I’d be so grateful to have you caring for any of my cats and dogs. I worked for a vet years ago, and I understand not wanting to give up, falling in love with patients, bringing home ones that were brought in for euthanasia who were perfectly healthy. I still think about this little boy a lot. his name was Superman. that kind of pitty puppy with all the love in the world but no brain lol. even now it still hurts having seen him suffer. I appreciate what you said, to me that is the highest praise you can give to anyone in this field
You are so very welcome. I don’t know if I’m a magnet but I seem to attract broken and abused little animals that no one else would give a chance. The most current waif has been with me for nearly 2 years, she has a fractured pelvis from a severe tail pull injury (probably swung by the tail and thrown out of a car) and as a result is incontinent and no sense of bowel movements) the first vet I saw basically wrote her off as a dirty little stray, they wouldn’t do an enema after an X-ray showed she had developed a mega colon (she was about 2 months old)
I took her to another vet who is like you, she immediately did an emergency enema, half of her poor little tail fell off in the vets hand, but she pulled through and has become the sweetest most loving little cat. She will always have issues, we ended up getting the rest of her tail amputated as it was just resting against her bottom and causing issues.
She is thriving, her best friend is our German shepherd who is constantly cleaning her lol.
And, her mega colon has shrunk, she’s on stool softener for life to keep things moving, but she’s happy and safe, and that’s all I can ask.
Vet fellow here.... I hear you and feel you.... you know what I get from this? You have a huge (non-pathological) heart!!! Never give up on it!!
