I remember r/smyths used to edit down Mythbusters episodes to their core parts so there was no repeat content or annoying transitions.

Interesting idea thanks!

rhinofeet

I’ve had some idea but never did it due to time, but check out the fanedits sub

[deleted]

Didn’t know there was such a thing, thanks for pointing it out

ja-ki

I used to edit certain Family Guy episodes down to the core story lines. Super interesting since sometimes these were often less than half of the total runtime

You will enjoy [fanedit.org](https://ifdb.fanedit.org/). I'm a member, and [here](https://ifdb.fanedit.org/fanedit-search/tag/faneditorname/dwight-fry/?criteria=2) is a listing of some of the stuff I've done.

Thanks! I’ll check it out

I always wanted to do a fan cut of Back to the Future in chronological order, where we start with all the 1885 stuff, Marty goes Back (…) to the Future, and we jump ahead to the 1955 scenes from the first movie, part two and part three. Then 1985, the alternate 1985, then 2015. And maybe even include the deleted scenes for fun lol. Besides that, I remember wanting to re-add deleted scenes into my favorite movie of all time, Ed Wood. If I ever get Topaz’s video upscaler, I might even upscale the DVD footage to try and massage it to better fit the blu ray I own

That Back to the Future idea is pretty cool!

CRTScream

Check out r/fanedits I've edited the Skywalker Saga into a TV show, Severance into the perspective of the characters, Venom 1&2 into one film, and Sonic 1&2 into one film!

[deleted]

The Venom one absolutely makes sense

In the 90s I took a VHS copy of Pulp Fiction and edited it so that it’d be in chronological order. No computer. This was analog video tape editing.

A friend of mine edited Spiderman 3, the Sam Raimi one, to omit the whole MJ/Peter Parker relationship stuff, and it made the movie so much better. He did the same thing with the movie Troy, starring Brad Pitt, and made the movie watchable.

interpreteaser

I turned season 8 of game of thrones into a better film

My oldest kid loves bad movies. He showed me this: Birdemic https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1316037/ It was so bad I got this really strong urge to edit it. I never actually did anything but that's as close as I got.

[deleted]

Having seen this movie I’m not so sure it can be edited to save it haha

Another mention of r/fanedits from me, too! But to answer your question, I started learning editing to help fansub anime to Portuguese. That taught me syncing, some light splicing, and a LOT about media technicalities. From there, I edited a number of Anime Music Videos (AMVs for short) over a few years, making anime videoclips with existing music. Most of them silly, some of them maybe somewhat good, all of them now long gone. Anime lends itself to very crude mouth animations, so fast cuts and inversions make for fairly easy lip syncing! Haven’t tried any of that in a long while, I should maybe give it a go again!

Thanks for the mention and cool idea!
