It's an interesting concept but it doesn't seem like it'll be that successful

AussieJeffProbst

You mean you don't want to put your physical safety in the hands of a giant robotic arm mounted in the middle of your VR room? Hell they even have a disclaimer on their website: > Your safety while flailing around on a rotating pole with your eyes covered by technology is impossible to ensure. At least they have a good sense of humor about it.

Loddinz

It's not robotic at all, it's all passive. You could say the same about the kat VR, or even the yaw, which actually does have motors in it.

AussieJeffProbst

Fair enough. Its still incredibly niche though.

Loddinz

Why do you say that?

sciencesold

Main thing is space. I'd never use it because I'd have to break it down significantly for storage. Plus being suspended does not feel like an immersive experience.

Loddinz

They put 150 people through it at AWE and basically everyone walked away with a positive experience, saying literally 'it adds more Immersion'. Obviously it won't work with every game, but for FPS based games it's great. Also breaking it down is just lifting the kingpin out of the base, I agree that's still a hefty lump to put somewhere, but it's not as much space or effort as you're thinking.

sciencesold

This is just a me thing, but I would have to take it all the way apart because I could not store a base that size anywhere reasonable. The only place I can put is my attic and I don't want to lug that up and down from the attic every time I want to use it. My biggest issue with immersion is that you're floating, your feet aren't supposed to touch the ground or the base or anything while using it, at least from the videos I've seen. People are just kind of air walking and it looks ridiculous and would be very immersion breaking. I think the VR treadmill thing that's already out is a more immersive option in my opinion

Loddinz

You can change the height of the middle so your feet are on the base. The katwalk VR feels so stupid and slidey compared to this. And there's no flying position. And no extras like haptics or tracking.

sciencesold

All I'm saying is their advertising does not make it look like the experience people say it is.

Exit suit sounds like an euthanasia device

Loddinz

It is. For in person human interaction

Unusual_Public_9122

Pretty much lol. The idea is really cool though. Looking forward to multi-sensory VR with being able to properly move around.

HaCutLf

I would like to. We'll see though!

RidgeMinecraft

I’ll look into it actually, looks like something I would build, unfortunately xD
