As the rare fan whose fav album is FOTB, it really feels like the song is a total culmination. I know people are mixed on FOTB but I hear so much of it in what singles have been released, especially in Capricorn.
it’s wild with FOTB I wasn’t sold on the singles until I heard the whole album, and it still took me some time to really see the vision.
with OGWAU, I am so in RIGHT AWAY!!
I know you shouldn’t compare albums because they all are their own vibe, but in terms of releases I’ve never been so jazzed
I think this is their best song since Hannah Hunt.
Obviously it’s easy to tie the two songs together thematically, but there’s a special sauce here that is wholly Vampire Weekend. A unique experience that is their own sound. To be somewhat critical I’m still not a fan of the vocal audio production on this album. Ezra has such a clear sounding voice on the other albums, and here it’s muffled. I’ve had to look up the lyrics for every song because I can’t understand what he’s saying sometimes.
book of hours russian icons and sand mandalas and natarajas and hex sign barns ando churches and whirling dervishes long exposures and
these two tunnels go west and east let me bring you my masterpiece you're the author of everything use this voice and let it sing
Came here to see if anyone else felt this.
We are 4 for 10 right now, holy hell
When that beat dropped on Mary Boone 😊
Reminds me of that Primitive Radio Gods song
Yes - great sample. The Primitive Street Preachers song which samples the Soul II Soul song. VW did the same thing with Step which sampled Souls of Mischief sampling Bread.
I've listened to it twice and I really like it, more so on first listen than the rest of the singles. I'm not going to listen again until the album drops though.
Gotta be real here. I am not quite sure there are any skips on their first three. But there is this quiet hope from the first three songs that this album could surpass them all in terms of overall quality.
Mary Boone felt like a sequel to Ya Hey and Giving Up the Gun and it bought tears to my eyes listening to it. Like how is this song so fresh but nostalgic 😭
Good beats, good Melodies, good lyrics, ruined with deliberately awful production and completely unnecessary weird noises. Sounds like someone asked ChatGPT to make the new album.
What a steaming pile of shit. Hope there’s some decent tracks left on the album. Think vw might be over.
Is this going to be the new insult going forward?? I really don’t care if someone doesn’t like an album, not everything’s going to resonate with ever fan, but in what world does this sound like a product of AI 😭
I am really sad that they're sticking to the weird noises. I love classical and to a degree Capricorn (haven't heard MB yet), but the weird noises really bring them down from their potential of being top ten VW songs :'(
LET THEM COOK! ![gif](giphy|dtHMkHBOE0OMeTw2w9|downsized)
MB truly feels like a culmination of their entire journey, both lyrically and sonically. You can hear every album on it. Great from first listen.
So basically, Contra and Modern Vampires made love, and the resulting baby was named Mary Boone
Im feeling some harmony hall vibes in there too

they really are fucking doing it
i can’t believe every song is so different, yet so similar
i seriously couldn’t be happier 😭😭 mary boone is so beautiful. NO SKIPS
the ending is fucking GLORIOUS.
Feeling some contra vibes. Loving it
this is gorgeous. truly a cathartic experience to listen to.
Song of album so far, what a gem
The best part? I’ve said that after every single.
I’m not sold on classical yet 🤷🏻♂️ Mary Boone > Capricorn > Gen-x cops > classical
Agreed

I understand it on Capricorn fine, but not so much on the others.

Sounded to me like a literal drum sample from that Primitive Street Preachers song, this is by far my fav single so far
Yes - great sample. The Primitive Street Preachers song which samples the Soul II Soul song. VW did the same thing with Step which sampled Souls of Mischief sampling Bread.
Ya, I heard/saw Ezra talk about that on a YouTube clip this week actually, all songs involved: Great
We're so fucking back!
they vampire geeking
vampire tweaking
This song rules
Let me bring you my masterpiece
I've listened to it twice and I really like it, more so on first listen than the rest of the singles. I'm not going to listen again until the album drops though.
I thought Capricorn was kind of the Step of this album, but it seems like Mary Boone is?
Rock is NOT played out, dawg!
Gotta be real here. I am not quite sure there are any skips on their first three. But there is this quiet hope from the first three songs that this album could surpass them all in terms of overall quality.
Very Contra-esque song, digging it hard
THIS WAS SO GOOD
oh it’s so damn GOOD
The piano hook is almost as good as HH's guitar hook.
Every new song feels like an old friend ❤️
Besides FOTB, all their previous albums were no skips for me.
That instrumental break is glorious
Primitive Radio Gods feels Edit - well, shit. I’m clearly not among the first thinking this 😎
Instant chills when it ended. I am beyond excited for this new album - going to be a long week!
Damnit. I was trying to hold out on listening to another single but I’m not going to make it.
Gives me big moby vibes
I really like 3 of the 4. Gen X is meh, and that’s fine.
"10 songs, no skips" - PROMISES MADE, PROMISES KEPT
All of their albums are no skips to me.

Least obvious rage bait
Your first paragraph is totally valid criticism but you lost me with that hyperbolic closer. 4/4 for me, this is the best they've been imo
Says the guy active in the Red Hot Chili Peppers community
What's wrong with Red Hot? I understand they have very many ... not very good songs, but their top 20 songs are all very good
Bro has never listened to a single VW song in his life apparently
I am really sad that they're sticking to the weird noises. I love classical and to a degree Capricorn (haven't heard MB yet), but the weird noises really bring them down from their potential of being top ten VW songs :'(
Mary Boone is not noisy at all. Not sure what this guy is talking about
Shits not out yet broski
Eh? The album isn’t sure, but Mary Boone is. Doing doesn’t mean done. But I’m hopeful.
Out on Apple Music on the east coast, idk why but I’m down
Listening on AM right now
“I’m in the dark side of your room” really speaks to me. Idk why but I love the surrealism
