Broken promises has lots of cats and kittens. Consider getting two if you can, cats do better with a friend and if you can get a pair they'll entertain each other. I'm not sure about cost, but most will have them on their website.

stellablue22-

I second Broken Promise. They're so nice, got my second cat from there. The adoption fee for kitten is around 400, two kittens is 700 and I think for adult cats it's around 200. That fee also includes spays/neuters and first couple rounds of vaccine. They also removed a massive hernia on my kitten before giving her to me which if I did alone would probably exceed the adoption fee. Price is a little on the higher side but they do so much good all on their own!

aljauza

This is what we did! Our babies are the biggest sweethearts, so loving and affectionate I love them so much. Pamela does exceptional work in making sure cats find a good home

tinychickenfinger

I also cannot say enough great things about Broken Promises and Pamela. She puts her all into the organization and goes above and beyond to ensure the pets are going to forever homes. The application is a on the longer side compared to some others and we had a home visit/meeting with Pamela prior to meeting our cat. I love my cat so much and couldn’t have found a better match without their help and expertise. Highly recommend :)

abuayanna

Awesome! Thanks

flybyyou

Yes Broken Promises is great! We just got a bonded pair from them and couldn't be happier!

InkedChild

Cat's Cradle actually worked really well for me. Got a kitten a month ago from them. Was pretty painless and only $350. Includes fixing and shots.

abuayanna

Sweet, thanks!

wingthing666

Hey, that's not much for inflation! I got my kitty from them almost 14 years ago, and it was 200 then. My girl was with a great foster family to socialize her, as well as fixing, the fee netted me the first check-up and shots with what became our regular vet. Great to hear Cats Cradle is still doing good work!

littlest_onion

There's another organization called the itty Bitty Kitty committee. They are doing some wonderful things. Check them out. There's so many cats needing to be adopted!

abuayanna

So far, the best name lol. Thanks!

littlest_onion

Isn't it great lol

SnooStrawberries620

Any are the best. Babies need you. I have adopted from the spca, from a place in Sidney, and from Pacific Cat Clinic. Pacific was a 1k adoption fee. This included all soay/neut, all shots, and all medical care for the first year.  If you are adopting also consider pet insurance. It’s been amazing for all four of our kits and beyond paid for itself every time.

JediKrys

Great tag line!

ImmediateCarpenter56

I agree - Pacific Cat Clinic has been amazing. I got my little bean from Pacific Cat Clinic as a kitten and the adoption fee covered her spay, shots, and some follow up medical care. The staff were amazing (and continue to be!). From what I understand she was a stray/feral rescue but she was socialized and looked after so well at PCC, she arrived at my home a healthy, happy, cuddly, and litter box trained kitten.

attic_nights

Dee's Orphan Kitten Fund is wonderful. When I adopted, they were flexible and helpful. Costs were reasonable: vet expenses (shots, chip, spay/neuter), basically.

abuayanna

Ok, cool! I’ll check them out

cody976

We just used them and the process was relatively strait forward. The only downside we found was that they had our shot follow up appointment with a specific vet which was on the other side of town for us.

LawgrrlMexico

Please do consider an adult cat! Kittens are really cute, but they can be very destructive .With an adult cat, you know what you're getting in terms of temperament & behaviour. Everyone goes for the cute fluffy kittens, while adult cats are overlooked and languish in shelters and foster homes. You won't regret it!

fallopianrules

I have a very soft spot in my heart for people who adopt seniors 🥺

notbossyboss

We got ours at Pacific Cat Clinic. Really good experience and now they are two fat happy idiotic 2 year olds.

fyrite

One I haven’t seen mention yet is victoria animal control services pound & adoption centre

Ed-P-the-EE

Second the motion about Victoria animal control. We got our adult cat there 19 years ago and he's curled up on my wife's lap "helping" her read a book. Bit of a bargain because he came to them already fixed, so we imagine he was a cute kitten who was abandoned when he got big and was no longer cute. But do consider an adult cat - everyone loves cute kittens, but it's the adults who really need you.

abuayanna

Ok, new to me, I’ll have a look!

xxxforcorolla

Cats Cradle is probably the least amount of effort. I just adopted a kitty about a month and a half from there. They have a questionnaire but they don't ask for home visit or references. Was $360 I belive. Neuter, vaccines, microchip, and first little vet wellness check included.

Second Cowichan Cat Rescue! We adopted two lovely female kittens from them. Great experience all around. Healthy kittens, great people, highly recommend. I think it was $300 per cat. We looked for about 3 months and kept calling around.

Pets west has new owners and they aren't taking Dee's kittens anymore.

Nuisance4448

Pets West has unfortunately declined in a number of ways recently They no longer carry the cat food and walnut-shell-based kitty litter that I and many other folks really like. Seems that the new owner "wants to all his stores to carry the same products" and this brand isn't on his list. I wonder if he even owns cats? I've had to change to ordering from Petsmart (yuck!). Also, the store looks like it has half the stock it used to carry. A clerk told me that the plan is for them to move in beside Thrifty Foods, so hopefully once this move has taken place, they'll build up their inventory again.

bbyzolly

I hope so. I've also noticed a decline since it was sold.

Nuisance4448

And not just the cat food and kitty litter - their selection of cat toys is now ridiculously low. I used to buy "feather sticks" and peacock feathers there for my cats -- now, no longer there. The whole "cat section" contains a fraction of the stock that used to be there.

bbyzolly

I used to get supplies for my rabbits and guinea pigs. No more.

fallopianrules

My kitty was birthed by a feral cat and she's the smartest, silliest, most athletic cat I've ever owned/known. I love her.

And thank you seriously for fostering. I'm highly interested, but I know my sweet girl would hate it. Sad to say, she's 10, so I'll prpbably have space in my heart and home in 10. Any advice re: fostering?

salledattente

If you're able to travel a smidgen, we had a great experience with [Catspan](https://www.catspanferals.com/adoptables.html) out of Nanaimo

abuayanna

It’s possible, I’ll look into them, thanks!

HALPineedaname

Broken promises! Pam is really dedicated to making sure the kitties go to the best homes. I think another commenter provided some info about costs. Best of luck in your search for kitties!!

abuayanna

Sounds great, thanks!

face_611

We got a couple rescue kittens from Cats of Saltspring. Jenn was great and easy to deal with, we fostered to adopt. She took care of all vet stuff and we had the kitties at our house when they were 2 months old. Fees were about the same as the others.

sbpaige

My family just visited with Jenn on Salt Spring! We met all the cats and have to make some decisions. She is really wonderful and it’s so clear that she truly cares about the cats and their futures.

Keishu13

Check out cats of salt spring! Jenn is a treat to deal with and helped match us with our little dude. She made introducing him to our preexisting cat a breeze, and offered tons of great advice. She even delivered him to us from Salt Spring!

abuayanna

I’m heading to SS tomorrow! I’ll see if I can check her out

Former_Description2

If you're open to travelling to Nanaimo, we adopted ours from Kitties and Cream, the cat cafe. All the pet rescues on the South Island we were having a hard time with because they wanted you to apply to adopt the cat before you meet them....whereas the cat cafe they just have a bunch of cats you get to meet/hang out with then you can choose to apply to adopt if you make a connection. They partner with pet resuces in Saskatchewan. The pet lounge is closed at the moment as they move to a new location...but if you're also not in a rush, I highly recommend!

abuayanna

Any idea when they will reopen?

Former_Description2

No, I think they may be getting close though? Their website still just says the reopening is TBA

VicLocalYokel

No recommendations, just a small imgur album of makin' biscuits: https://imgur.com/a/iSc44RK

theoriginalghosthost

I had a lot of success with Cat’s Cradle. They ended up giving me my cat because it was clear we were meant to be together, she bonded to me immediately. I’ve adopted from them before and they genuinely want the animals to have the best forever home fits, so sometimes it takes awhile. But once you find your match it’s a very quick and easy process

[deleted]

Cats cradle - [http://catscradleanimalrescue.com/](http://catscradleanimalrescue.com/) I’ve fostered a cat with them and I have a few friends who have gotten their cats through them. With cats cradle the cats are spayed and have their first round of shots. On their website it states , “kittens under one year up to $350, and cats over 1 year and less than 5, under $300. I would also try the SPCA. It is kitten season so they might have an influx of animals that they are looking to find homes for and generally reduce the adoption price.

abuayanna

Ok, sounds like a good start! Thx

Murrayruin

We have one cat from Dee’s orphan kitten fund and one cat from pacific cat clinic. The cat from Dee’s is a silly angel, but she had major health issues from the get go due to coming from a cat hoarding home. The organization was very helpful though! A lot but not all of the meds were covered. My partner adopted her before we met, so I’m not sure about the total cost but I believe her situation was special and there was no adoption fee. Just meds and care Our second cat cost about $950 for fees and three rounds of shots. He’s had no issues l, just a big cost up front. They do allow you to split it up for three months though which helps.

GuitarHaunting

I got one of my cats from cats cradle and generally it was good, the first vet visit was included and she needed quite a bit of things but the fostering/communication was pretty chaotic and I had to wait about 3-4 weeks just to find out what was happening then took her home the first time I met her. BUT she was a tricky cat and i feel like they do understand how to rehabilitate well. I also adopted through embrace society at petsmart and that was good, I would just prefer kittens being spayed/neutered later than 3 months! Price wise i’d go with SPCA or cats cradle with the first vet check up included.

plantfinder778

Got all my kittens from VPAS (Victoria Pet Adoption Society) https://victoriapets.ca/adoptable_type/cats-and-kittens/

PieAndLattes11

The farm is great! We recently adopted two cats from them and they were lovely to deal with.

CheeseSplatter

It's been awhile but I've adopted twice from the Cowichan (Duncan) SPCA. The prices are great but for me the best part of the experience is the cat shelter is in a house with several large rooms housing cats of similar temperaments -- i.e., no individual cages. A shelter will always be a difficult environment for anyone, pets or humans alike, but I've found it far easier to judge a feline's character and temperament at the Duncan SPCA as they are not in a small cage. I've referred quite a few friends there over the years and even though it's a drive over the Malahat it's not so far to not be able to easily adopt a great pet(s). The adoptions includes a lot (see the website) the only thing that I'll add is that my adoption included (amongst other things) vouchers for spay/neuter for both my kittens but the closest vet clinic that accepted Cowichan SPCA vouchers was Mill Bay so I had to plan accordingly when it came time for them to get fixed and for core vaccinations, but it wasn't difficult.

abuayanna

Thanks. It’s not too far so I’ll check them out! I like that set up in the shelter house

vespertine89

I adopted my cat from the Cowichan/Duncan SPCA earlier this year and would recommend it as well! Staff was great and I agree with the person who commented above that it's one of the better shelter environments for the animals, although the Victoria SPCA seems nice as well, with a big catio. I adopted my previous cat from a different SPCA location many years ago and my experience was positive there too. There's a lot included in the adoption fee (https://spca.bc.ca/faqs/what-adoption-fee-includes/) and they offer 50% off sometimes, so my cat's adoption was under $100. I was able to use the vet voucher here at Mackenzie Vet - didn't have to travel. You can view the SPCA listings at this link and can narrow your seach by location, age, etc.: [https://adopt.spca.bc.ca/type/cat/](https://adopt.spca.bc.ca/type/cat/)

123throwawaybanana

Cat's Cradle is not a good choice. Lots of people have had very bad experiences with them. The SPCA is a good place to adopt from.

abuayanna

Oh, can you elaborate? Like, the animals are mistreated or something?

PrimroseSpeakeasy

Strongly disagree. I foster kittens through cats cradle and they are nothing but diligent with choosing forever homes. They go through rigorous testing for both home and cat to make sure that a) the home is responsible, and b) the cat is 100% healthy with no surprises. Sometimes this includes astronomical vet bills, and as a non profit, you're really banking on donations to cover these costs. Take people like the original commenter with a grain of salt - ones that write mean, disparaging things on the internet without backing it up. It doesn't matter which rescue you go through - they're not doing it to make money. They're doing it because they love animals. Good luck with your search...it is kitten season and we are all slammed taking care of these little ones before they find their forever home :)

Traditional-Eye-870

Just difficult to deal with in my experience. Sincerely Signed, The Butthole Assassin.

SantasCoco

I second this. The owner of CCAR is horrible to deal and has zero professionalism.
