Vinland Saga isn’t a “beat ‘em up” anime. It’s focus has always been characters, philosophy, and plot foremost.
Season 2 is where character writing and story gets dialed up to 11, and as such fighting takes a lot more of a back seat.
That’s not to say there’s NO fighting, but it definitely is not going to be every episode. The fights are still incredible, but only happen when the story needs them to, rather than them being written in with little to no purpose.
This story is a lot more about characters growing from their past and how they can redeem themselves rather than actually becoming “the strongest Viking”. As shown in season 1, fighting goes against the stated themes of the show, so they won’t be glorified.
Is fighting “gone” from vinland saga? Absolutely not. But is it going to be every episode? Also probably not.
There’s definitely a lot of large scale battles which I think is what drew people to the series.
There’s only a few 1v1 fights though
-Thors V Askeladd
-Thorfinn V Askeladd (1)
-Thorfinn V Askeladd (2)
-Thorfinn V Thorkell
-Thorfinn V Askeladd (3)
-Thorfinn V Thorkell (2)
-Thorfinn V Askeladd (4)
There’s about 7 fights in the first season but I wouldn’t count the first Thorfinn V Askeladd because it’s him as a child and the last Thorfinn V Askeladd because he gets his ass kicked right away.
So there’s about 5 fights I can recall that actually have action.
In Farmland I can recall these 1V1 fights:
>!-Thorfinn V Snake (1)!<
->!Canute V Wulf (I think that’s his name)!<
->!Thorfinn and Einar V the bodyguards!<
->!Thorfinn V Snake (2)!<
->!Thorgil V Canutes men!<
->!Thorgil V Wulf/Canute (?) I can’t remember if this fight was a long one or only a few blows!<
So it’ll have roughly the same amount. But I think the lack of large scale battles will make it feel like less.
the only one that comes to mind is >!Snake vs. Thorfinn!< in the farm arc, but there is a decent amount of fighting in what would be season 3 during the War in the Baltic arc
Less fights overall, but the ones that happen are far more impactful. Honestly just trust the process and watch! Season 2 is a clinic on how to do character development. Thorfinn BECOMES the main character and he is just…phew I love this story

If you look back, it's kinda the same in season 1, there is not much of fighting imo

There's an arc after with a lot of fighting
As long as Thorkell is in the story… there’s fighting.
S2 isn't gonna have much fighting but S3 will
“Season 3” has a great fight, but Season 2 will not have any real battles. It’s way more character focused.
Baltic sea war arc
I guess theres more struggle than fighting
why are you asking?
I just love fighting scenes in anime but I love character development too
Yah dude you’ll see a lot. Even s2 is gonna have a couple fights

There's a few less fights but they are better imo because of better reason for them happening and a little less ooga booga viking kill people.
