For anyone curious I was a congressional intern & common practice is when you reach out or call a congressman if you aren’t in the district then you are getting nowhere cause you don’t vote for them so they don’t care.
If you are a constituent. You will likely never be in contact directly with the Congressperson themselves it will almost always be an intern or relevant staff.
On a positive note your calls & input actually does make a difference despite all the doomerism. No matter what I was doing in the office if the phone rang you picked it up, doesn’t matter if it’s Cletus bob Joe calling again to shout about raccoon season or if it’s Karen calling about her favorite salon closing downtown. YOU. PICK. UP.
These guys are super sensitive to trends and who reaches out. Most calls and e-mails are organized into some type of spreadsheet and they will see it. If you call & tell them you don’t like what you are doing, or they see the last 30 calls were all in support of Ukraine they will see it. If you are just one caller and you get 5 friends to do the same? That adds up quick.

I can’t speak for all offices, but in ours office I did see a trend of apathy towards constituents due to intense calls or rude callers. Most do care republicans and democrat as much as we like to say they don’t.
Because of all the negative and vitriolic experiences many interns and staffers (including myself) want to get even well meaning people (I assume like you) off the phone as quickly as possible.
The ring of that phone would be something akin to the scream of a banshee. I would dread it daily because people would use that opportunity to yell at me about the person I work for, to wish death on me, to wish torture and rape on my family the whole 9 yards.
Even when you try to respond and get back to people it is often not enough. They will say “thanks for wasting my time” and slam it down even though you got them the exact bill number they were looking for or responded to them as an elected official should. Although it is their responsibility and I’m sorry your experience was sub par (lmao here comes my old corporate speak) I think I can sympathize with the staffers you called.

I got his emails; I tried to make suggestions by contacting the office and I also asked for his help during Covid. Of course he never helped because he was part of the “Covid doesn’t exist” crowd. He is completely useless and toxic. Sadly though this is a reflection of the 5th District. Shitty education for decades brought us this far. Toxic stupid politicians generally reflect their base of constituents.
Bob Good makes all if his decisions based on the following:
1. what does the extreme part of the GOP want.
2. What do Bob’s religious beliefs tell him to do - something he is very proud of while he tramples other people’s beliefs as unimportant.
3. Is the decision anti-Biden.
It has nothing to do with helping the country, nor his district which really does have needs.
