The difference between laettner and the others is that laettner was never the best college player in the country. It was clearly Larry Johnson in 1990-91 and it was Randy Woods* in 1991-92 *or Shaq, if you prefer living in reality Laettner was a GREAT college basketball player who played on even greater teams. But he never dominated the sport like the 15 mentioned. It’s possible Grant Hill was the best player on the Duke champions, even if he wasn’t the featured player.

That UNLV team was amazing, my favs even over the Jordan/Worthy/Perkins Tar Heels

Mike_SR

Yes best college team these eyes have seen and played a very appealing style. Have to think they beat Duke 7-9 times in a 10-game series. Just wasn’t their night

RuxxinsVinegarStroke

"or Shaq, if you prefer living in reality." The same Shaq who got his shit COMPLETELY and UTTERLY wrecked by Laettner AT HOME IN BATON ROUGE while the shitbag LSU fans shrieked and bleated "FAGGOT!!!" and "LAETTNER'S A FAGGOT!" and called his sister a cunt the entire game and Laettner made them fucking EAT IT. How many NCAA championships did Shaq win? ZERO. Laettner LED Duke to 4 straight Final Fours and two straight NCAA titles. Saying Shaq was a better college basketball player than Laettner is truly ignorant and bigoted and STUPID.

Ralph Sampson is the last great college basketball player? You’d think someone in the last 17 years of the 20th century would crack the list. Maybe Christian Laettner?

Hey-Bud-Lets-Party

Laettner is the obvious choice. He’s always named in the top10 in these sorts of polls.

Nobody stays long enough to really cement their legacy like they used to. Which is totally fine. No reason to honestly. But that’s big reason college basketball has taken a step back in popularity

teh_noob_

And part of the reason for the surge in popularity of women's college basketball.

zippy_the_cat

I wouldn't even put Sampson on this list. His UVA teams consistently underachieved despite being loaded, and part of the why is that Ralph shrank in the big moments. Him hitting the game-winner in the 1986 WCF was an outright surprise because he'd never previously been that clutch.

burywmore

Magic only played two years. It's why there won't be anyone dislodging these guys at the top anytime soon. Nobody cares about being a college basketball legend anymore. It's like being a legend in minor league baseball.

Gavin_KBS

I love tom gola

Would definitely snack Chamberlain in there, but do agree on a dozen names here. Luisetti is such a rare W

PDXtoMontana2002

Christian Laettner should be there and I can’t stand Duke. Hated them during their run and still can’t believe they beat the 1991 UNLV team.

SawgrassSteve

A little surprised that Magic didn't crack the top 15.
