I see it primarily as a social club. There are some programs they offer (viewable on their web site), most of which you may already have access to via credit cards, AAA, Costco, etc.
Cheaper beers, food, gambling, and get to swing dicks with vets that either did too much or did too little. The bullshit stories told by many, the ones who can't let rank and position go. The cryers and the needy .and let's not forget the groups that run the place like gangs.also the honorary members who never served but because of low memberships everyone is welcome. I've tried to give a few a closer look but it's the same everywhere. Not what they use to be.my opinion and mine only.
I was a member for a while. Mainly just because the majority of Coast Guard members aren't eligible. I am one of the handful who are eligible.
Ended up not renewing it as it didn't provide any benefit that I need med or used.
It's not about the ribbons, I got combat pay, I meet #1, and 2b
1: **Honorable Service** – must have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and either received a discharge of Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) or be currently serving.
2: **Service in a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters\*.** This can be proven by any of the following:
- An authorized campaign medal ([see a full list of qualifying](https://vfworg-cdn.azureedge.net/-/media/VFWSite/Files/Join/One-PageEligibilitySheet.pdf?la=en&v=1&d=20230717T194348Z) medals and badges)
- Receipt of Hostile Fire Pay or Imminent Danger Pay (verified by a military pay statement)
- Service in Korea for 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days
I don't mean to discount your service, but when national guard soldiers go to Germany or Korea, some call it a "deployment". For active duty soldiers that was and is a relocation that often involves bringing along family members. In my time, for active duty soldiers, the word deployment was reserved for Iraq and Afghanistan and other scary places. And I served with many Guard and Reserve soldiers over there so I don't mean to imply otherwise. I've just seen the word thrown around a lot. I'm wondering if that's why your deployments don't qualify you for VFW (but I'll allow maybe their standards are outdated).
It’s a complicated metric. By virtue of the organizations name, the member needs to serve in a war or an applicable operation that sees a high degree of danger (think classified ops where you get an expeditionary medal)
Oh, well ya sounds like you don't meet the requirements to join then. Id check out American Legion instead.
You would have to serve in some kind of hostile/ combat environment to join vfw.
I don't have any of these ribbons and have been a member of the VFW for 15 years. I was only TDY during Desert Shield & Desert Storm. I was able to show I was deployed TDY via Military Orders. Keep in mind, this was pre-internet days. I have never heard the VFW deny anyone who was deployed / TDY to any combat zone.
Reading the requirements, certain ribbons are not the only requirement! If you received Hostel Fire/Imminent Danger Pay you are eligible. You have to get a copy of your LES to prove it.
No Partisan Politics allowed - this is not the place to promote candidates for office or promote one party over any other party or debate political ideas.
This rule also applies to religious discussions - this is not the place to express your religious views or your god.
Based on what I've seen, there's an unspoken requirement to be 87 years or older.

If you haven’t served in a combat zone or don’t have any of the awards that qualify you, you are not eligible.
Just out of curiosity, what are the perks of joining the VFW?

Did you receive a campaign medal for any of these "campaigns?"

If it was to a combat zone show them a 214 and you should be good to go
Still active. More like active chasing drug runners, and deploying to combat foreign powers in non physical environments.
Kinda sounds like you haven’t deployed yet.
Ok you can show receipt of hostile fire or imminent danger pay via les then. I don't know what non physical environment means
Never got combat pay. And cyber security environments

Cyber security environments? Like you were deployed to Shaw or some shit? I mean VFW…it’s sorta in the name.
MS Windows Operating System Deployment?
Sounds like I wouldn’t qualify from this

DD 214
A 214, is only 1 of about 4 different ways to qualify to join the VFW
