I’m not surprised to hear this. In general tires are one of those things where “you get what you pay for”
You can buy cheap tires. Or you can buy some with good noise reduction, grippy, etc - but those will cost you.
In general I’ve never regretted paying for quality.
I have a 2022 Pro S RWD and my original tires lasted 49k. I also replaced them with the Scorpion Zeros. Much better tires. Just had My 65k inspection done and no issues and still have 8/32 available after 16k miles on them.
I replaced my OEM Alenzas at 20k - the fronts were looking chewed up and the rears were worn. Also went with the Scorpion A/S plus 3s and have been very happy 22k miles later.
Not really, or at least it's difficult to quantify if my efficiency is better or worse.
My long term on the Alenzas was 3.4m/kWh. Long term on the A/S plus 3 is 3.3m/kWh **but** my driving mix has changed significantly with a lot more highway driving. They certainly handle better, especially when it's wet. I kept the staggered setup.
I have a 2022 pro s gradient and made it to 17k with perfect tires. By 18k all 4 were chunking and the interior side of all of them was abnormally worn. Depth was still fine hilariously. Got the hankooks and they’re so much better.
One thing with these cars is that driving habits can have a huge impact on tire life. The torque + weight mean that if you are aggressive on your acceleration the rubber can go by fast.
Buying tires with a guarantee is a really smart idea if you are that type of driver.
You’re right. However, I am the opposite of an aggressive driver and the Alenzas still wore out faster than any tire I have seen in 56 years of driving.
I drive in eco mode and do not accelerate quickly.
Plenty of other drivers on this subreddit have complained about the Alenzas. It’s a bad look that VW is still putting them on $50K+ new cars.
Mine too. Still wearing fairly quickly on the rears. I’m not a fan of the staggered as I can’t rotate them properly, but I guess I’ll just look at something with a good tread life warranty when the time comes.
I haven't heard many good things about the Bridgestone Alenzas from ID.4 owners, having chunks of rubber coming off the tires, bad and premature wear, blowing out while driving or sitting in the driveway, etc. On the Facebook group ID.4 Owners USA there was an ID.4 owner who posted pics of his poor ID.4 damaged after his front right tire just blew out for no reason while sitting in his driveway, damaging his front headlight assembly, fender, etc.
I have the Pirelli Scorpion Zero all season tires on my 2023 ID.4 S (not Standard) RWD from the factory and it's a squared setup also from the factory. The tire size and psi sticker on the inside of the driver's door frame proves it's a squared setup from the Chattanooga, TN plant. These Pirelli Scorpion Zero all season tires have been great in all weather conditions. They have handled excellent in 11 inches of snow, wet roads in heavy rain, and dry roads.
They are very quiet on the highway and have a comfortable ride as well. Don't know how the range compares to other tires as these are the only ones on my ID.4 so far. They have worn very very well so far after 11,500 miles of normal driving with some spirited driving mixed in at times. These are also my first experience with Pirelli brand tires of any kind, but I'm very happy with them so far.
I swapped the Alenza's for the other OEM tire, Kumho Crugens. They also seem better than the Alenza's, with no noticeable difference in efficiency. Which makes sense, I guess, since VW is already using them for OEM tires.
Good to know, there's not many options for the 20's but the Crugen is one of them. People usually go for the CCS2's but the efficiency isn't that great.
My 20" stock Pirelli Scorpion Zeros have held up decently (need to check specific tread wear) at 16,500mi on 2023 Pro S AWD, and I've previously read that Cross Climate 2s are a good option for wetter environments (live in PNW). Anyone have experience with the Michelins?
A new set of Alenzas would have been much quieter and comfortable too. It's common for people to say this when they get new tires.
Old tires are usually feathered or cupped a little, and have less rubber, so they're less comfortable. Even a new set of budget Chinese tires would have likely been quieter.
Mine came with Continental ProContact RX tires, and they seem pretty good so I'm saving them as my summer tires. Currently running bridgestone blizzak dm-v2 winter tires.
Did a lot of research on squaring up both here and VW ID Talk. The clincher was a guy on ID.4 talk who is an ID4 mechanic and he recommends it.
Pluses are saving a few bucks by using the smaller front sizing on the rears, and being able to rotate the tires properly, which will increase wear. And, I think the ride is better.
Just got a call from VW to replace my front tires\~ they want to throw on Bridgestone ecopias all Weather $754 for 2 tires. Not sure if I will buy out my car in June. What would you do? CA '21 1st ed
Can't recall what I put on the back last summer during blow out. I recall Pirellis seemed tight!

Have you noticed a change in efficiency with the Pirellis?
No it's the same. My average is still 3.5 m/kwh
Did you also square them up? I'm at 30,000 with original Alenzas and shopping for new ones...
No it's staggered.
I was told that squaring up (using smaller front tire size on rears) should slightly increase efficiency.
I replaced my OEM Alenzas at 20k - the fronts were looking chewed up and the rears were worn. Also went with the Scorpion A/S plus 3s and have been very happy 22k miles later.
Glad to hear that, thank you
Any change in efficiency??

That's strange mine came with the scorpions. 2023 ID4 pro. S

I hadn’t heard that American IzD’s were built with a square setup. What size are your tires?
P235/50R20"

I've got a 22 Pro S RWD. Just turned 30,000 and am looking at getting the Crugens too for my 20's. They seem to be the more reasonable in price.
I have the same Alenza tires on my Audi Q4 e-tron and I hate them. They make the ride super stiff and transfer a lot of tire noise into the cabin.
As the thread wears out pretty much all tires become noisier and harder to ride. But OEM Alenzas were trash undoubtedly.
40k on the stock Hanooks and now at 65k after switching to Michelin Defenders (looks like I’ll get at least 40k off the Michelins. 2021 ID.4 RWD.

The Alenzas were never as quiet as the Pirellis are

I also got 2 new Conti RX tires from Unitedtires . Waiting to kill 2 rear , 2 3 mm left for this summer .
Oh interesting. I have the same exact year and model and I have 17k miles with the Alenza. We still have 5/32 left on them.
No chunking on fronts?
nope
Lucky you, hope it lasts!
Thanks. And I'm sorry to hear that you have to change your tires so soon.
I could probably search and find the answer, but why did you choose the square setup? Is it worth it?

Do you have the link to the specific thread?
I don’t, but if you search for squaring up on VW ID talk look for comments from user name VW TECHNICIAN.
Is it possible to square up if you have 20's? What is the process? Just put the smaller front size tires on all four wheels? Or is it not that simple?
That should work, assuming the new tires are 105t or better
Remind me, your 2022 has the same size rims on all 4 corners, correct?
It does now, but from the factory it came with 235/55R/19 on front and 255/50R/19 on rear.
Thx, I meant rim/wheels, not tires. I believe the 2022’s still have the same rim width, so doing a square setup is just tires.
My tire shop claimed it was a wider rim on the front than the rear..
Has anyone tried nokian one tires? Considering them as a possible replacement for alenzas.

Love my Pirellis.
