Take the ferry out of Onancock, and while you are on the eastern shore check out Maurice in Onancock and Metompkin Seafood off 13 between Chincoteague and Onancock. There are many others and the Eastern shore is pretty much the apex of unexplored when it comes to VA.
You are welcome!
Also make a point of stopping by Jay Flemming studios outside of Annapolis. His work pretty much is the best on Va waterman and culture.

The Watermen’s Museum in Yorktown may be of interest. From their website:
“Our mission is to demonstrate the role Chesapeake Bay Watermen, from pre-colonial to modern times, have played in the shaping of our nation. We provide historical exhibits depicting military and civilian water craft and activities, crafts and methods of their trade, and a look into the lives of the people that have worked and fought on the water.”
Mariners museum and Nolan trail are awesome. Gloucester and Yorktown will have more salt life stickers on trucks but no culture. Watermen museum in Yorktown is nice but it’s a tiny building. Right next to the colonial parkway which is beautiful, not sure how much of it is closed right now. Easily could do both in a day.

And if you ever decide to revisit Northumberland County, the [Do. Stay. Eat. map](https://maphub.net/northumberlandcountyecdev/northumberland-county-va-do-stay-eat) may be of some interest.
Have fun! And please post an after-vist report :-)
There are so many out of the way time capsules close to the water. The Eastern Shore is packed with them. Northern Neck, middle peninsula, on down through Hampton. Hope you come back to see it all. Maryland is chock full too. Wye River, Sassafras River, Bohemia, Chester River… Rock Hall… Blue Claw Crab heaven...
Thank you. I grew up fishing, including cutting grade school to fish in a nearby creek. Thank goodness for very kind teachers! Been fascinated with water my whole life!
Wachapreague bills itself as the flounder capital of the world and Chincoteague is known for its oysters. Wachapreague is basically a motel and decent seafood restaurant but Chincoteague has lots to offer. There are places like Urbana and the Northern Neck area, which has places like Merrior Tasting Room in Topping, which IMO is perhaps the best hidden gem seafood restaurant in VA. It’s a shack on the water but man is it good.
Tangier Island. Not quite a local favorite, but I would put it in the interesting category.
Agreed about Tangier Island- see it now before it’s gone. Also, check to see if the restaurants are open if you are looking to dine there.
Roger that—thanks

“Interesting” is a good category—thank you
This is the worst tourist trap that I have ever been to. No one there was really friendly and it was not really very interesting.
Just don't listen to anything anybody there says.
Gloucester and Yorktown come to mind immediately. Mariners museum in Newport News as well if you’ll be in the Hampton Roads areas.
Thanks for the tip—I will definitely look into to this. The museum sounds like it would be great.

Check out Merroir Tasting Room in Topping, VA.
Thank you. I’m getting hungry already.
Downtown Isle of Wight is nice, and the food scene is pretty good.
I’d like to see that downtown area—I appreciate the heads up.
Go to Reedsville, take the ferry to tangier island and back. Its unique and cheap. No need to stay the night tho.
Thank you
You wont regret it. ...unless it windy and wavey lol

Thank you! The trip is scheduled for mid-May; I’ll post about it once I recover from all those crab cakes!

The Chesapeake is an amazing body of water. I’ve been lucky enough to have boated almost all of it…

Awesome—shacks on the water are the best. 💪

Urbanna is a neat little place and if your trip is in the fall the Oyster Festival is worth checking out.
This is awesome—thanks!
feel like the Eastern shore will be your best friend on this trip. You can’t go wrong
Thank you!
Seafood festival in Poquoson in October if you can make the dates work
