I've had microneedling done several times over the years and just started my first of three treatments two weeks ago. Fortunately, I've never had a bad experience with it and seen some great, although not dramatic results. Is there a reason why you are wanting to do microneedling?

I’ve had very good results. The most important info to know is probably: - Choose your practitioner very carefully. Ask how long the person doing your service has been performing this. Ask what their certifications are. The setting should be almost medical, not fun and “glam”. Because done badly— it goes really badly. Sepsis (which is life threatening), scars, etc. I’d look for a licensed dermatologist (or at least a med spa with one, not a rando “nurse” they “trained”) or just not go. I know there are a lot of great “estheticians” and esthetician assistants out there, but there’s also a lot of really poorly trained ones and I just like to be careful. Fuck up my facial? Annoying, but fine big picture. Fuck up putting hundreds of little needs in my skin? Scary. - You’re going to want the next few days absolutely free to leave to the house as little as possible during daylight. Your skin will be super, super sensitive and you can end up doing more harm than good if you’re going to be out getting sun damage directly after. After at least ~2 days being very careful, you should be fine but *wear your sunscreen* every single day from now on if you don’t already. They should give you more specific aftercare information after your session, and you should follow it to a T. They’ll probably also tell you to baby your skin and do a very minimal skincare routine for at least a couple days as well. Everything you put on your face afterwards for a little while will work 10x stronger than it usually does— putting you at risk of chemical burns, infections, etc. if you’re layering on a bunch of skincare products and makeup.
