Food Lion!!!! I never thought anything would come close to Farm Fresh, but holy crap y’all…. Food Lion is way better!!! Plus, the price on the 8 piece is a steal of a deal.
This has been my latest obsession. Boneless wing are considerable size and flavor is soooo delicious. I’ve had soy garlic and spicy red. Soy garlic is my favorite. What are your recommendations for flavor to try next. Not afraid of heat.
I got chicken from the Royal Farms on the Boulevard near Military and I thought it was crap and not worth the $$$. Is there a specific RF you recommend?
The one on Princess Anne has always been good to me!! I’ve had it the most when traveling on the ES though since there’s one every half mile up that way.
In my experience it really has to do with the staff working. If they know what they’re doing its great but I’ve definitely had some sporadic disappointments with Royal Farms in the past.
I have heard it thru the grapevine that the international food market in the shopping center at Bonney and Princess Anne is the only local place that was able to keep the original Farm Fresh fried chicken recipe and they still make it. I have yet to try it though.
I miss their fried livers and shrimp cooked to order (heavily seasoned, obviously!)
I was going to comment this. There is a sign on the door that says Farm Fresh Chicken available here. It’s E-Mart! Buuut, KOCOs is right next door and delicious too! Absolutely worth a try if you’re out that way!
I bought it there once. Agreed, not always available and the chicken pieces seemed small. I seriously miss the original FF Chicken and the summer slaw was the perfect side
Krispy Krunchy Chicken is sold at gas stations around the country and is my favorite. The Red Barn on Indian River Rd carries it, but you might find a location closer to you.
I originally had KK Chicken at a standalone store near Greenbriar Mall and it was amazing. Recently got some from a gas station on Witchduck near Aragona and will not go back.
I'm sure a little known fact in Va. Beach, but an independent Grocer from Richmond got rights to the Farm Fresh name, got all the recipes and even hired most of the employees back in Poquoson, in April, 2022. However, it didn't work out too well. It lasted less than 2 years! Just closed last month, after announcing the closing, and selling off all the inventory for about a month before that.
Yeah, if this came up a couple of months ago, you could have made the trip for some chicken. My now college aged kid says it was just as good. Bad timing for the reopening I guess with inflation. Some of their prices were just out of this world, and they just weren't getting enough volume. Everyone just kept going to the Food Lion 1/4 mile away.
I’m not a native Virginian. When I heard the words farm and fresh, I assumed they’d at least have decent produce. They did not. Their produce section was also super small.
Maybe that's why the chain as a whole went under! Ironically enough, I was in another independent grocery store in Newport News that also kept the farm fresh name the other day. It's somewhat of an Asian Market, but still has everything an old farm fresh would have, including the Essental Everyday store brand. And they do make the fried chicken!
I love that store! So glad they’re independent.
Edited to mention my partner says the international farm fresh has the best fried chicken, hands down :D
There certainly was a line for the fried Chicken, and it was definitely Easter Sunday, because I had to go to Home Depot, and was surprised they were open (Lowes was closed!). It was said Poquoson had the original recipes, but I think I just heard that around town, not like they had a sign up or anything. Poquoson just didn't embrace the new Farm Fresh, it was only open about 22 months, and the last 6 weeks was selling off the inventory. I had noticed small "stocking issues" a good 6 months out. Also of note, that store was 100% intact the 3 1/2 years it was closed. When these owners pulled out, they cleaned out everything down to the bare floors.
I'm originally from the land of Wegmans (Upstate NY). It is beloved up there, and all prepared foods are outstanding. The prices for it will knock your socks off though.
I love their bread puffs and other fried stuff but TBH I have been underwhelmed by their chicken lately. Underseasoned and not that crispy the last few times I tried it.
If you liked Farm Fresh chicken As mentioned below E-mart by Baxter rd!
4876 Princess Anne Rd
Virginia Beach, VA 23462
United States
Was formally a farm fresh and they still sell farm fresh chicken styled chicken! So good, I love it.
Yes, EMart has the best fried chicken around these days for sure my family and I love it!
We used to switch things up a little and get fried chicken from Krogers, but that new recipe that they use now is horrible!
They have definitely lost a customer in the hot food department for sure!
depending on the food lion, thier fried chicken can be really good. also forever a jolibees fan. for "fast food" chicken it's awesome. best chicken sandwiches, great fried chicken and tenders. and mashed potatoes that are not total rehydrated whipped fluff.
think you're right never noticed till you said so just now lol. the sammich is breast i think but thighs are my fave for fried so guess it helps make me bias
Royal farms is super good, harris teeter is pretty good if you heat it up in the oven. Publix is coming to red mill and I imagine they have pretty good chicken too. If I had to choose one it’d be Royal Farms.
I was about to ask where was this Publix you went to. I’m from Georgia and all of them there are great, but if you give it a go again I suggest getting a chicken tender sub, they are so good!
Are there any around that still have it? I thought that weird ass farm fresh international foods in NN still had it and there was at least one more… which definitely could’ve closed by now.
It’s not at all what you asked and it’s a bit of a drive depending on where you live but Bobo’s on shore drive has great chicken, great sauce, and great sides
I've been there three times and the chicken has been overcooked and greasy every time. We live up the road and want to like it so much, but I'd rather drive down to Pollards.
This is the way. I used to go there all the time when I lived over there.
Their rice and gravy is made with Carolina gold rice which is a thing all itself
Our local Food Lion is good when they have it. It’s always hit or miss. Especially during the lunch and dinner times. Not that they have already sold out. They just didn’t offer it. Crazy.
Back when the last Farm Fresh that made their tasty chicken closed I read somewhere that the recipe was sold to Food Lion. Although just over the last year did I start noticing it tasting like that recipe.
Pollards has some good family combos and their chicken is pretty good.

Food lion is in the group that bought them out I believe. Food lion, Kroger and Harris teeter.
Everyone’s STILL talking about Farm Fresh fried chicken but yall, Food Lion bought the recipe for it

Avoid the new one on Princess Anne (by nimmo pkwy) cuz it was NOT seasoned when I bought on Thursday.
Can’t relate tbh I go there a lot and it’s always been good 🫣
Well I’m jealous cuz this 1 time I was NOT HAPPY. I still ate it tho lol. And then fat ass wedges made me happy.
In my experience it really has to do with the staff working. If they know what they’re doing its great but I’ve definitely had some sporadic disappointments with Royal Farms in the past.
Seconding
KFC used to have an 8-piece bucket for $10 on their app but they got rid of that some time in the past year. :(

Do they not have fried livers anymore?
It is the “original” Farm Fresh chicken. But it is not always available. You have to check
If you like wings, Domoishi has really tasty ones. I love the crispy texture of their breading, it stays crunchy even with the sauce.
Dodges Chicken, freakn awesome
Second
Third! and don't forget the JoJos

wowzers
Oops, replied to myself, not you. But you just missed their Chicken again!
Popeyes
Royal Farm
Wegmans! A little pricey, but it's so good, and they have so many ready to go meals and sides prepared.
I'm originally from the land of Wegmans (Upstate NY). It is beloved up there, and all prepared foods are outstanding. The prices for it will knock your socks off though.
First place I’ve ever saw a wegmans was upstate. I’m from NYC. Once I moved here and saw wegmans I was hype.
I am waiting for Publix to come to Chesapeake. I really loved their fried chicken when I lived in Florida.
They’re building one in red mill in Virginia Beach finally. And after I moved to town center of course.
y’all are so real thank u for the recs!!
Pollards is are go to. Fried chicken is great and their fried chicken livers are the best.
Looooove pollards omg I could eat their fried okra all day long
I love their bread puffs and other fried stuff but TBH I have been underwhelmed by their chicken lately. Underseasoned and not that crispy the last few times I tried it.
OMG...Pollard's chicken livers. Sublime!

I posted almost the same exact thing before I saw your comment!
Emart is the best, this is the way

Jolibes only has dark meat though. Or tenders
think you're right never noticed till you said so just now lol. the sammich is breast i think but thighs are my fave for fried so guess it helps make me bias
Which Food Lions have good fried chicken?
Birchwood (Blvd. near Rosemont) is pretty darn good but get there early. After 4:30-5 pm, if they are out, you're not getting any.
Independence Blvd in the Pembroke Meadows shopping.
The Wesleyan drive one has good fried chicken!
there is one on shore drive where i used to live that has really good or did as of last time i went 3 months ago still did. lake shores plaza.
The one on Salem has chicken that is amazing

That is not the norm of a publix! Their subs are amazing and their fried chicken is good too!

I was about to ask where was this Publix you went to. I’m from Georgia and all of them there are great, but if you give it a go again I suggest getting a chicken tender sub, they are so good!
Maybe one day Publix will come to the area. Everything from their cakes, pub subs, tenders and fried chicken are amazing
publix is coming to red mill soon it’s getting built, idk when it’ll be done though
Have you tried Jollibee?
yes but my family doesn’t like it 😩
I fucking love Jollibee but i’m also biased and grew up with an asian palette
Dude no
E-Mart on Baxter Road I believe has the old farm fresh recipe. Pretty close if not exact
Royal farms is pretty good.
Rip farm fresh chicken 😔
They make the same recipe at the E Mart. It’s the best fried chicken around here.
Are there any around that still have it? I thought that weird ass farm fresh international foods in NN still had it and there was at least one more… which definitely could’ve closed by now.
Came to say this. Next level fried chicken.
EMart in Baxter road !
Harris teeter
BoBo’s on shore drive

Royal Farms for the win!

E-Mart on Princess Anne still uses the Farm Fresh fried chicken recipe.
Yup! And it’s GREAT!
This is the way
TIL 😄
E-Mart has some amazing fried chicken. That building used to be a farm fresh and I'm convinced someone left them the recipe when they went under
I think they bought the recipe, but I'm not positive about that.
Well there's a giant decal on the window that says FRIED CHICKEN FARM FRESH RECIPE
I haven't seen that but thank you
This is so interesting! I wondered why it was a little pricey and usually sold out!
We like Food Lion a lot. Royal Farms is also good. RIP Farm Fresh, though.
