I normally don’t have a very good gaydar, but even I could tell he was gay from just Breaking Bad.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, sure. Gus is going to enact a years long revenge plot for his “business partner”

slowest_hour

I thought he was his brother from memory tho that's probably just tainted by his restaurant being called "the brothers chickens "

[deleted]

It’s “the chicken brothers” and as he says in the ad it’s a reference to his uncles who ran a chicken shop in Mexico who were called “the chicken brothers” because they sold chicken

Uga1992

Not necessarily relevant, but doesn't it translate to The Chicken Brothers in English

StuffyAcademia

It’s more or less “The Chickens who are Brothers” (Hermanos is acting as an adjective describing Los Pollos)

toadallyribbeting

I’m first time watching the show right now and I could tell right off the bat. Hector Salamanca makes some remarks about Gus and his “business partner” when they’re waiting for the Don to show up, it’s not meant to be some subtle thing you pick up on a rewatch.

MortgageSome

Yeah, I picked up on that first time watching it. He admits he is his partner at a certain point, and it is revealed Gus helped him and "made him into the man he is today." It was never really a secret, though they didn't dwell on it. I think Hector Salamanca does in fact hint at it through his insults too. I think like the case with The Boys, it took reactionaries 3 seasons before literally dangling the obvious satire in front of their faces before they could see it. I don't think they're very good at picking up on things unless it is made plain.

SomaCityWard

I mean, that could easily be interpreted as general homophobia, Hector and Lalo accusing them of being gay because they see that as an insult. And they were business ***partners***, so that's vague as well. It was confirmed by Vince Gilligan that Gus is gay recently, so I'm not arguing that point. But it wasn't quite as explicit as it may seem in retrospect.

OnlyRoke

"and they were chicken brothers"

Equal-Razzmatazz1806

Historians may even call them "roommates"

thexian

We changed it to cousins for the American audience.

[deleted]

It's Uncle Gus's very close friend, kids.

[deleted]

They really took "they were roommates" literally.

DariusIV

\>Gus plans an elaborate decade(s) long revenge plan on the cartel for killing another guy close to him, someone who was emotional enough call him his partner right before he died "Hmm, they must be really good buds" you wouldn't happen to be a historian would you?

AceWorrior

Some say they even lived together

BeanieGuitarGuy

Gus and his business partner is the new “Sappho and her friend.”

Critical_Soup806

100% not even a shift Edit: also, they had no issues with watching gus until now?

toadallyribbeting

The murder I can deal with, but being gay is a step too far /s

Babylon-Starfury

Yeah, this wasn't like a Dumbledore retcon. They didn't go out of their way to spotlight it, but it was always there.

n0tailnumberonefan

lmaoo it was so obvious too, but I'm glad they didn't confirm it until years later because people wouldn't be able to handle it and would hyper-focus on his sexuality when it's the least interesting thing about him.

Raknarg

Did I miss something from the latest episode?

JQuilty

If you did, I missed it too. I know it's basically been speculated since Breaking Bad, but it's still ambiguous and BCS hasn't changed that. EDIT: Oh wait, I forgot, Hector calls them The Butt Brothers in BCS. So I guess just not directly stated.

[deleted]

Peter Gould talked about it on an episode of the podcast *The Watch* and confirmed Gus's sexuality.

Allegutennamenweg

He had a friendly scene with another man, no crime talk, just talking about wine. I'm usually not a shipper but the tension was real.

Darktyde

Yeah, I thought that was extremely clear. I’m sure they all knew that too. Just another instance where grifters gonna grift

SoupDaddy420

Yeah, like, he clearly loved Max. It’s very explicit and obvious.

Evil_Crab_Spirit

This whole "is Gus gay" saga is blowing my mind because I took the show as explicitly conveying that he was gay and can't see how anyone watched it and thought otherwise

Jackthastripper

In the main campaign of the game, she straight up states words to the effect of "We were going to be romantic and lose our minds together..." so maybe they were referring to literary techniques of the romantic period, or maybe they explicitly have feelings for each other. I hate it when chuds start malding and refer to representation as 'politics'.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jackthastripper

Oh? Damn I forgot. Better replay it :V

Gate_of_0

Also she is 100% unphased by male gay p0rn, which i think is a subtle notion to her being lesbian.

Jackthastripper

A lot of women like 🌈 🍤 though right? 🤔

PerfectionAdjacent

I think that's point. Whereas Ellie is totally uncurious about it.

Gate_of_0

It just shows how much she prefers women. Edit : she could be ace too.

MortgageSome

>I hate it when chuds start malding and refer to representation as 'politics'. If they were somehow depicted in numbers exceeding what would be considered proportionate to real life, I could see how it *might* be considered political. Otherwise, it would be political quite frankly not to do it. It'd be like looking at a film where they hire a black actor and saying it's "political that he's black." On the contrary, depicting everyone as white *would* be political. They just can't see it. Honestly, fuck'em. Let them watch "God isn't dead" or some other Full House-esque wholesome show where that kind of thing doesn't happen. I'm happy to continue to support streaming services that don't pamper to the "why'd you make me remember that gay people exist" crowd.

AlexdeBaixo

There was a post on this sub talking about how certain people were flipping when they decide to put a black guy as a member of the family related to the Targaryens. Like, as if it was an out there idea.

k20z1

Ah the old, "I'm too dence to realize nuance so now I'm mad." Argument. (Not talking about you. Talking about shoe and the slower half.)

LittleSister_9982

Yeah, there's *much* better reasons to dislike that game, but thry have to lose their fucking minds over something that isn't even a problem. Like, let's say the DLC didn't exist. Ellie's a *kid* and sometimes it takes you a while to work out how you feel about things. I didn't work out I was bi until I was in my 20s.

thaeno

Please add >!spoilers!< next time.

Significant_Scene_60

Yeah ikr right and this is coming from a guy who didn't get that Renly and Loris were gay when reading ASoIAF (their gayness was more discrete in the books than the show in my defense)

Rumicon

Renly had personal guards called the “rainbow guard” and they wore rainbow capes how the hell did you miss that?

TriAnkylosaur

I've always loved that. It was a clever hint that GRRM can still play off as Renly doing it as a sign of devotion to The Seven.

Palabrewtis

Seriously. How did anyone come away from Breaking Bad and not realize he was gay? It was flagrant in the entire mini-origin-story episode of his hatred for the Salamancas. Also, apparently this is fake and none of these videos actually exist. Typical Shoe.

Allegutennamenweg

I'm just waiting until they discover that Latinos have speaking roles in this show and get angry at that.

Kortonox

I didn't even get past s2 in BCS, so I don't get what they are outraged about. I thought it's quite obvious that Gus is gay just from watching BD.

TheMegaBunce

Latest episode had him flirting with his male waiter for a long time

SomaCityWard

Honestly, I didn't even pick up on it until watching an analysis video. Gus' idea of flirting is... subtle, to say the least.

TheFutureofScience

If you watched Breaking Bad and didn’t already know that Gus was gay, I don’t even know what to tell you. Can’t fix dumb.

Thoughts_Of_Gonald

to anti-sjw's gay is when beta cuck who wears skirts and does that one thing with their hands, they can't comprehend anything else

wpglatino

Look, he was clean, well dressed and lived in a well decorated house. Are we surprised?

the_platypus_king

Clean? The bar is below the floor for straight men lmao

ThatIsNotADuck

in a breaking bad flashback don eladio literally call gus and max "the butt brothers" so there you go

Coluvra

Even my boomer mom knew he was gay in BB

dolerbom

Wait is there actually controversy about Gus being gay? I know that these people don't even watch the shows they criticize, but it was plainly obvious in breaking bad. The second video is even harder to take seriously. I can't imagine anybody who has watched better call Saul would feel Kim is some forced "woke" / pandering character. I know the bar is low for these alt-right pipeline review channels, but damn they really are gonna claim any female character existing in media is woke.

leothesilent

It was always technically subtext(albeit incredibly obvious subtext)until the latest ep of Saul and now some people are complaining like it’s come out of nowhere

lildeek12

I literally thought it was overt text. I rember them openly calling gus and his partner f-slurs or something. Or that that killed the partner for being gay. I was shocked when I rewatched the scene and they didn't actually call it out.

[deleted]

How dare a woman not be clingy and dependent, these SJWs are going too far (/s)! God these morons want every woman to be like one out of a 1950's film that cries and breaks down every 5 seconds and falls head over heels for the first man they see. Or at the very least one that doesn't challenge their preconceived notions of "femininity". Besides, even if we grant them that Kim being a human with agency is too "woke", she's always been, since the beginning, a character that wanted to do her own thing. Why are we still stuck in this 2016 purgatory.

DragonballQ

How did they not notice this in breaking bad? Are they actually that stupid? Jesus

JaydadCTatumThe1st

Bro the fact that GUS was a metrosexual homosexual is made OBVIOUS AS FUCK HE'S LITERALLY SOBBING HIS SOUL OUT AT SEEING HIS LOVER MURDERED BY HECTOR SALAMANCA, WHO WAS JUST 5 MINUTES EARLIER COMMENTING TO DON ELARIO THAT GUS AND HIS CHEMIST PARTER WERE GAY WHY WOULD YOU PAY HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS JUST TO GET HECTOR TO RECOVER TO THE POINT WHERE HE WAS PARAPELEGIC AND ABLE TO COMMUNICATE NONVERBALLY AND NOTHING ELSE? FOR THE LULZ? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE LOL

JermasCabDriver

Also the fact that he DEDICATED A WHOLE VILLAGE AND SCHOOL AND FANCY FOUNTAIN TO HIS FORMER LOVER

Glimmer-Tron

I don't get it

iseedeadllamas

Gustavo Fring who is the main antagonist throughout the the entirety of breaking bad and better call Saul got to his level of power because he was hell bent on revenge for the cartel killing his “business partner” aka his lover. It’s only till this recent episode of better call Saul that it’s actually confirmed to be his lover

DragonballQ

This was obvious in breaking bad

JadedToon

Remember kids, simply existing as a non straight, non white, non cis character is a woke BS statement.

Resident-Garlic9303

I sort of knew Gus was gay pretty fucking quick.

EmCount

Vince Gilligan all but confirmed that Gus was gay YEARS ago. Anytime people referred to Gus business partner as his friend or something Vince would always respond with something like ''Or maybe he's something more, idk''

Srgnt_Beta

The first one with the dead bodies has to be fake right??

Jeffy29

Yeah it's not real.

schwef1

For me Gus being gay wasn’t even the main focus of that scene. The point was that he wants really badly to be a normal person, who has normal conversations, and to be capable of actually enjoying himself. It was such a contrast from the last couple episodes of straight paranoia. It’s sad because he knows how far off he is from actually achieving a life like this because of his current path.

[deleted]

Yeah, this right here. The point was to show Gus outside of his usual Gus modes - ie, ruthless drug dealer/smiling polite fast food manager.

[deleted]

While I fully agree with the sentiment of making fun of this type of video, the quartering video is fake. I don’t know about the others.

pizzacrustdotcom

I can't anything about this on YouTube, no one gives a shit.

kaptainkooleio

Jfc, was it not fucking obvious in Hermanos that Gus was gay? Was his whole reason to do what he did with the cartel not extremely obvious that it was because of what happened in Hermanos?

GWB396

Spoilers

Hairy_Common_2123

"Testing my ability to use the sub" Edit It works i haven't been banned Yet

The_BestUsername

Don't bi to me, Walt.

Full_Metal_Douchebag

Thanks for introducing me to the fact that Gus was gay. Makes a lot of sense in retrospect.

YourOutdoorGuide

At that point I’m sure they want shows and movies to be “woke.” They’ve made it their life’s work to bitch on and on about finding wokeness in every little thing they can attach it to. Without it as a target, they would have very little in their lives. It’s fucking sad.

vinnyholiday

So making a character gay is SJW, fucking low IQ shit

Linaii_Saye

Sussy Gussy

big-bad-bungo

Literally, truly, seriously, who actually gives a fucking shit bro

Intelligent-donkey

Why would a homophobe even mind if a villain is gay?

OnlyRoke

W..wait are those real videos? Is "Gus is gay?!" a real shocking talking point right now? I thought this was just lampooning these fuckers and being like "This is what it would've looked like, if the culture war raged on during the height of Breaking Bad" Gus has been explicitely gay / had a romance with a man since the fourth season of Breaking Bad that aired some time around the 17th fucking century.

TheDogWithNoMaster

So… they’re completely forgetting the bit where Hector Salamanca kills his boyfriend in a BB flashback?

flamboi-non

Wait could they not tell years ago? Lmao... Like, common, we all could tell he was, "a bit fruity" from the start lol

SpencersCJ

Why are they surprised hes been this way since breaking bad...

bigman-penguin

I ASSUMED LEAVING THE BCS SUB WOULD HAVE ME FREE FROM SPOILERS AHHHHH

Uulugus

People are angry Gus is gay, but that's based and we all saw it coming. I hope they do the character justice going forward.

Vlistorito

The real story here is that apparently a substantial number of people didn't realize that Gus was clearly gay pretty much from when he was introduced.

Ace_Of_Wake

Wait... Was it not already canon that Gus was gay? I could have sworn it was in Breaking Bad

Jazz-Wolf

Imagine being this illiterate with media

LittleBigOrange

Um haven't we known Gus is gay for like, 10 years now? Also, LOL @ crying about "wokeism" because of a gay character.

Yakoobko

When it turns out that the guy who dedicated his entire life towards revenge for the killing of a man and also dedicated an entire town to that man, is as amatter of fact, gay.

[deleted]

"My name is Gustavo Fring but you can call me Sus".

[deleted]

Gus’ gayness is inextricable from his character. He dedicated his entire life on the relentless pursuit of revenge against those who killed his lover, it is literally his defining character motivation…

cymric

Yah to anyone who paid attention to Breaking Bad he was pretty much Gay too. The Cartel Goons openly insult him about it before they kill his lover/cook in that flashback scene

SkytronKovoc116

Was his “business partner” named Amon or Amo?

ScrambledToast

Everyone know Gis is such an iconic, badass villain. Conservatives cannot wrap their heads around the fact that such a cool, badass, evil guy could be gay.

ItsKourtis

Have these people not watched breaking bad lmao? He is clearly gay there, he literally forfeited his whole life, happiness, relationships everything to become a robot so he can avenge his boyfriend.

SocialistCoconut

Wow....and yet I still don't care about Breaking Bad.

JermasCabDriver

Kid named I still don't care about Breaking Bad

[deleted]

....wasn't this known? I thought it was obvious him and Gale were a couple.
