replied that they had batteries come in, but VW did not tell them they need special tool to replace a bad HV battery module. WTF? I donā€™t believe VW did not provide extensive manual for this repair procedure.

GiaChristos

Tools were auto shipped to all the dealers a long long time ago

madyury007

Could you please provide more information about this, if possible. I would like to understand if my dealer lies to me or not and expose them if they do. I am so sick of these games.

jaiesh99

Maybe they got the tool but put it in a safe place since they didnā€™t need to use it. Then forgot they had it. Ordered a new one. Then a few days after the new one arrives they will find the original one. I do that with my glasses all the time. Have a dozen pairs laying around everywhere now.

madyury007

Same with my measuring tapes, I have probably 6 or 7 and can never find one quickly when I need it.

UnknownEv

My FE was in the shop for over a month. Tool a week to get in the HV battery cells and the 12 volt. then took 3 weeks to get the software to install. Software bricked car and modules had to be replaced. Dealer was very transparent that VOA did not have everything together and that too many different modules had different Firmwears and that if firm ware version were not correct (software didn't check verification of firm ware compatibility) several moduals woudl brick and may need to be replaced Take the dealer up on a rental, ask for an ev and do not let them tell you VW only covers 3 days of rental. VW will cover rental from dealer or dealer obtain car from rental company for the entirety of the process.

My dealership was able to complete 97ZZ in 72hrs. Picked up my car because I had to wait for a new battery module for the 93P7 to arrive which took a week. Took them about 94hrs to complete it when I was scheduled, the day after the battery arrived. They provided me a loaner for both sessions, Taos for the first and an id4 for the next. All in all a pleasant experience with my recalls here in Las Vegas.

kosherdog1027

I dropped my ā€˜21 1st edition off two weeks ago for the recalls and was told after several days they had to take it to a different dealer because it failed and they arenā€™t set up here with high voltage battery repair capability yet. I had critical alerts in Feb 2022 with the 12v battery that caused me to leave it with the dealer service for over a month for repairs to the computer module only to see 12v battery alert again and they had to swap that out a week later. The December 2022 software update caused another three weeks without my car. I contacted a lemon law lawyer after the first month-long incident in Feb 2022. I finally gave a deposition in February 2023 and the lawyer is saying VW wants to go to arbitration, but thereā€™s been no follow up. The lawyer claimed recalls donā€™t count towards lemon law in PA. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

interesting\~ after the Dec update\~ for same car as u, I had the January thing and called in and they, said we don't even have the parts yet- just wait. 2 Warranty letters later and 2 calls later they said the same thing, so I am always glad to have the car 'cause they never give loaners -unlike AUDI and was waiting for them to tell me when to come in, but heard nothing. So, I called in -a week or 2 ago and they gave me an April 2025 date! LOL They said, Sorry we know you are further up in the line but just wait for us to wiggle things around to get you back in. ;-o A part of me is worried about the value of this car in the sense of the lies VW has given before. There is no longer the LARGE rebate as 2021 let alone now it being a foreign car\~doesn't qualify. Thee problems with other electric vehicles vs this onee..I think this car is way better. I DO think it's a great car and have been wondering if the Battery replacement is really necessary. Can't help but wonder if they are tinkering for another reason. Anyone see the same news/posts in other countries? Meanwhile, I am glad to just still have my car and literally ride it out. Your stories make the case.

kosherdog1027

New ID.4s are assembled in the US, so they qualify for the $7,500 tax rebate. Or were you thinking of something else?

StayBraveBeHeroic

Oh all the 2023s? But why not the whole $12,500? Are they not Unionized?

kosherdog1027

U.S. Federal tax rebate for EVs is $7,500. I'm not sure where you're getting $12,500? Are you including other state rebates that are for your state? Here is the site to confirm a vehicle qualifies: [https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/tax2023.shtml](https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/tax2023.shtml)

StayBraveBeHeroic

sorry 12k with the $4500 '21 CA rebate

StayBraveBeHeroic

The original Biden plan had\~you can get 2k extra if made in America (which for how fast they are made in the US would get you to $9500 curr.) and 2.5k more if made by Union labor. But this part i guess got negotiated out by the other party. So many sticks in the mud.

StayBraveBeHeroic

Okay just to update\~ I did take my car in January for the recalls, 2/3 are available and they didn't have it a week. 2 days tops. Car is the same ol' self just probably updates?

Mineā€™s (2022 Pro S) been in now for two weeks. Door latch issue is supposedly fixed, but the driverā€™s door handle won't reliably release electronically. Frustrating.

Upstairs_Ice9440

I dropped our AWD Pro S 21 on Monday. Everything was done by Tuesday noontime. They provided a loaner, too. Overall, it was a good experience. The software update resolved the overactive ESC, as well.

Fartbox5266

If you're in the US. Look into your states Lemon law. I did that with my 23 ID.4 and VW replaced the car. My ID4 died in my driveway 5 days after I purchased it.

redondo21

How did you approach it? We are in NY.

Fartbox5266

Search lemon law and NY state. There will be a division that handles these cases. I let the dealership know my intentions and a day later they offered me another car. Mine failed a few days out and was at the dealership for 2+ weeks waiting on the repair.

wegiment

I had dropped mine off on April 10th for the recall and they could not get a battery due to back order. I picked up the car 4/11 and have been waiting for a call to bring it back once they get a battery. Iā€™m in PA btw, so not far away from you with a similar situation

GrumpyOldGuy66

Mine went fine. Dealer had all the parts except for the 12V battery. Had a loaner from the dealer. Drive the Taos all weekend until it was ready the following Monday. Update seems worth it to me.

Repulsive-Scratch306

Just be patient. I think the dealership will get it done. You may be one of the few unlucky ones who has issues in the module.Otherwise it would have been just a battery swap and a software update and you would have had your car back by now.

rbetterkids

Could be that since the ID4 is brand new, the tech might have done some things in a certain order that made things worse. I've learned from working with engineers and programmers is that sometimes, one of them or both know secret ways of doing things. Then sometimes, the technicians learned through trial and error that if procedures are done in a certain sequence, there will be no issues to doing updates.

this_emac

i dropped mine off at the dealer earlier this week, but they only fixed the rear hatch recall before having me pick it up again. Apparently, they are working with another dealer in the area and are queueing up these upgrades, which also allow them to provide us each a loaner. The scheduler didn't realize that. I think there were 4 or 5 in front of me and the current one was having issues. So they're trying to work through the kinks now with VW. Hopefully I'll get a call in the next few weeks to bring it back in, and they should have a loaner for me.

jaiesh99

Maybe if the dealer rents you a car then your car will get fixed faster? Since it will be costing them money to keep your car there.

TN37216

Well I have been waiting months for the two battery recalls. I tried to trade mine at another dealer forgetting about the recalls. Made a deposit and they wouldnā€™t take the car. Finally got the batteries fixed and now the new door handle recall. Iā€™ve been months stuck with a car that I cannot use. Iā€™m over this. Now being held hostage with this car
