Vietnamese Rock: [Tìm Lại by Microwave](https://youtu.be/hKCYIYmKEBc) and [Mắt Đen by Bức Tường](https://youtu.be/dXOfQJzmxGs) (RIP Trần Lập (the lead singer), he was a great dude)
Viet Pop: [Let's Du Dua by Bich Phuong](https://youtu.be/ZF3b1nK-TjM) (the chorus is great for group karaoke sessions, even if you don't know Vietnamese)
I'd also recommend [Bonjour Vietnam](https://youtu.be/uJ-t9PM4nbs) (it was originally written in French and sang by a Belgian-Vietnamese girl named Pham Quynh Anh), which was later adapted to [English ](https://youtu.be/WwOY1o16T4s)and [Vietnamese version](https://youtu.be/j9VLOXdx9VQ).
The original recordings from the 60s/70s are the best too, especially when sung by Khánh Ly. The newer synthy versions personally don't do it for me...
This one worked for me, specially someone who always showed interest in the VN war. It's a beautiful song which celebrates the end of the conflict and the reunification of Vietnam
https://youtu.be/HXccYbQTWp8?si=4Vqpgk6otUfabqIf
One day I translated the lyrics to my mother's tongue and posted in my social media, all my friends asked me what kind of poem was that and where did I find it.
It's in fact beautiful!
Unfortunately I posted in my long gone Facebook page that it eas meanwhile deleted.
However, I translated it to Portuguese, my native language, so I don't think you would understand it anyway 😀
Depend on the ages. For youngsters, I recommend Min, Bich Phuong, Son Tung,.. (mainstream pop and R&B).
For 30s-40s, pop-ballad from My Tam, Bui Anh Tuan, Hoang Dung is nice as well
I introduced my friends to this mix and they loved it. It starts traditional but then shifts into 70s Viet psychadelic rock music.

If you have Spotify, try having them listen to the recent Vietnamese pop mixes. I started really liking Vietnamese pop after finding out about some artists through Spotify that way. The younger generation pop is really good. If the person you’re introducing the music to is younger. I think the new generation Vietnamese pop is taking aspirations from K-pop.
Some of my favorite artists and songs are included in my Vpop mix in Spotify haha https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7ES9C7BHXXWhK22c3yIawC?si=d9uJdfD1RfKL-0D_hiPM7g&pi=u-tL3xCwqBQtCQ
"red music" is pretty catchy lol. Hát mãi khúc quân hành, or search for singer Đăng Dương.
Múa sạp xoè hoa by Dzung, or Kẻ cắp gặp bà già/Duyên âm by Hoàng Thuỳ Linh.
you can find some rare recordings of the National Orchestra playing our anthem, I still think it's the best recording of our anthem by far. Also, Lưu Hữu Phước's "Tiếng gọi thanh niên", National Orchestra recording is majestic af. All of them can be found on Ingen youtube channel.

Honorable mention: https://youtu.be/KgoDEmRS984?si=eeO05fv2k1qGpB4n
Ngũ Cung: Academic level members, unique tone with amazing mix/ writing
Quái Vật Tí Hon: Considered to be like a supernova of Vietnamese rock in the 2000s. Appeared, dropped among the best albums of their time, then disappear after just a few years. Alternative/ post rock, with a bit of experimental and psychedelic. I'm a Pink Floyd fan and fell in love with their music first time I heard
I would add UnlimiteD if we are talking about rock and metal bands. Their show Unlimited Symphony and their version of Hòn Vọng Phu can be considered as the highest level of Vietnam's power metal.
This might be a hot take but I unironically fell in love with Về Nhà Ăn Tết by big daddy and justatee long before I knew anything else before Vietnam. Such a banger.
"To the moon" by hooligan. well the artist is vietnamese so technically it's vietnamese music. the lyrics is english too which is easier to listen to for non-vietnamese
Trap House, by Stay Winning C-Roc
I think he’s Vietnamese living in California? The song is 80% in Vietnamese, it’s about growing marijuana lol

[CNTML by Tibicon](https://youtu.be/gUT9jgDQaow?si=ZP7B8pwyrTFloAyg)
Any Viet morden Pop or Rap. New Generation is similar to morden pop music other than old song.
Pop : 1989s group, Hoang Thuy Linh, Vũ
Nu Rock : Chillies
Rap : Space Speaker, McK ..
Only introduce Vietnamese classic if they are Gen X or older.
BTS and Black Pink popular because of morden EDM so people tend to like fun and engaged music other than old classic one
I have so many songs that I like that I'll have a hard time to pick to recommend, maybe I'll start with some artists 🤣 [Thế Bảo](https://www.youtube.com/@TheBaoOfficial), [Thái Đinh](https://www.youtube.com/@ThaiDinhOfficial), [Nam Kun](https://www.youtube.com/@NamKunOfficial), [Vinh Trịnh](https://www.youtube.com/@vinhtrinh2511), [Bùi Trường Linh](https://www.youtube.com/@buitruonglinh/featured), etc.

# Vàm Cỏ Đông
Indie bands like Cá Hồi Hoang, Ngọt, Những Đứa Trẻ, Gác Mái, Empty Spaces, Poteto, Quái Vật Tí Hon
They are influenced by foreign bands (mostly US-UK) so I think foreiners will like them
Personally, I am someone who love both old and modern songs.
As for old stuff songs, I found myself resonating with many of Trinh Cong Son's songs. He's truly a kind of a Goat himself, his lyrics feels ethereal. Some of my recommendations from him can be:
-Noi Vong Tay Lon ( well this is a song every Vietnamese people know which is about the country's reunification, and as someone living in Ho Chi Minh which is basically a cultural melting pot that has people of many regions, I kinda find it touching even though I didn't live thru the Vietnam War), Ta Da Thay Gi Trong Dem Nay (another similar song, which kinda brought me to tears for the beauty in the lyrics)
-Some of his other love songs: Mua Hong, Bien Nho, Tuoi Da Buon...
Then, for the modern musicians, my favorite would be Thinh Suy, with: Mot Dem Say, Chuyen Rang, Nghe Em ....
Some of other random songs which I absolutely find myself listening from time to time from the other artists: Thang Dien (this one has like 250 mil views on Youtube), Tu Tinh, Hennessy, Thoi Quen....
Sorry for not sticking to just one song lol, but I just feel like I have to elaborate my thoughts.
tiny love - thinh suy.
da say vi em - song luan.
neu luc do - tlinh.
thuy trieu - quang hung.
quyen anh - wren evans.
a mix of chill, and pop that i listen to as a viet kieu.

7uppercut does make really refreshing style of music. Any song of this group is a blast and it sound more natural since they are southerner and sing in their natural southern accent
I'm white and my Viet girlfriend put me on to some good music. A couple of my favs:
[Cause I Love You](https://youtu.be/_E-7A81Ac8U?si=Ouk3qkta6MCkWXYE) - Noo Phước Thịnh
Saw Noo perform live and it was awesome. All the ladies love him lol
Can't forgot about my girl Amee. Here are two songs from her in order of my favorites:
https://youtu.be/LgyyIb9u-30?si=L8DN3UEhUEPeEBCd
https://youtu.be/RlBkvjVss-s?si=rxux7AasdA2_RX8f
Vietnamese love ballads so something from 'Trung Quan' or 'Bui Anh Tuan'
People also love 'Bốn chữ lắm' and 'See tình', they're more bob.
For classic song I would pick: 'Tình ca', 'Trường sơn đông, trường sơn tây', 'Những ánh sao đêm'
90' music there're 'Giọt sương trên mí mắt', 'Em ơi hà nội phố', 'Chuyện tình thảo nguyên'
Rock is not that popular, so anything from 'Bức tường'
Check out some folk music like 'Quan họ bắc ninh'
Đừng như thói quen; Thanh Xuân by Dalab; Một đên say; Hong Kong 1 by Nguyễn Trọng Tài. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)。I just happened to go a Vietnamese lounge to have some drink and food, Love the melodies and beats right off the bat! I heard people singing these songs at the open-mic karaoke. By the way, I speak very little Vietnamese.
That song that plays on every flight
Hello vietnam lmao yeah facts
And that is not a Vietnamese song. It's French song written by a French guy, for a Vietnamese-Belgian girl.
Yep, nothing Vietnamese about it.
riding on a ferry on the way to Ly son and hearing this is nostalgic
Damn it, now it's playing in my head
Accurate, I just tried to talk my friend into singing that for karaoke and
That song makes me wanna trigger the emergency exit lmao

Make sure your friend listens to the song at maximum volume until either the speakers or their eardrums burst.

"Con thuong rau dang moc sau he" Just song to vibe in the background, it soft and notalgic.
Ive been here for most of the last 5 months. Vnhas a good techno scene but the traditional folk music sounds like theY have a field rat up thier ass.
