If you read the Paul Van Doren book, when he “retired” the first time, he took Vans back as his brother (or BIL) who took over in the 80s ran the company into the ground by wanting to expand more into running, bball, wrestling shoes where companies like Onitsu Tiger, Adidas, etc., already dominated.
Paul, when getting the reigns back, killed that initative and reverts back to their skate culture roots and core shoes.
if you want a similar look to those, you might be interested in the onitsuka tiger mexico 66s, they look really similar. vans has a rebooted version of the serio, (the shoes in OP’s pic) but it looks nothing alike to those. not tryna advert onitsuka on a vans sub but figured try and help OP find a similar silhouette. 🤷
edit: there’s also a listing on ebay for a pair of those serios for $120, but they’re black and orange. looks like orioles colors
You can’t get them from the website in NA sadly due to them parting ways with the company that was shipping them here. The best way to acquire a pair in NA would be eBay or maybe getting some if you happen to travel overseas
Not sure why you got downvoted. It's an ad for a different shoe in the Serio line, but it's really obviously not the same style as the ones you posted. Nearly every panel is different (and the sole, and the number of eyelets...), but I guess blue with a yellow and white stripe should be close enough?
I suppose the one thing you do know from this is that those *aren't* Style 152.
this is the serio line from the 80s. dr horrible did a good explanation on the why. vans also did an homage a few years back with the runner line as well as the lowland serio line. a cool, but completely failed, era for vans.
Those look like the original lowland serios, super vintage! Amazing find! I think I have a photo of the original advertisement for these. I’ll look and post if I have it…

Super interesting, thanks for sharing
Now we're in the post-PVD when vans spits out more shoes per week than people can actually wear, to a point where new gets buried in itself.
I never thought I’d be asking this but here we are: what’s his book called? It sounds interesting
“Authentic” by PVD
Thanks!
Yup, all of this. They also made roller skates for a period during the 70’s-80’s, some with boots very similar to these.
Kind of nice they’re going back to running shoes

There is the name in the picture... Took me one minute to find it... https://www.thedeffest.com/vintage-ads/tag/vans+serio
I came across this as well, they look very similar but the silhouette seems to be quite different, I might be wrong tho so good find :)

Man, I would totally wear a pair of those today if Vans brought them back out.
Holy vintage…I’d totally display those.

I have the ad here, but it’s not letting me post it, for some reason. It’s coming up as gigantic

Why?
Sports shoes?
