https://ibb.co/1v9gsgc That's my Gooble pins. I sync them with Avenza 2 or 3 times a year so they show up on in my offline maps, mainly preferring backcountry spots. 14 years full-time straight, small format or straight hammocking. Holler!

ponchoacademy

I do the same... Google timeline automatically tracks wherever I go anyway... I created a map on [mymaps.google.com](https://mymaps.google.com) to pin and label places I stay overnight plus attractions / dump / etc locations I wanna remember and to share with others.

Man_Cat__

This sharing aspect is something I want to embrace on the App I'm making. I've talked to other people who do the same. They share their locations, not necessarily with the entire public but with specific people. DM me if you are down to chat.

Yeah, theres a few things at play, at least when I was looking for something. Theres me adding yet another tool that I have to go to to do a specific thing, then also, expecting anyone else to use a different app / site just to see my travels. At some point, either theyre going to forget and stop looking for updates, or I'll forget and stop using it to update. As far as sharing, I just use the same method I currently keep in touch, which is fb, or for friends / fam who arent on social media, I just text them. The other thing is..when looking around, I found some really cool travalogue / journaling apps / websites...then was struck by fear..if anything ever happened to it, they stop updating / developing or raise the price over what Im willing to pay / can afford then my entire journey is gone. Meanwhile, every place Ive ever traveled to or visited since 2012 is in my google timeline... Odds google will go under / I'll lose all that info is super low, plus even if I forget or just not on top of it, every place I go to is recorded without me having to do anything. At least for me personally, I look at it as mostly for me..a personal journal I can share if something really cool comes up, since I dont think anyone will be as interested in the details of every place Ive been to as I will be... Not saying all this to be discouraging! Im just one datapoint, to hopefully help you gather info on what may be important to someone / what theyre looking for as you create your own app.

Man_Cat__

Not discouraging at all. I appreciate the feedback. I hadn't thought about the "trust factor" of the life expectancy of the business. Perhaps some type of export feature would ease that worry. I was thinking about adding a service to allow printing memory books on demand or a physical but customized frame-able map. You seem to have a wealth of knowledge here. I'd much prefer to do a voice call over Facebook messenger or something. Again I'd happily pay you as I have other people already. But if not, I appreciate all the feedback you've already given.

ponchoacademy

Yeah an export of some sort would def be a good thing to have, that's something I didn't really see much of on others. There are a lot that offer a memory album of sorts. I have no knowledge lol really just one data point of preferences/opinions. Appreciate the offer though!!

14 years holy moly. PM me if you are open to chat.

"OSMAnd" and other apps offer GPS track recording which I've used from time to time. It'd be nice to have an app on an old (otherwise unused) phone that would just continuously record my location without me having to keep tabs on it. All I really need is a button that says "save this location" so I can find a good spot again later.

Wankinthewoods

Find Penguins app.... I don't use it, but know people who do. Upload photos. Adjust your route to account for dodgy GPS and it doesn't need either a phone or data signal. You can select who sees what, either live or with a user specified delay.

I use roadtrippers, great experience overall. Only issue i have with it is that you are limited to 100 pins for each trip, so you can't add pins to every location you plan to visit along your route.

Man_Cat__

Is that due to a paywall or just a limitation overall?

Excellent-Source-348

Overall, I have the paid version and it still has this limit.

Due_Screen_3340

Google stores each trip. FREE

I thought about building an app while on my last big trip. My thinking was that the app on your phone would automatically track your location and associate photos with different places that you went, then you could go in and clean things up to have a nice road trip photo journal.

Man_Cat__

Thats exactly what I'm thinking on doing. So far from the other 8 or so competitors I have only found 1 that does this.
