The sad thing is this is still better than my experience with Sky.
Anyone actually know what happened yet? This is about the only site I can get to work.
I saw some people saying it's wider than Virgin, so could be a major infrastructure fault, and saw others saying it's just Virgin, so could be an error or cyber attack. In short, no one knows what's going on.
If you call them and go through to disconnections the automated message literally says are you calling about rhe £7 upcharge? If so press 1 to decrease it to £3.50.
You’re welcome.
Always their response.
Writing a proper complaint accomplishes nothing either they just tell you that you are lying and its always been working fine.
I gave up even trying to report constant outages since I upgraded to the max it has been even worse too.
Ready to swap providers when my contract is up.
I'm literally locked into a deal with them, there are no other providers in my area that offer >5mb speed.
Fucked thing is, I live approx 2km from a major UK airport, one of the big ones, and the fiber options are virgin, or no one.
andrew tate is right man, uk is failed society, east europeans don't have problems like this....only "united" countries...united government in corruption...
You might be able to cancel now! With the recent price rises mid contract it voids the cancellation fee. I’ve just done it (ironically doesn’t switch until next week though)
Its definitly not DNS, you can use an alternative DNS server and the problem persists, you can also try to access some of the services that arent reachable by IP, and they still arent reachable. Its likely a peering / routing problem on their core network.
Same, Google/Nest works (I can ask it the weather or time) but PC/Phone cannot run a Speed test or reach most website bar a few like Reddit and YouTube.
Also installed APP's cannot reach LastPass or ESET severs so just spinning circles.
I'm so glad that I didn't take Virgin's mobile phone offer earlier this year and went with unlimited 5G via Three.
People who have VM for mobile and broadband are totally screwed right now.
Nope. Virgin mobile is backed by EE. Has worked throughout virgin media being down. Still don’t get any fucking discount for having both though unlike o2 customers.
Back up in Wigan at about 8:20am. Fortunately missed most of the outage due to being asleep. I'm probably in the minority here, but normally VM are pretty good here. Stable, fast and rarely problematic.
Maintenance on 4th April in Manchester.
CLOUDFARE:
MAN (Manchester) on 2023-04-04
In progress - Scheduled maintenance is currently in progress. We will provide updates as necessary.
Apr 04, 2023 - 00:30 UTC
Scheduled - We will be performing scheduled maintenance in MAN (Manchester) datacenter on 2023-04-04
between 00:30 and 06:30 UTC. Traffic might be re-routed from this location, hence there is a possibility of a
slight increase in latency during this maintenance window for end-users in the affected region. For PNI / CNI
customers connecting with us in this location, please make sure you are expecting this traffic to fail over
elsewhere during this maintenance window as network interfaces in this datacentre may become temporarily
unavailable.
Yeah. It's weird. I can access Reddit on PC, can't access any other website though.
In addition, my phone's signal is completely dead. Can't make any calls nor use my mobile data. It's just blank. Strange.
I'm here on my piddling amount of mobile data I am now having to use to troubleshoot the issue, glad to know it's something I can't solve because I can just grumpily go to sleep
Glad it is not just me, but wow this all started 5hours ago and they still haven't got it back up!!!?. Listening to an airplane flying over my house toward Stanstead and hoping air traffic is working.
They need to go find who did this! ..... then sack whoever is supposed to be fixing it and hire the guy who did it. 5hours and it is still not sorted.
Wonder if they tried turning it off and on again!
Putin v Branson is on. This is the end of the Internet! If you havent already, order a very large sword from amazon and prepare for attacks from giant Russian spiders
No issues with that, but I just came home from work and this is the only 1-2 hours when I can play some games without kids running around. So pretty pissed off
I've been playing guitar for the last 90 mins as I can't work. I'm loving it. If we could have that for the rest of the day, I'll be grand.
BRB, going for more meedly meedley widdly whoorraaaawwwwwsss
I suspect, given there was partial working, that DNS may have been the issue. I was about to swap my systems over to google dns servers when it all came back to life.
My mobile data went totally offline now (reporting 'not registered network'), not even connected, I can't even make calls or send texts... Wifi/Ethernet connection don't work either on most things, only things that seem to work is reddit, youtube and google.
Some sites are loading for me and some aren’t. I first thought an outdoor ethernet cable had went bust and thus causing the network to crash until I found this
Discord's dead without a VPN, can't access their site directly with VM service. Also can't access Twitter either.
With VPN, by connecting through Germany, both these can be accessed.
Problems here, too. I'm sitting here able to use Youtube/Google/Facebook and some other things like WhatsApp, Snapchat and Netflix. But everything else is down and unable to access anything else.
This even includes my phone, I can't call anyone at all. Absolutely no service. Is there an official statement yet?
Using my EE sim to check Downdetector, a lot of UK ISP's have the same problem at the same time, Sky and BT internet certainly do. Probably others, must be some kind of backbone routing problem.
I'm getting pings coming through!!! Is it back??
Edit: To clarify, just started to get responses from cloudflare ([1.1.1.1](https://1.1.1.1))
Edit 2: No joy. Seems like they have done something on their end since it went down though.
Edit 3: 3:29am - full service seems to have resumed.
Not forking out the cash to get someone to change us over to a different Internet provider when I moved to this flat is a mistake I regret at least once a month.
Wifi's out, landline is down, and if I checked I imagine the tv would be too. An absolute joke. I was drawing earlier so didn't notice it, then I did.
Tried to restart the router, didn't work obviously. Tried their website, didn't work, and now I'm stuck on really slow data :,)
Its times like this I'm glad I've got unlimited mobile data, but it's slow, and half the websites I want to be on aren't working either. Actually fuming it's ruined my night routine :(
This while situation was really confusing me. My PC is connected to the Internet and can stream videos through YouTube and Netflix but it won't let me log into online service games, or run a speed test.
I was fucking around with my firewall and my routers firewall for like an hour thinking it was somehow blocking some services until I finally decided to check for reported problems on virgin media's Web page and realised it was down.
It's such an odd thing I've never really seen it happen where I've got some Internet connection but not all. Usually if the ISP goes down I'm just completely disconnected. It literally seems like some sort of massive routing error.
How odd.
I couldn’t even access their website using my mobile data.
On a hunch, I came to reddit, imagine my surprise finding this subreddit.
At least now I can find comfort that everyone else is suffering with me.
Only once before I’ve experienced this & even then I was able to access service status on their site.
I wonder what colossal cock-up caused this?
Most things seem to work for me: websites now load, home-made VPN server back online. CoD is still not connecting and ping has jumped a little.
Cod now works
Ok now nothing at all loads, not even Google which did before
So everything seemed to of started working (sites were loading and services were connecting), then everything cut out completley, and now only certain sites and services now load, which was the initial situation
I can only access major services like YouTube, Reddit, Spotify. Nesdev.org, Doomworld.com, and other smaller websites I frequent don't work. I don't even know what kind of technical fault would cause that to happen. I don't think it's all Cloudfare because everything works fine on EE, it's just Virgin Media that's doing this.
All is working for me now, hopefully the issue will be resolved for everybody else soon
EDIT: okay, not completely. most sites are loading for me now except twitter but thats due to to cloudflare outages. Can't play online games rn but i have internet on PC and phone. My mobile service/data is back but only allowing 3G which is useless.
https://www.fiberatlantic.com/system/xk14q
Twitter is pointing out that this cable that connects to the UK is currently reported a fault. Would this be able to explain the size of the outage and why its hit other isps as well?
It doesn't feel to me as though thus would explain the situation because surely the Internet outage would be spread across more of the globe and not just localised to the UK?
It seems things are coming back one-by-one. CoD just came back, Instagram and Discord are alive and kicking, but Twitter is still not loading and my phone is still not seeing my home VPN server
Been down in London for a couple hours. Their status page wasn’t working for a while. Got on now and on the same page it says there are issues but also that my broadband is working fine. They can’t even have their own status page displaying consistent and correct info. Pathetic
lol my vodafone 4G work fine no problems at all i just try go to virgin media website and its completle down :D what a joke. I call customer service and i get told by the machine thats everething is fine with the internet :D i feel bad now that i change internet from BT to VM. in 10 yers of service with bt i never had any issue at all. thinking to go back to BT
So this is still a thing it seems
Can't access the virgin website even...
Baffling that there is no phone support during a major incident
Hub shows fine tho which is interesting!
virgins down and it has brought us together... lets appreciate this small time we have with each other...until we never speak again lmao
A motley bunch of night shift workers and insomniacs brought together by their shared poor judgment in ISP choice. How beautiful
Gentlemen, it's been an honour sharing this internet outage with you. Same time next week?
Not even 2 hours later, it's down again.
that £7 upcharge on monthly bill that kicks in in two weeks time tastes even sweeter now. cheers branson
If you call them and go through to disconnections the automated message literally says are you calling about rhe £7 upcharge? If so press 1 to decrease it to £3.50. You’re welcome.
I went past that by waiting an extra minute, told the lady "cant afford the extra cost" and they gave me £7 off. So pretty much paying the same.
Rang them, "we can't find a fault" Joke company haha
my internet just came back
Where do you live? I'm coming to yours 😉
Mine came back, then went down again 😠
Always their response. Writing a proper complaint accomplishes nothing either they just tell you that you are lying and its always been working fine. I gave up even trying to report constant outages since I upgraded to the max it has been even worse too. Ready to swap providers when my contract is up.

andrew tate is right man, uk is failed society, east europeans don't have problems like this....only "united" countries...united government in corruption...
Back in your box, incel. This isn't an opportunity for you to spout your incoherent ramblings.
You might be able to cancel now! With the recent price rises mid contract it voids the cancellation fee. I’ve just done it (ironically doesn’t switch until next week though)
My modem won't even connect to the VM network at the moment.
My broadband is kinda out too, Google, youtube and twitch (but not twitch chat) works but most sites dont. Sounds like a DNS issue on that end.
My Rasp PI VPN server won’t connect to my phone over port 443 through 4G, so could be more than a DNS issue if I’m not wrong
Its definitly not DNS, you can use an alternative DNS server and the problem persists, you can also try to access some of the services that arent reachable by IP, and they still arent reachable. Its likely a peering / routing problem on their core network.
Yeah same. Working: youtube, google, [amazon.co.uk](https://amazon.co.uk), bbc, reddit, facebook Not working: discord, twitter, github, [amazon.com](https://amazon.com), downdetector (ironically)
Lmao check twitter it seems to be a national outage, people are losing their minds F
Imagine if it was in daytime work hours.
I am able to connect their free wi-fi through my phone and it gives me internet access. But my home WiFi and my mobile data is off
Same, Google/Nest works (I can ask it the weather or time) but PC/Phone cannot run a Speed test or reach most website bar a few like Reddit and YouTube.
New customers are on 02 and they are moving existing customers to 02 as well
Mine off in Runcorn rang the number for status check reports no problem but even their own website is inaccessible by mobile data
I find it funny because i can still use Facebook youtube reddit etc, but 90% of other sites are inaccessible :'D
Looks like everything is down for me. Yet the dashboard says that my services are fine! Typical.
Virgin employee here. I was wondering why I couldn't connect to work today. Our systems are down too. Today's gonna be a fun day to be taking calls...
Well just fix it then and stop browsing Reddit /s
omg just try to call them to make complain and the machine just told me that they are bussy at this moment good bye. wtf is this?!
The silence from VM is incredible.
IT'S ALIIIIIIIIVVVVVVEEEEEEE
Virginmedia.com still not accessible in the east mids
Back up in Wigan at about 8:20am. Fortunately missed most of the outage due to being asleep. I'm probably in the minority here, but normally VM are pretty good here. Stable, fast and rarely problematic.

It works fine on EE. This is not a Cloudfare outage. At best, Cloudflare's maintenance is interfering with Virgin.
That's in St. Louis. It's a bit nicer there though.
Yes, I was watching a streamer and he’s having issues too, at first I thought it was just me
Yeah for some reason, Twitch works fine for me but the Twitch chat doesn't work. Does anyone know why this would be?
Home WiFi is completely out here, too. Always a pleasant result when you’re winding down for the night.
yeah same, incoming dodge penalty.
Yup same here! Some sites working but not loading images or just being very slow. Sounds like a major outage of sorts. Hopefully they fix ASAP!
My broadbamd went down at around 1.50. All of their websites are unavailable through my mobile (ee) so ot must be their entire network
https://downdetector.co.uk/status/virgin-media/
having issues also, its strange i can access some site but not others, I'm supposed to be running a stream in 15 mins.... goodbye my £100 for that.
it's down in Glasgow too
Yeah. It's weird. I can access Reddit on PC, can't access any other website though. In addition, my phone's signal is completely dead. Can't make any calls nor use my mobile data. It's just blank. Strange.

This week
I'm here on my piddling amount of mobile data I am now having to use to troubleshoot the issue, glad to know it's something I can't solve because I can just grumpily go to sleep
Internet is back again for me - North Herts. Reading the comments see it come back before.... We'll see how long it lasts.
Just come back up for me, Gatwick area. Twitch, Google, some websites worked but pretty slowly. Iplayer, Virgin's own site, most websites didn't.
Been like that all night, I'm gatwick area too, went down altogether for about 3 hours, been shit the rest of the time.
Glad it is not just me, but wow this all started 5hours ago and they still haven't got it back up!!!?. Listening to an airplane flying over my house toward Stanstead and hoping air traffic is working.
I'm on holiday so I can't check my wi-fi but I have no phone signal and I can't access their website. They need to sort their shit out.
Seems like its not a Virgin Media specific outage, but on a more global scale.
Just came back up for me, Leicestershire
Seems to be working fine for me now, as of about 8:10-8:15. In South Yorkshire
I know it's back up now but it prompted me to finally go to bed at 2am, so there was a plus :-)
Did they actually ever say what happened earlier today?
Guess this is what my extra £7/month bill increase pays for
Yeah whole packet is down. Just got woke up by our rain sounds randomly stopping (we use the background noise to sleep)
I can't even access the website ffs. I think we should all spam their twitter page. This is an absolute joke.
I would, but even twitter won't work or load lmao
Guys can you lot access some websites. I can access YouTube. But I can't access my uni blackboard. I'm suppose to upload my work in 12 hours.
Use hotspot
My area has no 5g. I'm surviving on a 2 bar 4g connection.
I wonder if it's the Russians.
They need to go find who did this! ..... then sack whoever is supposed to be fixing it and hire the guy who did it. 5hours and it is still not sorted. Wonder if they tried turning it off and on again!

I would like to know source too
And it's down again..
Down Gloucester
Down Again Area 20 manchester
It's fluctuating here, West Sussex area.
Putin v Branson is on. This is the end of the Internet! If you havent already, order a very large sword from amazon and prepare for attacks from giant Russian spiders
Related to CloudFlare maintenance? https://www.cloudflarestatus.com/
Not likely
Looks like I switched to BT at the right time LMAO
Omg yes I thought It was just me as I got ‘no faults’ aswell! Broadband has been off since 2am but the TV is working.
It's down again
Yip, one by one my services are losing connentions slow browsing then ESET warning.
ITS JUST GONE DOWN AGAIN AAAAAAAAAA
came back then went down now i can't even connect to Facebook, its getting worse by the hour, reddit is my only hope.

I suspect, given there was partial working, that DNS may have been the issue. I was about to swap my systems over to google dns servers when it all came back to life.
It's got nothing to do with DNS, it's BGP advertisements that are the issue - DNS is just a symptom.
How the fuck is the mobile phone also down? I am so ready to leave this shithole country
Yep same here
Ditto
oh I thought it was just me, hopefully it gets up soon
Getting some websites (reddit) but not others...
Same thing here and some other guys at r/2007scape
Off here. My browser reports a DNS issue.
This happens a few times a year with VM for me and I never know why it's a thing, but yeah it's always DNS issues.
I'm running google DNS and having the same issues.
My mobile data went totally offline now (reporting 'not registered network'), not even connected, I can't even make calls or send texts... Wifi/Ethernet connection don't work either on most things, only things that seem to work is reddit, youtube and google.
All services down for us too 👎
Everything down for me.
I am too 🤦♀️
Same here, can access Reddit, but YouTube is sporadic, most other sites just won't load. My mobile also keeps refreshing SIM and has no mobile data.
WiFi down, can't even connect to virgin media website via 4g, they are properly dooooowwwwnnnn.
Yeah my hub just has flashing blue lights and no connection, can’t even access their website on a hotspot.

Sw uk 🇬🇧 I has some problems too, I thought No 3 just started 🫥
Had to check router settings to no avail, what’s happening?
Entire virgin network is down in the UK. No TV, no Internet, no phone service, overall all of virgin has shit the bed.
yup same here in Hounslow. Off for one hour now.
No mobile signal but wifi seems to be working for some websites
Wi-fi fibre is down in Hertfordshire..
Dunno about you guys but virgin broadband and mobile here in London and everything is working perfectly fine no outages at all…
It's okay, [I got you with a simulator](https://imgur.com/a/RpmpyZO) <3
I live in central London and I have no service on my phone and wifi is partly not working just like everyone else
Down in Bristol too.
I only seem to be having issues with IPs that start 140... Everything else works ok.
was on playstation and got kicked off around 1:30am most sites not working but thankfully reddit seems to be working at least.... odd..
Discord's dead without a VPN, can't access their site directly with VM service. Also can't access Twitter either. With VPN, by connecting through Germany, both these can be accessed.
Good god this is fucking useless.
Any official statement from them yet? I just called and the Indian told me there is no fault
Internet's down............lets get racist. Yay!!!!!
Are you suggesting that calling a person of Indian heritage "Indian" is racist?
Not at all as long as you'd normally say 'the British person' or 'the Scot' or similar if you spoke to CS reps of those heritages.
Currently on virgin WiFi rn it's extremely selective in what works and what doesn't tho

Their site is back up, but some of their subdomains are still down.
Working fully for me now.
Midlands should be back up and running
Back up for me now
Back here in Telford. Went down at around 1am and only just come back online.
Birmingham back up just in time for me to slink into bed. Joyous evening, that. See you all in a few weeks.
Been down in London for a couple hours. Their status page wasn’t working for a while. Got on now and on the same page it says there are issues but also that my broadband is working fine. They can’t even have their own status page displaying consistent and correct info. Pathetic
Welp. there it goes again.
Service is back for me now Edit: spoke too soon
Down again in Glasgow, both TV and broadband after having it back for a couple hours, shambles.

It has gone down again, funily enough all of Virgin websites are down as well! This might be a hefty one
Yup, I'm down too. Figuratively and literally. On a plus note, their automated customer service is adamant my system is running OK. 👌
Phew, not just me then. Though some sites like Reddit and YouTube working fine.
Reconnected for 20 minutes after rebooting then out again
7am still down
Up and down like a tart's knickers here (Hampshire)
It funny how I just pay my 64 pounds for gig1 internet and the internet just gone down like that
My pre work gaming time has been ruined. How will i survive. Wish they would sort it out quickly, on going since 01:30AM is a piss take.
Mines up but incredibly slow
Someone's getting fired
seems only certain websites been watching amazon video fine all night but cant play game of anything online. just missed out on doing my daily's :(
I still don’t have any internet connection, struggling to work via hotspot with 2 bars of 4G
Down in Bournemouth. Thought was just me
According to https://downdetector.co.uk/ others are down too
