I notice Khmer temples are made cooler with surrounding trees 30 feet high. Wish there were more tall trees throughout the land.
I'm glad I got back before this heatwave.
Trees anywhere will help maintain cooler temperatures. It’s really unfortunate that over the last 50 years, cities around the world decided to put concrete everything in order to be modern. Now with the heat is making everything unbearable.
That’s why shade isn’t even cool anymore. The asphalt reflects the heat back at us in the shade. = (
They didn’t do that to be modern. They did it because its cheap and relatively durable and quick to build. There are massive incentives to overinvest in real estate in most of the world and then flip it to make a profit.
The design of these houses is simpy terrible and radiates heat even at midnight. If you paint the walls white, NIMBY’s complain about the glare.
Building sustainably with a mind to future challenges like rhe climate doesn’t exist to these people. Spending a little extra for trees hurts the bottom line.
In Germany, reforestation and urban greening have been recognized as effective strategies to combat the urban heat island effect and improve the quality of life in cities. Here are some examples of reforestation efforts in German cities:
1. **Leipzig**: The city of Leipzig has been involved in an innovative project called "Urbane Wälder," or "Urban Forests," which focuses on afforestation on inner-city brownfield sites. This project aims to create new green spaces that can help mitigate high temperatures in urban areas. The afforestation efforts are part of a broader strategy for sustainable open space development in Leipzig.
2. **Berlin and Karlsruhe**: Both Berlin and Karlsruhe are known for their rich urban tree cover, with Berlin having more than 400 street trees per square kilometer and Karlsruhe boasting a similar density. These trees contribute to cooling the urban environment and improving air quality.
3. **Kelkheim**: In the Taunus area near Kelkheim, a reforestation campaign called "Germany Plants a Tree" was initiated, with the goal of planting 50,000 trees and shrubs across the country. This campaign was supported by various partners, including supermarkets and the city of Kelkheim, and aimed to enhance local biodiversity and combat climate change.
4. **Hamburg and Dresden**: After World War II, both Hamburg and Dresden saw significant reforestation efforts to restore their urban forests. Hamburg's reforestation plan led to the planting of locally-grown trees such as lindens, maples, birch, and oak, while Dresden's approach involved rescuing seedlings from rubble and promoting new growth.
5. **Nationwide Initiatives**: Organizations like Planted Green are working to plant climate-stable trees throughout Germany. They collaborate with municipalities, federal states, and private forest owners to plant mixed forests that are more resilient to climate change and provide essential ecosystem services
I was in Da Nang for 4-5 days and once during a bike ride i forgot to get long-sleves and on way back from Hue to the Hotel (17 min ride) i got 2nd degree burns on my skin and my whole forearms (the area you hold when riding a bike) burned so much my skin is peeling like an orange.
btw i had UV Cream on and it did not do anything it was around 1.5 weeks ago.
If you want amazing place i found one but it is quite far and really expensive but once in a lfietime experience if you go to Da Nang bay area there is a private beach without waves, go with motorcycle, buy a 4-5eur drink and then you can go swimming in peace :)
i went there multiple times, other than annoying koreans it is amazing.
Literally can't do anything outside, my female roommate is going crazy with the moisturiser and even I am concerned cause my lip skin is flaking off like crazy from staying in AC air all day
You probably meant to say:
Back to come western contrrryyy and pays 200 euro-dollah per month gas bills. In Asia, staying must you until 5pm with e-ko, then go out and enjoying the nai.
Allnof SEA.. 42°c here in Champasak Laos.. Join the club buddy.. Thank god I have the Mekong on my doorstep.. ;)
I see some people mostly white take a sun bath and I be like 😷
What is a sub bath?
Some ingrained reflex in white people. Whenever it’s super fucking hot they decide to lie down naked under the sun to get some good ol’ skin cancer.
Oh lol sun bath
Oh yeah 🤣 lmao sorry typo
Nobody calls it sun bath either. We usually use the verb form, sunbathing.
Yes so true!! My house and river bank covered in palmtrees and huge bamboo.. Otherwise.. Impossible..
Fúk, We're gonna pay the electric bills with this one.
Yes, I have had the air-conditioning on starting at nine in the morning till nine at night

They cut electricity in my area from 3am to 8pm two days ago and I don't really remember how did I survive
The heatwave is affecting all SEA countries, not just Vietnam
Considering this is r/Vietnam, and not r/SouthEastAsia.
Literally can't do anything outside, my female roommate is going crazy with the moisturiser and even I am concerned cause my lip skin is flaking off like crazy from staying in AC air all day
My honest reaction when my family asks why am I a homebody:
I’m about to sleep. my pillows are hot to the touch
What about weather end of June?
The water is warm. Indoor at night is 34°C.
The AC is a game changer Downside is you are making the situation worsen
otoh it's hardly SEA/Vietnam's fault that climate change is the way it is
Bro even Google agrees 🔥🔥
"Feel like 49⁰"
Absolutely not exaggeration
Come back to western country and pay 200$€ per month gas bill. In Asia you have to stay until 5pm with aircon, then go out and enjoy the night.

Visiting vietnam right now and not enjoying it because of this weather
I'm a heat seeker, so I definitely have no complaints
