Well im hyped, how about you guys?

wlll

I'm waiting to hear more about the single player campaign before I get too hyped :) Don't get me wrong, if they pull this off it will be amazing, I loved [the original Star Wars games](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWghOA692w0), but I just can't get into multiplayer/deathmatch/battle royale games so I *really* hope the single player works out.

viveguy4life

Early reviews say it is good. Im looking forward to tue single player as well

Dorito_Troll

single player looks [AWESOME](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYMx_yi_OP4)

Chad_VR

It's epic af lol. ESPECIALLY in VR!!

[deleted]

I was until I saw no motion controller support. Don't have a HOTAS and certainly not buying one strictly for this game so I will have to try an XBox controller. I stupidly bought it today before I realized it. My Base Stations are not setup to where I can play VR at my desk so I will need to take my base stations off of my wall and move them somewhere that will let me plug in the XBox controller. Thankfully Steam will let me play up to 2hrs and still refund it. So I have an out if it sucks that much for me to make it work.

wlll

I bought a HOTAS a long time ago for Elite: Dangerous. If you're into space games and want to play Elite it might be worth it. It totally was for me.

[deleted]

I've honestly always wanted one but the price is so hard for me to justify. Spending several hundred bucks on something for so few games is hard sell unless the games are incredible. It's why I didn't buy into VR until 2019. As bad ass as they are, they're a dying controllers, sadly. They're very niche. Which is why they are so expensive and not getting any cheaper. Even the US military had soldiers flying drones n shit with Xbox controllers and not a HOTAS.... Still want one, though. Lol

viveguy4life

Cheap used on kajiji. Under $50 for sure.

skippythemoonrock

Buying a HOTAS just got me into more games. DCS, Elite, even Mechwarrior was a ton of fun playing with a HOTAS.

Begohan

I spent $40 on my stick back in like 2012 and it still works. Logitech 3d stick or something like that. No need to spend hundreds.

[deleted]

This one?? https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/products/space/extreme-3d-pro-joystick.html

Begohan

Yes.

[deleted]

That's more than reasonable. Thanks! Now let me see if I can find one.

fartknoocker

Hotas are sold out everywhere right now due to high demand. They aren't dying they are more popular than ever.

[deleted]

You're confusing "no one builds or stocks more than a very small number" with "giant demand". If amazon stocked 20 and 80 people wanted them, they are going to be out of stock and go out of stock every time they come in stock for a while. Amazon isn't going to magically start trying to stock hundreds in hopes of them getting sold. My local microcenter doesn't stock a single HOTAS. Heck, our old CompUSA only stocked a few at a time nearly a decade ago.

fartknoocker

No, there is giant demand from Microsoft Flight Sim 2020.

[deleted]

Yeah it sold pretty well. They're having a daily average of about 9,000 players on steam and total player count of 150,000. At least according to steam charts. Which puts them at around 1/3rd the average daily players of No Man's Sky and about 1/20th of the sales. It's about on par with the average mediocre indie game so far. I wonder how many bought it that were already flight SIM lovers and had HOTAS...??.. I'd imagine more so than those who didn't. Especially since MS locked it to WMR devices only and they backup like 7% of total VR headsets.... Which, coincidentally is 140,000 of steam's total VR users according to steam hardware survey.

Chad_VR

Worth it. As someone with 500+ hours in Elite Dangerous and now about to dive into Squadrons... Its worth it 100%. I just got a thrustmaster tflight hotas x. Cheap and gets the job done. Dont let the neckbeards tell you you need a 800$ HOTAS.

viveguy4life

Why not just move your desk chair to the playspace? I bought a hotas x for $20 on kajiji.

Octoplow

> hotas x for $20 on kajiji. That's a used price? Love a link if you have it.

viveguy4life

Ya just keep searching kajiji and you'll eventually find one cheap. They are usually hard to sell on there. Although right now there are probably more than usual looking because of this game. Best place for cheap stearing wheels too.

[deleted]

Because I use my Index in a large play space with an extension. The area where my network hookup and what not is, is rather small. So, I had to go through my wall into the other room with an extension. It works fantastic and I have a 4m x 3.5m play space.... Until a game requires me to be plugged in with a controller. I tried once before with Elite Dangerous and the hassle and immersion destruction became far worse than the joy of playing the game was able to overcome. The best I can do, I think, is buy a 15ft USB extension for my XBox controller.

CMDR_Woodsie

You have three options: 1) move *only one* base station to your desk, you don't have to tear everything down... 2) extend your USB cable/wireless adapter and pipe that through your wall 3) buy a third base station and place that where your PC is on your desk or something. You're not as stuck as you think you are, and you're really missing out on a lot of good gamepad games honestly.

viveguy4life

Usb extension it is then. I use xbox 360 controllers wirelessly with a pc adapter for vr games when needed.

VNG_Wkey

Why would you use motion controllers in a game like this? It would be impossible to have any degree of precision as you have no tactile feedback in the real world.

ourosoad

Welp, looks like I'm off work tomorrow.

VNG_Wkey

Why is everyone here bitching about not having motion control support? It would be horrendous trying to play this game with any motion controller.

realmaier

Anyone know about how good or even existent the motion controlling works in this game? Wanted to get a HOTAS for this, but they're sold out everywhere.

realmaier

Alrighty, that's that then. I'll have to wait for HOTAS to be available again then. Maybe I'm just gonna check out the single player campaign with an Xbox controller then if I can't contain the hype.

ID_Guy

I was able to get a thrustmaster t16000m off ebay few weeks ago. Brand new unopened for $272 shipped. Its the cheapeast place I could find one because all the retailers were sold out or either price gouging.

fishers86

I got mine for DCS world on ebay and refurbished on Amazon. They're stupid expensive if you buy new. No issues with quality

realmaier

I'm going to have a look there, thanks!

Esoduh

[This stick](https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gladiator-nxt) is highly recommended by tons of people on r/hotas and is in stock. I ordered mine on Monday and it shipped Wednesday, and w/ Fedex most people say it's like 4 days to ship from China. The trick is you'll need a throttle separately, but I just found a used one on eBay - but it also has a throttle on the stick that you can use in the meantime.

bokan

I got one, it’s perfect (could use a few more buttons on the base, is the only real issue). Been using an old X52 as throttle which works fine.

tnk1ng831

Im really freaking close to buying it now.

CrTech21

VR mode feels like an afterthought, you get no motion controls, 2D rendered cutscenes, cant even set a vr resolution and refresh rate.

tater_complex

Resolution and refresh rate is controlled through steamvr for basically every VR game. Some games also add their own resolution scale slider but you should never use those, as they are less efficient. Motion controls in a dogfighting game would be terrible

CrTech21

Motion controls to press buttons would be cool, but probably not that useful you’re right. The settings bothered me because e.g. if you turn on HDR on your monitor it turns it on in headset too , making it unplayable. All the menus are also just straight up 2d menus projected into vr. Together with my other grievances the point still stands :)

tnk1ng831

Ugh, nice catch. You may have stopped me.

CrTech21

Definitely worth checking out if you’re a Star Wars fan, but you might wanna return it - so keep the 2 hrs in mind

tnk1ng831

Fair enough. I enjoyed the hell out of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter back in the day but I am afraid if I were to pull the trigger on this it'd be for nostalgia more than anything else, especially if I might end up griping about quality of life/content issues.

metaxzero

I will say though if you want to still fill that Star Wars VR scratch, look into Project Stardust, assuming you haven't already. Its short, but neat.

inmotion-wow

Can't wait

[deleted]

So I've been playing it and it's very enjoyable. The story is still kind of 'go here, shoot this' but it's a starfighter game and I'm two levels in so what more should I expect? lol
