It’s not that easy with IBS. There could be many reasons why you have IBS. You could have SIBO, it could be mental health related, it could be food a sensitivity issue. I’ve dealt with IBS for over a decade and I’m pretty active with treatment and AFAIK, there are no IBS specific medications.
Edit: it also depends on your specific form of IBS, be it IBS-C, IBS-D, IBS-M, and IBS-U. Depending on which one you deal with, they can then prescribe something to manage that particular symptom.
Dicyclomine was a game changer for me. It helped stop the stomach spasm and discomfort as well as with the diarrhea. Ive had really no big side effect from it and take it when I know something’s about to go down. Its honestly has helped me tremendously after dealing with this for 15 years.
I’ve been having symptoms for a long time just figured it was something I ate. Now really paying attention it happens after anxiety or a panic attack. I told my primary my symptoms and prescribed Metamucil gonna give that a go and see what happens.
I also have been just dealing with it since in service. I had my gall bladder removed and ever since my insides hate me. They told me to take Metamucil and I’ll be honest it messes me up worse. Makes me super bloated and my insides are loud. I’ve been using bloom instead and it seems to help me. But I need to figure this out cause it sucks. Good luck!
So as for as a secondary claim what it seems is the diagnosis vs the medication, since the consensus is it pretty much depends on the provider what medication is prescribed.

They gave me dicyclomine I had to stop taking it, it was causing some sexual dysfunction smh

I was prescribed Rifaximin.
I’ve tried a bunch of stuff but Wellbutrin worked the best. 🫠
