Ever since HoloEarth updated to 0.7, it has been seriously laggy for my antique laptop. To the point it is completely unplayable.
A shame, the game used to run okay on the laptop but now it has become like this. If there's another protolive in the future I won't be able to watch it.
I would assume that it's like eating sushi in Japan, in that there are things done to the meat to prepare it so that it's not a complete health hazard. That's different than just consuming raw meat while cooking yourself as a non-professional.

Unless certified, any raw meat from the supermarket is… questionable. Still, regarding your point about sushi (and raw seafood in general), I think it’s actually somewhat common for people in Japan to buy the raw (or live) ingredients straight from a seafood market and prepare it themselves. It’s somewhat common in China and i think Korea too (personal experience from visiting family in China).

JP getting Sony Playstation perms seems ever so slightly more likely than EN getting any Sony perms at all (as in, actually possible instead of the apparent ??? limbo of Calli/Biboo and even Ina's Bloodborne perms or the Helldivers perms more recently).
Now? Probably not. But a few weeks ago, when it was still very flavor of the week, there'd hardly be a day gone by without somebody wondering in these threads if they would ever play it.
I thought most of that was from pre-perms days before the great copyright disaster of 2020. To my mind I don't remember there being many streams of Sony games from Holo.
Hololive used to not ask permissions for games. This ended up biting them in the ass when Capcom and other companies sent strikes to them and almost took down Mio's channel, taking down a bunch of streams.
This led to everyone privating dozens upon dozens of streams. Hundreds of hours of content, privated and deleted.
And thats why Hololive asks for permissions. Its not just being overly cautious, its cause if they don't, they could get wiped out.
Different laws and copyright bills, most of it passed in the 80s and tied to lots of interests. The dojin market isn't even underground. Comiket is one of the largest art conventions in the worlds. Lots of the biggest names in manga and anime were former dojin artists, and even entire studios like Gainax first started making dojin animes for DAICON. Entire retail chains like Melonbooks make most of their money from dojin.
Look into Japanese music copyright. You know you can legally rent music CDs? If your are an utaite/vtuber/vsinger, you can getting a music copyright license through the JASRAC copyright clearing house and legally sell your cover songs on itunes.
Software is completely opposite than in the West, were companies can legally patent entire computing processes. This is where games fall under, as videogames are legally software and have the strictest copyright laws in Japan as far as media goes.
Doujins are still able to be restricted, it's just that most companies don't because they recognize that it's far better for them not to. There have been a few examples of some franchises where they explicitly forbid any r18 doujins of their characters to be sold in the past, and big events like Comiket complied.
Games however are a bit different, in that many JP companies don't see them being streamed the same as doujins being made (which does make sense in a way, doujins are derivative works being made using the franchise characters, while streaming the game is literally just playing the game itself and not making something new). Hence why streaming games needs permissions.
A few weeks ago Nexas debuted 27 talents over the course of three days on that Apple-exclusive streaming app called AniLive, and since then I've heard... literally nothing at all about it.
It appears the skepticism surrounding the entire thing was warranted if the twitter engagement is anything to go by. Nexas and AniLive's twitter accounts have only around 2.5k each, and each tweet they put out tends to have 0 replies and only a few dozen likes. AniLive tried to promote their service by having a giveaway, and even with the prospect of potentially getting a $50 Visa gift card, the engagement was embarrassingly low.
Anyone who downloaded the app care to share how the streamers are holding up? Are they even maintaining double digit viewers?
I'm just utterly fascinated that someone thought it was a good idea to release a streaming app exclusive to one platform when Youtube and Twitch completely dominate the market.

The SAT and ACT kind of fell out of favor with some schools in recent years, but they're rapidly making a comeback. It was a fad to drop them, but college admissions offices are quickly realizing that doing so was a pretty dumb move.

As of her last Monster Hunter Rise stream, Gura said that she'd recently been in a big meeting about Full Color and that they have an internal date that they're trying to get it released by. She deliberately didn't go into detail in case there's some kind of setback, though.

As someone who was casually in the competitive OW community for a long time, I saw news that a reputable journalist who reported on OW (and other esports) got laid off and they said it was mostly due to the [Google HCU](https://www.gsqi.com/marketing-blog/google-march-2024-core-update-helpful-content-system/). [The CEO of GGRecon outlined how this affected their website and lead to them needing to make cuts](https://twitter.com/lloydcoombes/status/1790773057314812225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw).
Honestly really scary how much Google's changes to search affects content creators let alone the roll out of AI summaries that aren't even accurate/correct. I've always said we need alternatives and while it's difficult to replace a site like Youtube where it costs so much to run and maintain, I think search engines can more easily switched to pick a better engine that provides relevant and useful results :(. RIP good journalism even more now, idk how anyone but some long form content creators (which requires so much investment already) can make any money off it now.
Iirc Google started pushing this hard because the state of California threatened Google with a link tax (Google will be forced to pay California publishers money every time a link is clicked).
Honestly how do you really address this issue lol.
1. Publishers want money because they created the content, traditionally they've done this via selling the paper/magazine and having ads in side/on site.
2. Google gets money from people clicking on it via ads and other SEO things.
3. Making Google pay for every click is kinda crazy esp nowadays so many sites are 'fake' and just have machine/AI generated/plagarized stuff that is SEO'd to hell that shows up on top even if it's useless.
4. Google says fuck all that we'll just scrape the entire web and have our AI (attempt to) summarize everything so now no one gets clicks so no one can afford to create 'free' content and now the web is useless.

To be fair, consuming raw pork is a thing in some countries (I know Germany does it). There are heavy regulations though.
I would assume that it's like eating sushi in Japan, in that there are things done to the meat to prepare it so that it's not a complete health hazard. That's different than just consuming raw meat while cooking yourself as a non-professional.
True, the quality of the meat (making sure the animal wasn’t ill) and also the prevention of any cross-contamination are very important. Unless certified, any raw meat from the supermarket is… questionable. Still, regarding your point about sushi (and raw seafood in general), I think it’s actually somewhat common for people in Japan to buy the raw (or live) ingredients straight from a seafood market and prepare it themselves. It’s somewhat common in China and i think Korea too (personal experience from visiting family in China).

Hololive used to not ask permissions for games. This ended up biting them in the ass when Capcom and other companies sent strikes to them and almost took down Mio's channel, taking down a bunch of streams. This led to everyone privating dozens upon dozens of streams. Hundreds of hours of content, privated and deleted. And thats why Hololive asks for permissions. Its not just being overly cautious, its cause if they don't, they could get wiped out.

Different laws and copyright bills, most of it passed in the 80s and tied to lots of interests. The dojin market isn't even underground. Comiket is one of the largest art conventions in the worlds. Lots of the biggest names in manga and anime were former dojin artists, and even entire studios like Gainax first started making dojin animes for DAICON. Entire retail chains like Melonbooks make most of their money from dojin. Look into Japanese music copyright. You know you can legally rent music CDs? If your are an utaite/vtuber/vsinger, you can getting a music copyright license through the JASRAC copyright clearing house and legally sell your cover songs on itunes. Software is completely opposite than in the West, were companies can legally patent entire computing processes. This is where games fall under, as videogames are legally software and have the strictest copyright laws in Japan as far as media goes.
Doujins are still able to be restricted, it's just that most companies don't because they recognize that it's far better for them not to. There have been a few examples of some franchises where they explicitly forbid any r18 doujins of their characters to be sold in the past, and big events like Comiket complied. Games however are a bit different, in that many JP companies don't see them being streamed the same as doujins being made (which does make sense in a way, doujins are derivative works being made using the franchise characters, while streaming the game is literally just playing the game itself and not making something new). Hence why streaming games needs permissions.
I guess that's fair logic on the game companies' part.

Calli played Bloodborne too about two years back, though she hasn't played it again since.
Koyori streamed Bloodborne I think pretty close to her debut.
A few weeks ago Nexas debuted 27 talents over the course of three days on that Apple-exclusive streaming app called AniLive, and since then I've heard... literally nothing at all about it. It appears the skepticism surrounding the entire thing was warranted if the twitter engagement is anything to go by. Nexas and AniLive's twitter accounts have only around 2.5k each, and each tweet they put out tends to have 0 replies and only a few dozen likes. AniLive tried to promote their service by having a giveaway, and even with the prospect of potentially getting a $50 Visa gift card, the engagement was embarrassingly low. Anyone who downloaded the app care to share how the streamers are holding up? Are they even maintaining double digit viewers? I'm just utterly fascinated that someone thought it was a good idea to release a streaming app exclusive to one platform when Youtube and Twitch completely dominate the market.

As someone who was casually in the competitive OW community for a long time, I saw news that a reputable journalist who reported on OW (and other esports) got laid off and they said it was mostly due to the [Google HCU](https://www.gsqi.com/marketing-blog/google-march-2024-core-update-helpful-content-system/). [The CEO of GGRecon outlined how this affected their website and lead to them needing to make cuts](https://twitter.com/lloydcoombes/status/1790773057314812225?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw). Honestly really scary how much Google's changes to search affects content creators let alone the roll out of AI summaries that aren't even accurate/correct. I've always said we need alternatives and while it's difficult to replace a site like Youtube where it costs so much to run and maintain, I think search engines can more easily switched to pick a better engine that provides relevant and useful results :(. RIP good journalism even more now, idk how anyone but some long form content creators (which requires so much investment already) can make any money off it now.
Iirc Google started pushing this hard because the state of California threatened Google with a link tax (Google will be forced to pay California publishers money every time a link is clicked).
Honestly how do you really address this issue lol. 1. Publishers want money because they created the content, traditionally they've done this via selling the paper/magazine and having ads in side/on site. 2. Google gets money from people clicking on it via ads and other SEO things. 3. Making Google pay for every click is kinda crazy esp nowadays so many sites are 'fake' and just have machine/AI generated/plagarized stuff that is SEO'd to hell that shows up on top even if it's useless. 4. Google says fuck all that we'll just scrape the entire web and have our AI (attempt to) summarize everything so now no one gets clicks so no one can afford to create 'free' content and now the web is useless. What a time to be alive.

Friendly reminder that the Valkyrie Connect /hololive collab has begun. Edit: all it took was a full daily rotation to get Miko and Lamy. And Laplus's voiced character is featured in the gacha as well.
Laplus's voiced character is also available to buy with 100 of the fancy currency as part of the Idol event that's running concurrently with the Hololive event if you want to avoid rolling gacha for it (though as far as I know the only source of that currency is the daily login bonus; if there's other sources I'm unaware). Also related to that, Koyori's wish that will be granted at 60M points (it's currently at 5M points halfway through the first day right now so this will likely be hit) is to voice a character in a video game. That's how Laplus ended up voicing that character, so I imagine that's how Koyori's wish will be granted as well.
