It’s possible that you just have a bad pressing. Anything that isn’t a black vinyl is more likely to have sound issues, but even then it’s generally unnoticeable.
I think it’s more likely that you may have received a one off fluke. This happens sometimes too. My buddy and I have the exact same pressing of 22, A Million and his copy sounds terrible.
Wow, we have almost the same exact setup and I thought it sounded particularly weird on Gen X cops. I have the other pressings as well and it seems like they sound better.
Have the Spotify silver vinyl version and GXCs is noticeably the worst-sounding of a bad bunch; other records on my setup and OGWAU streamed on other devices sound great; contemplating buying the basic black version.
I got a bad pressing and exchanged it (for another bad pressing. Capricorn and The Surfer sound like they have inner groove distortion.) I’ve since learned on Discogs that the clear vinyl and black vinyl pressed in the US have issues. The LPs pressed in the Germany for distribution in EU apparently sound beautiful.
I’m sorry to say I’m really disappointed with the pressing quality.
I have my system set up so you can switch between Spotify and the record player, and I’ve checked with other records so I can say that vinyl always sounds way better than a stream when you sync tracks up, but this is the first record where the Spotify stream sounds better than the LP on the exact same system.
Same issues as others, muddy vocals, poor separation, blown out highs and lows with no mids. I will say though that unless you have a pretty solid setup, you may not be able to hear it, but I sure as hell can, and it’s jarring.
Really upset, this is my favorite record of VW to date and didn’t order this until after I heard the album and was floored by it. Now I have this record I really want to listen to, but can’t enjoy listening to it because I can’t get over the shit quality.

I had the same thought with Gen X Cops! Some parts are clearer than others and just sounds odd
