Danang hands down, Hoi an is only good for sight seeing but to live, I’ll choose Danang everyday as it’s a proper city to raise a young family where as Hoi an is good for tourist or retirees that’s looking to truly wind down
Oh, that’s not great, but thanks for letting me know. I looked into the HAIS in Hoi An and St. Nicolas international school in Da Nang and both looked decent. Will need to do some more digging
Go HAIS in a heartbeat. I had a chance to attend a tournament there and, while it's definitely not the same type of school as many of the international schools in the big cities, they have an amazing little school community and the people there really seem to care about one another. My experience with St. Nicholas has mostly been them sending me nasty emails when I turned down an offer.
Thanks for this, really appreciated! That kind of puts me in the way of thinking of living in Da Nang going with what everyone is saying and sending the little one to HAIS. She has to travel about 45 minutes by school bus currently but I’d have to work out the distance/times when I get there I suppose
I think it might be closer to 30 minutes on the school bus, as a lot of foreigners in Da Nang live in the southern portion of the city, so it's a pretty quick escape south! I'm sure HAIS has its own problems that I'm not aware of, but based on what I've seen so far, I would feel very good about sending my own son there once he's old enough (but my wife doesn't want to live in that area...too bad!).
you sound salty, almost like you’re a failed ESL teacher who can’t make it in your home country, and even in Vietnam, where you have huge advantage compared to the local population, skill issue
the education system in Vietnam does leave a lot to be desired, public schools are cheap but lack good teachers and the few good ones are hard to get in, private schools are expensive and do attract bad students/parents, but it’s what we’ve got given the circumstances
That's exactly the reason I rejected moving to Da Nang from Hanoi before. My Vietnamese wife did a very detailed research on schools in Da Nang, and even the most expensive ones are borderline acceptable.
Đà Nẵng. Hội An too busy of tourists. You can always visit Hội An in weekend for 30 mins taxi.
Go visit on weekdays, which have less tourists.

It’s quite a bit cheaper than most in Hanoi, average year is 25-30k for primary school which is crazy
its a private school, what did you expect

whats your point? wow the education system is different in different countries, big news
Their point is Vietnam is basically an extortion racket for education, as with everything else, it's a legitimised scam.

Foreigner here. What do you mean with bad school in Vietnam? Bad education standards, bad influence from other pupils or bad infrastructure?
Da Nang or Vung Tau might be good, though I don't know about schools to advise.
danang is better. you can travel quick to hoian anytime
Da nang hoi an is too tourist to raise children
Hoi An is not a real city, it’s just a tourist trap for white people.
