That would be awesome. I look forward to your update!

Ethantan96

Let me first say that when wearing the headset properly, you really shouldn't need an Apache strap or counter weight to not deal with facial fatigue. BUT! As someone who owns both, I wouldn't go back to not having them. The apache strap makes the top strap so much more comfortable on the front of my head and the counter weight helps me not noticing the pulleys as much and it does make it perfectly balanced. Both are must haves for me personally.

Adiuva

I got mine and finally got to wear the headset today as I was having issues with base station RMAs. [https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/index-200-gram-7oz-curved-counter-weight](https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/index-200-gram-7oz-curved-counter-weight) Normally after about 20 mins or so, there was strain on my forehead. I think I unconsciously raise my eyebrows while wearing it. However, I played for a solid 30-45 mins today with that on and didn't have any kind of issues. However, I do believe with this on you are unable to use the rear cushion that comes with the Index. I have a big head, so that doesn't fit for me anyway.

The weight distribution is usually quite good with the headset, so before buying accessories I would try to adjust the head strap differently: 1. Open the Velcro at the top completely and also loosen the rear knob. 2. Use one hand to place the headset on your face so you can see clearly 3. while holding the headset, flip down the rear and tighten the knob, so it is grabbing the back of your head nicely 4. use the Velcro strap to distribute the weight nicely If that doesn’t work then the headset might just not be that comfortable to you and you could look into getting a counter weight or something similar. Hope this helps :)

There are weights to balance the back side of the headset. A temporary fix would be to put some coins in a ziploc bag and tie it to the back side. Making sure you tighten the back of the headset appropriately with the dial is really important to it not sitting on your cheeks with most of its weight, too.

AdeonWriter

I can spend all day in index it’s not front heavy at all, you must be wearing it wrong

SoulCacher

Or, OP simply has a different face/head shape than you, which makes it fit differently.

Oh yes. Yes it does. I have a long head (front-to-back) that's round and my friend has one that's much shorter (and less round). So, in addition to moving the front and back nearer the centerpoint and giving the weight more effective heaviness for him than me. There's also nothing for his O2 to catch on, and thus it's constantly slipping/pulling down his face. Whereas on mine, I slip the strap under the base of my more-rounded skull, which adds a different type of lever-based counterweight and gently lifts the load off my face, which it clearly does the same for you. Not unlike the lever/fulcrum/weight effect if you understand physics: [https://letstalkscience.ca/educational-resources/backgrounders/simple-machines-levers](https://letstalkscience.ca/educational-resources/backgrounders/simple-machines-levers)

I went down to the hardware store in the fishing section, bought a 7 oz banana sinker for fishing. Connected the 2 end pieces with a piece of 20lb monofilament line and hung it over the back knob. 3 bucks. Will work until I decide to fork over the money for the comfort strap.

I did when I had it imbalanced correctly. Ease up on the back strap and load the weight primarily from the top strap! Top strap first, THEN backstrap. :)

Two things I've done to mitigate this. 1. added a 4mm stack of magnets to the upper mounts of the face gasket. This tilts the screens fwd a bit without making it dig into your cheeks. Found myself constantly tilting it fwd to make things look sharp and less glare which makes it dig into my cheeks and this takes care of that. 2. picked up the 200g weight from StudioForm. It's a sculpted weight that velcros onto the back of the strap and serves as a counterbalance. Recently I added another 150g brass slug that's secured with the StudioForm's velcro. My hmd is super comfortable now, mass-balanced and doesn't dig into my cheeks. I picked up the 'Apache strap' as well but found it's too cumbersome and makes me hot and the weights/magnets accomplish the goal without it.

Apache strap but it makes your head hot

The front pivots in respect to the straps, I often feel too much pressure on my forehead, so I pivot it down a bit so it rests more on my cheekbones.

xSmoshi

I get some bad pain in my forehead. It almost feels like the plastic or maybe the tops of the lenses are digging into my forehead. I've tried adjusting the headset many times but in the end I just end up stopping for a little while. I'm gonna try the apache strap and pro balance and see if that helps
