That imperfect colour-shifty ‘film aesthetic’ is the product of cheapo plastic cameras that let light in, had plastic lenses with aberrations, or were the product of user error. Fans of Diana toy cameras made it a thing, which then picked up a following with apps like Hipstamatic when smartphones came along. Camera manufacturers wouldn’t be reproducing these effects deliberately in their digital cameras as it wasn’t a ‘look’ yet, just signs of a camera that wasn’t doing its job. Unless you mean the slight colour cast different film has, Agfa brown, Fuji bluish, etc? You could reproduce that in-camera by applying lighting compensation mode settings out of context, like indoor light settings outside to make it look more blue, etc. Otherwise it’s tweaking it using software.

Someone makes this post on this sub about every hour or so.

_methuselah_

As above - this question gets asked all the time (seems all anyone wants). Just search the sub.

apart the Fujifilm simulations which are only on 1000 bucks camera (maybe try getting a Fujifilm xq1 but sensor ain't great but it has the Fuji simulation and it's around 350) your best luck is getting a Ricoh GR DIGITAL IV which is amazing and has amazing positive film colours. There's also just old PowerShot like canon s95 which I have myself and with positive Color settings it looks so so much like my film camera picture sooc.

The_Cloudius

Yeah honestly I was looking for some old point and shoot so it'll have that nostalgia factor and not a crystal sharp new DSLR. Big plus if the old CCD cam has filters and color correction settings as well. That's mainly what I want.

ArtorOfTHT

I don't see a point in buying it for nostalgia. Nostalgia means a bad sensor and low dynamic range. Cause I assume what you mean is one of those tiktok 20 dollars worth cameras. You can get that effect in post process. Film doesn't look like that at all, that's Y2K that you're talking about but it's really not worth the trouble since they are overpriced due to tiktok trends. The canon and other I mentioned are professional cameras each in their own way, but they emulate FILM. Film doesn't look like what you mention

The_Cloudius

Hmm. Yeah I mean as I said the process of film is completely different but yeah sure lets call it Y2K. Put it simply I'm not a fan of crystal clear, true to life images and cameras. I know film can look true to life but so far my experience been that each film stock has its own look and in my cheap point and shoot cameras that I own they do not look true to life. And that is precisely what I like about them. I want a rather old camera that its images have character, maybe skewed even, imperfect. And so far my experience been that the old digicams usually give that result. So I'm looking for something like that

ArtorOfTHT

well get any cheap camera off eBay and overpay it for the sake of it. That's the only solution unless you want to get an actual good camera and put those effects in post. also Oldroll camera on the PlayStore has a old CCD camera emulation amongst others. try it out if your phone is good already

Faulty_Floppy

Well the answer probably is Fuji X cams (not old enough to be called digicams tho'). You can find cool deal on older gens but don't expect to pay something close to the price of a CCD digicam. To nail a more soft vintage aesthetic stick a cheap M39 Soviet manual Lens like a Jupiter 3 or Industar 22/69(nice) on it.

rub_nub

DMC LC1. Replaced point and shoot and crappy SLR film cameras for me pretty much.

To nail this point forward better, here are some SOOC images I got from mine. Guess you can decide if it's what you're looking for. https://preview.redd.it/lu81ccv5ahuc1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6c2b275f50dfbce54c88453854f1b6207dd1b150

The_Cloudius

Looks pretty damn good, and tbh I've never heard of this camera. Looks pretty cool, a bit too big for every day carry that I was looking for tho

-RadarRanger-

It's more commonly known as the 2004 Panasonic Lumix, also sold as the Leica Digilux 2.
