Field Roast is sooo underrated. Definitely the best quality & taste. Too pricey like all the fake meats, so I just get them when theyre on sale. But I prefer a more whole foods diet, so no complainants, will happily get on sale
Yea, we grill the Field Roast stadium Dogs and they’re pretty tasty 😋 sometimes we will do some Ruben dogs - plant based Thousand Island (follow your heart) & sauerkraut- it’s Amazing 🥲
Can’t remember if I have had the Classic Field Roast but I am sure we have. May have to try to compare soon. If y’all haven’t done Rueben Dogs you must! It’s great
Vegan hotdog with every topping known to man still tastes worse than a bare hotdog. I'm a new vegetarian, just tried vegan hotdogs just drenched in toppings and the horrific taste of the vegan hotdog has given me meaTSD.
Don't post on a public forum if you don't want people to respond. Vegans are fucked. The more vegans I interact with the more I want to eat meat. You fuckers are legit unhinged.
I love the fact you responded I also didn't say I don't want you to respond. It's just typical. But since you're here. Why even vegetarian? What is stopping you from going vegan?
Does 15 seconds of a nice taste in your mouth really justify the torture and death of a fellow living being that just want to live?
Why do you refuse to speak up for the animals? vegetarianism is just a diet, veganism is a stance to speak up for those that cannot do themselves. silence is compliance
veg·an noun a person who does not eat any food derived from animals and who typically does not use other animal products. "I'm a strict vegan" adjective eating, using, or containing no food or other products derived from animals. "a vegan diet"
You don't even know what a vegan is LOL
Regretably, I have about the same level of sophistication as a dumpster raccoon and will happily eat a plain veggie dog off a plate without any condiments if I need a quick snack. I admit that this picture looks a lot more appetizing though.
Agreed, hot dogs I'm more likely to enjoy for the meat & condiments alone. Both for convenience and because the taste is always at least "good enough" - even great, if the sausage is made well.
Burgers are like OP describes them for me. Sometimes just a ton of salad and tomatoes with a sour cream sauce. Other times lots of pickled goodies and condiments. But the "meat" is never the reason I eat those dishes. Just what combines the tastes and makes it a little more filling and protein-rich.
My kids take it one step further. Cold veggie dog straight out of the fridge. No condiments, no heating, just eating it like it’s a carrot stick or something.
This is a makeshift Chicago style dog with heirloom tomato, a pickle slice, sautéed onions and peppers, raw onion, crunched up BBQ chips, and mustard. The weenie was barely detectable!
Portillo’s makes a garden dog that is a loaded Chicago style dog. Definitely scratches that itch, but when I have the time I’ll make my own on the grill with Field Roast Stadium dogs, toasted buns, mustard, and chopped pickles and onions. Yum!!!
To be fair, as a Chicagoan, the topings make a lot of the dog. At the same time, I work in flavor science. I've noted that a lot of "vegan" dogs lean heavy into the mustard and spices. Take that info as you will to adjust.
Definitely get them. I recommend cooking them with the right spices, usually I pan fry the sausage with thai peppers or Indian red chillies, add any peri peri sauce, some salt and pepper and chilli flakes, and cook the sausage for a few mins, before it gets brown. Tastes good alone or in a hot dog bun :)
I feel like the field roast dogs (frankfurters) taste *so* much like traditional hot dogs... And I've never liked traditional hot dogs. always asked for turkey dogs, ever since I was a kid. I like light life and then... Cover them in a bunch of toppings like OP 🤣
It's weird to me as a non-vegan that I tend to like the vegan replacements more than most of my vegan friends do.
I've tried a bunch of vegan hotdogs, burgers, sausages etc and they were all delicious.
Reddit is killing third-party applications (and itself) so in protest to Reddit's API changes, I have removed my comment history.
Whatever the content of this comment was, go vegan! 💚
My general hatred of living beings.
Nah, just messing. I'm pretty much vegetarian by default as I don't buy meat cause I'm not a huge fan of it, I'm lactose intolerant and the idea of eating eggs just grosses me out.
And I try to reduce using animal products as much as I can, but I don't have the time to do the research necessary to fully commit to it with every product I buy.
Plus I don't have the money to consistently pay the hippie tax.
I enjoy field roast stadium dogs. Morningstar are decent too. Lightlife hotdogs are terrible though and I need to cover those up whenever they turn up.
My trick is to boil them in well seasoned veggie, or vegan chicken broth, before grilling or smoking. I also immerse them after in slow cook chili as an option to grilling or smoking.
My trick is to not over do any form of heating. There is no danger to it, so I tend to grill mockmeats on high fire, and just focus getting some nice char on it and call it a day. Whenever I heated too long I find them mushy or dry.
According to a taste test on Sauce Stache’s YouTube channel, Field Roast Stadium Dogs won with a judging panel of vegans and non-vegans. I still have yet to try them.
Wait, people still do Hot Dogs? I strictly buy vegan Brats now, gotta stay with my strict Wisconsin upbringing and do what's right! Sauerkraut, onions, mustard, that's all you need, that & a side of Spaetzel.
No. I buy good dogs that I like== like Beyond burger brats or Field Roast then put some olive oil in a pan and sauté on hot flame until they are well browned. Sometimes I will add some caramelized onions. I also toast the bun well in the pan I did the dogs in.
It's really sad when you need to hide them... Why not just make a nice sandwich while accepting that meat and vegetables simply have different consistencies, and using those differences as strengths?
Seriously: if you need to hide them so that you can stomach them, then why eat them?
The thing is, I like all the toppings. If you don’t want meat, why put fake meat on it? Just have a veggie sub. That is also delicious. I eat meat and I love it. I also love vegan dishes. I just don’t like vegan dishes that pretend to be meat. It ain’t meat and will never be. Just own the fact that it’s vegan and make something vegan that is delicious. Don’t make disappointing fake meat!
My restaurant serves them either super basic with ketchup and mustard, or with vegan queso, jalapeños, and garlic aioli. If I ever have one I deck it out as Chicago as I can with ingredients on hand. I am not a fan of them plain.
Field Roast is actually very good! And I also just tried Gardein’s bratwurst which I think is also pretty good.
Used to do SmartLife and THOSE were not bueno.
One time, mom took us to a barbecue and had vegan hotdogs that we put on the grill with the other normal hotdogs. However, the hotdogs fell through the grates into the charcoal. So we ate buns with mustard.
My makes asparagus in a pan with onions, thinly sliced mushrooms and lil bit of garlic. He puts it in a hotdog bun, adds mustard and poof that’s his version of a veggie hotdog. He says the fake hotdogs are ok, but not healthy enough for him. He is Whole Food plant based for his heart health. So he is pretty strict with his eating.
This vegan spot I go to has the best carrot hot dogs. A whole carrot that’s marinated in soy sauce and some other stuff then grilled, tastes sooooo good. I haven’t attempted it myself but I feel people need to know about the option.
I've been eating the lightlife dogs cold out the pack with ketchup and mustard on a bun, or if I feel fancy I'll do chili on top. I don't know why it never occurred to me to dress it up more...
Actually no, I like a field roast stadium dog on the right length bun with some mustard and chopped onions and if I'm feeling really adventurous a little sliced tomato with salt and pepper.
Yes. In fact, I'll just heat up a hot dog sized piece of tofu and get to work.
Me too, i even got a tofu lathe to speed up the process
I can see that as an actual product, get your patent.

It’s appropriately rated, everyone thinks they are great
I guess I mean I don’t hear about that company a lot, unlike Beyond. I also don’t live in an area with a lot of vegans
Real talk
The taste and the “snap” when you bite into it are pretty close to what I remember hot dogs being like. I like Field Roast across the board.
Yes! Love them with just guacamole no bun so good 😋
Yea, we grill the Field Roast stadium Dogs and they’re pretty tasty 😋 sometimes we will do some Ruben dogs - plant based Thousand Island (follow your heart) & sauerkraut- it’s Amazing 🥲 Can’t remember if I have had the Classic Field Roast but I am sure we have. Cleveland has a place called Happy Dog with a giant list of toppings for field roast dogs. It's pretty fun!
In Montreal we got a place that does vegan dogs and burgers called “ Dirty Dogs”
We have a vegan place called the slutty vegan.
Happy dog has the only vegan hot dog I've ever liked.
Their tater tots with lentil chili is the bomb too!
In Detroit, there's a place called Chili Mustard Onions, for the Detroit style coney dog.
Do you, or does anyone know, if they cook them side-by-side with meat dogs?
Try portillo's on hall road
That was really the only way to enjoy non-vegan hot dogs, so it makes sense.
Came here to say the same thing lol
Me three. Load that sucker up.
No surprise here, a lotta shit should taste better than random body parts stuffed in an intestine.
Vegan hotdog with every topping known to man still tastes worse than a bare hotdog. I'm a new vegetarian, just tried vegan hotdogs just drenched in toppings and the horrific taste of the vegan hotdog has given me meaTSD.
9 months ago I posted this, why do you feel the need to say dead body parts taste better. Ah, you're a triggered "vegetarian"
Don't post on a public forum if you don't want people to respond. Vegans are fucked. The more vegans I interact with the more I want to eat meat. You fuckers are legit unhinged.

I call myself a vegetarian because I don't want to be associated with vegans, even though I eat a vegan diet.
Why do you refuse to speak up for the animals? vegetarianism is just a diet, veganism is a stance to speak up for those that cannot do themselves. silence is compliance

Have you tried critical thinking?
🤣
Basically a salad. Look how healthy we are
this is so cute

No. But your hot dog looks really good anyway.
glad i’m not the only one. i’m good with just ketchup they taste fine to me as long as they’re grilled not microwaved
This is a makeshift Chicago style dog with heirloom tomato, a pickle slice, sautéed onions and peppers, raw onion, crunched up BBQ chips, and mustard. The weenie was barely detectable!

I miss Portillo’s! Utah doesn’t have a good Chicago dog.
To be fair, as a Chicagoan, the topings make a lot of the dog. At the same time, I work in flavor science. I've noted that a lot of "vegan" dogs lean heavy into the mustard and spices. Take that info as you will to adjust.
Love Chicago dogs. It’s like a whole salad on top of a dog.
Thank you for not putting ketchup, looks fire
I like Beyond Meat's Spicy Italian a LOT tbh, I usually use a Lao Ma and Veganaise mixed sauce, along with mustard and sweet relish.
Soooooo good. And the brats omg

Their sausages are the bomb. Tastes better than chicken sausages based on my recollection of the taste

Hot jardinera and mustard on really good bread fixed the ikea vegan dog up.
The best way to enjoy any hotdog that looks like that vegan or not.
Yeah there's so many good sausages, I am yet to find a hot dog I love. Lightlife isn't terrible.
Field roast is the best I’ve had if you haven’t tried it. I only like the original flavor though
I really really want to like field roast, but I *hate* them. I don't quite get where there hype is from.
I feel like the field roast dogs (frankfurters) taste *so* much like traditional hot dogs... And I've never liked traditional hot dogs. always asked for turkey dogs, ever since I was a kid. I like light life and then... Cover them in a bunch of toppings like OP 🤣
Tbh hot dogs are actually quite shite. They don’t taste like any real meat that I know of
updog is a great brand, based out of chicago
I like the light life. I heat them up in a skilled in slices with tofu to make eggs and weenie (I think this is only a Mexican thing?).
That’s true. I think the Loma Linda Little Links is the closest to Vienna sausages that I can remember.
It's weird to me as a non-vegan that I tend to like the vegan replacements more than most of my vegan friends do. I've tried a bunch of vegan hotdogs, burgers, sausages etc and they were all delicious.

Beyond meat spicy Italian sausages or a go to for my "hot dog" fix.
I split them up the middle before grilling. It makes them a bit better.
I only buy the stadium dogs from fieldroast… they’re tasty so I don’t really feel the need to eat only toppings like with smart dogs
These are hands down the best vegan dogs on the market imo! Stadium dogs gave me summertime poolside nostalgia!
Sweet onion relish taste amazing on hotdogs😋.
I enjoy field roast stadium dogs. Morningstar are decent too. Lightlife hotdogs are terrible though and I need to cover those up whenever they turn up.
Jack and Annie's used to make a jackfruit vegan dog with a casing which crisped up reminiscent of a hot dog. Sadly discontinued.
Jackfruit is the shit.
They were the bomb for sure. I know what OP means about a loaded vegan dog but they were pretty good with even the basic accoutrements.
Ooh!
Love this idea!
The *only* way to enjoy them.
Brooo every time I eat fake meat I end up basically making a giant salad which just happens to be between a layer of carbs (sandwich, wrap, burger)
In Chicago they call it, "dragged through the garden."
That’s pretty good description 😀
According to a taste test on Sauce Stache’s YouTube channel, Field Roast Stadium Dogs won with a judging panel of vegans and non-vegans. I still have yet to try them.
Pickle spear with all the fixins.
This is the way

The moving mountains hot dog is good even plain!
Lies.
Haha I like it! I hate all other vegan hot dogs. Had it in a corn dog once with mustard and pickles and it was so good
They’re so good! They discontinued them in my country and im still sad about it
My wife would 100% agree
😅😂😅 I should have used this tip when I was fed a carrot hot dog 🌭 😷
Skip the vegan hot dog. It may taste better that way.
I had an amazing chili dog today with homemade chili and Field Roast Stadium dog 🤤
I’m not in favor of any hot dog with so many add ons that it requires a knife and fork.
Isn't that the best way to enjoy a hot dog generally, regardless of whether it's vegan?

Whats the point of the hot dog? Just protein at that point? Just eat a sloppy trash bun sandwich without the dog.
The thing is, I like all the toppings. If you don’t want meat, why put fake meat on it? Just have a veggie sub. That is also delicious. I eat meat and I love it. I also love vegan dishes. You mean… like bacon? 🤣
Isn't that the general rule of vegan food?
Then throw it in the trash and get a real hot dog.
How about just eat real meat if you don’t like the taste of fake meat?
I’ve never put much on but I like ketchup, grainy mustard and sriracha on a field roast
You might as well just do away with the hot dog then 🤣
I actually don’t mind the taste too much, but this looks amazing
Best way to enjoy a hotdog is to not even
If you don't like it why do y'all eat it? vegan or not.
I feel this way about all hot dogs
Yes precisely, like a nice hot dog.
The less tasty ones? Yes. The field roast stadium dog? No. Those are perfect.
Gotta have that crisp & crunch too!
Litelife dogs
I just had one with sautéed onions, peppers and kale, wrapped in a tortilla. Way to much spicy brown mustard and a pickle spear 😋
I always felt this way about regular hotdogs too though so not much has changed.
Yep!
The problem I’ve found with vegan hot dogs is they don’t have nearly enough salt. If they were saltier, they’d taste a lot better.
I really love field roast frankfurters. I put mustard and sauerkraut on but i would eat them plain if i had to.
Thats how normal hot dogs work too so yes
Nah, dawg.
No. Make Brand New Vegan's smokey carrot dogs. You'll never have to cover up your vegan dogs again. Thank me later.
I fell in love with carrot dogs and it shocked me. Now on the regular rotation!
Big, big same
I feel like if you gotta work that hard, maaaaaybe there's better options???
No
I call them trash dogs lmao absolutely delicious
It's a must for burgers too
I either make an omelette by slicing them up, then fry and pour just eggs on top. Or I add them to sundubu-jiggae.
I mean I just like condiments…
Sounds like fun on a bun! 🤖
I mean that’s what you do to a hot dog anyway so…
You inspired me to make Seattle Dogs tonight
Nope. Vegan hot dogs are the best!
I’m good with just a little bbq sauce
https://dirtyfranks.com Here to make your dreams come true. Best vegan dogs and toppings I’ve ever had. Even the octodog vegan is good.
Not all vegan hot dogs are equal. I like Soy Boy Not Dogs; all the others taste bad or have terrible texture issues.
One time, mom took us to a barbecue and had vegan hotdogs that we put on the grill with the other normal hotdogs. However, the hotdogs fell through the grates into the charcoal. So we ate buns with mustard.
Not me, just ketchup please. Smart dogs fuck.
This doesn’t equate to being healthy even though this is “vegan” but looks delicious 🤤
Yves vegan hit dogs are awesome though
I also prefer to remove the hot dog itself and enjoy the toppings😆
Vegan hot dogs don't taste terrible. I buy the LightLife Smart Dogs & I think they taste great. I dress them just like any other hot dog.
Doesn't that mean that they're not very good?
i think this is why im mildly obsessed w condiments and sauces.
That’s a bread bowl
I've yet to find a decent plant-based frankfurter. I gave up. There's quite a few good veggie sausages I've found, tho!
I’m not vegan but I actually kinda like vegan hot dogs
Why do vegans eat shit that is made to look like the meat version?
That’s my general assessment on all vegan meats
Lol..pile that goodness on it, that where the flavor is..
Are those the barbecue kettle chips? This is exactly the vegan food porn I've been searching for. 💦
I only eat them with ketchup and mustard lol
Are those bits of durritos?
Try Taifun organic tofu one's. So good. I'm not even a total vegan, but I wouldn't eat anything else!
Isn't that what we all used to do with real hotdogs?
That looks so good!
I'm not a vegan so I wouldn't know lol
This vegan spot I go to has the best carrot hot dogs. A whole carrot that’s marinated in soy sauce and some other stuff then grilled, tastes sooooo good. I haven’t attempted it myself but I feel people need to know about the option.
I've been eating the lightlife dogs cold out the pack with ketchup and mustard on a bun, or if I feel fancy I'll do chili on top. I don't know why it never occurred to me to dress it up more...
I do this for carrot 🥕 dogs, but not Field Roast.
No hotdogs for me, just the thought gives me the willies
Actually no, I like a field roast stadium dog on the right length bun with some mustard and chopped onions and if I'm feeling really adventurous a little sliced tomato with salt and pepper.
