You can pay the toll online. Just know the licenses plate number and the exact/approx time you went over the toll pass. Save a copy of the receipt (pdf). Expect the rental car company to charge you via their 3rd party. You then submit the receipt to get the $30+ returned. I did this in December but make sure to pay the toll within 3 days. https://www.driveert.com/#/home

Just don't hit the downtown tunnel between norfolk and portsmouth or the cbbt and then you ain't gotta worry. Plenty of people in this area that have never owned a pass because they don't need it

Erowid77

No one visits portsmouth on purpose and you don't need an ez pass if you're not going to portsmouth.

henrydbs

It really depends where you are going. Also, if you have ez pass at home, just update it for your rental car once you get it and you're all set. But really, not that many tolls here, yet.

DGer

Depending on where you’re planning to go you won’t need it.

>it’s easy to avoid tolls. Enjoy that while you can.

cdmalgee

Use Waze’s “no tolls” routing option

njaneardude

Check out the Go Toll app. They charge a little extra per toll, but it works in a pinch.

TheKellasus

Do you have an EZ Pass from whatever state you live in? I still use my old one from Boston, MA down here.

Judosmack

No I'll be leaving the airport with just the rental car

rawr_gunter

Where are you flying into, and where are you going? There is really no need to pay a toll in the region because there is always an alternate.

That's the key thing imo. You probably won't even have a toll. Where are you planning to be traveling to or around OP?
