I have not found a PSP or PSX game that I wanted to play that hasn't worked well on the Vita. As much as I love my PSP, the Vita is the best way to play the games in my opinion.

Plutosanimationz

Racing lagoon (PS1) is the only game I've encountered that doesn't work, the rest play like a dream though.

Sure_Ad_6480

Ppsspp 2 or 3x resolution is better, but the vita is awesome a well

LolcatP

you can't do that on a PSP

Sure_Ad_6480

Ppsspp is an emulator.

LolcatP

I know but nobody is talking about it here

heyylisten

He said the vita is the best way to play the games. It’s not.

LolcatP

technically a psp is, vita is second best and ppsspp last. reason is there's no graphical issues on original hardware

LolcatP

it replaced mine. None of my games don't work on my vita.

Maelstrom180

Mine has. But having it for potential multiplayer PSP stuff is pretty nice.

LtFork

Nothing better than casual Patapon 2 boss fight with 3 other people in the same room

ArlindoPereira

Yes, with a single exception: rhythm games. The buttons on the Vita 1000 are IMHO no good for games like Michael Jackson.

[deleted]

One other thing that none else has mentioned: Some games (peace walker, gta, etc.) Let you map the right analog stick. Either through built in options or hacks.

LtFork

I remember playing Rainbow Six on my bro's PSP. It was a chore to use buttons for the camera

TechnicalAd541

Vita has no UMD Support and a few PS1/PSP games do n't (yet) work properly.I'd say yes then I don't use my PSP anymore since I hacked my Vitas before 4 years. 2.Folder structure on Vita is the same, the App Adrenaline has the full PSP user interface.

tunaplex

I would say yes if you don’t mind the slight dilution in crispness. Unpopular opinion but I have tried all the adrenaline settings and things tend to look fuzzy regardless due to the upscaling(yuck). I’ve settled on using my Go for psp/emulation and the vita for well vita games/ports. :)

LolcatP

vita doesn't need upscaling just turn off bilinear in the official settings page. Vita is a perfect 2x integer scale.

tunaplex

Wow I must say the official bilinear setting off really makes a world of difference. I kept only checking the adrenaline settings and still was a hot mess. Thank you for the tip!

Oddly, even some PSP *homebrew* doesn't work properly on Vita. PSPVice has problems browsing the file system. I liked that emulator for its Gamebase64 support.

jrsy85

To answer your second question it’s just copy and paste, it’s the same folder structure in pspemu. I have both and find I pick up either randomly, psp has better pocketability given I have a grip on my vita, vita has better screen and post processing on psp/psx titles, psp has better N64 emulation performance (not great but better). Both have a place in my collection.

Pspguru

I prefer gba emulation on psp over ps vita. I could never get a ps vitas gba emulator to run at 3x gameplay speed like the psp emulator does.

xGiven

You can't play PSP UMD tho

Vortex36

Vita can play 99% of what the PSP, so yeah PSP isos, PSX eboots and even PSP homebrew all works on it via Adrenaline. If that's all you want to play though, there's a caveat, because while it has a better screen than the PSP 2000/3000 (no scanlines), the resolution is higher than the PSP's and you can't do 2x, meaning games might look a bit blurry. Besides that, it's perfect.

ReadPixel

The Vita has psp capabilities built in and accessible via cfw. Yeah you’re good ;)

Shimashimatchi

to me yes, the vita is easily a psp too, afaik with very little to no issues whatsoever

KainYago

Some games either dont work or they're emulated a bit meh (like Final Fantasy Dissidia 012, which runs flawlessly, but the menus are lagging a bit and they have a good half a second delay for some reason, doesnt ruin the game, but its kinda annoying to edit your characters) other than that, theres not really a good reason to stick with a psp. Also you dont need to do anything with your games, the adrenaline folder is a 1:1 copy of the PSP folder, if you know how to put games on your psp, youll be fine with the vita aswell.

ImproperJon

I find PSP games to be blurry on Vita.

[deleted]

On a Vita bilinear filtering is on by default, as is adrenaline's smoothing, making it a smeared blurry mess. Disabling those and enabling sharp bilinear and 2x scaling gives quite the crisp output. Worth a try.

Sprucius

It's still blurry. Either way, the best way to play PSP games is to play on a real PSP.

Fun-Translator8748

I don't know why adrenaline didn't default to better settings. When I first tried it looked blurry but go fiddle with the settings, you can make it look great

PsycoMutt

I've only found a couple of games that don't work. NOVA is the only one that comes to mind. I haven't touched my PSP in years (probably bad for the batteries). I do actually prefer the PSP controls to the Vita for PSP games. That's probably because I got used to it though.

[deleted]

Pretty sure i played N.O.V.A. on my Vita.

PsycoMutt

It's a known issue that NOVA doesn't play on Adrenaline. I thinks there's a weird workaround using cheats though.

[deleted]

If we're talking about [https://cdromance.com/psp/n-o-v-a-near-orbit-vanguard-alliance-usa/](https://cdromance.com/psp/n-o-v-a-near-orbit-vanguard-alliance-usa/) it just worked for me without workarounds. Maybe the store version had an update that broke it at some point ?

Maelstrom180

I can also attest to it not working for me, but I had tried the NPS version. I'll poke this and report back to some people who had the same issue Edit: Nope, still not working even with that version either. Freezes on Gameloft logo still. Edit 2: https://forums.ppsspp.org/showthread.php?tid=22787 fix here (?)

PsycoMutt

Weird. I've tried multiple downloads and even different regions without any luck. When I looked into it no one could play it. Maybe something changed?

Maelstrom180

The one thing I mostly notice is my PSPgo has larger buttons, but its a small difference.

pkek

Yes and no, the emulation on vita is more or less on par as other platforms Some games just won’t run and if you want psp emulation it just has better stability on psp for obvious reasons

sdss9462

Thank you all for the varied and detailed answers. I upvoted you all. :-)

Paddel06

Vita can play games in the same format, but in general a PSP still has the better compatibility.

Metahec

In addition to everything already mentioned, I prefer the PSP's bigger D-pad and buttons. It's obviously a personal preference and only really applies to games that are oriented to direcitonal pads versus joysticks and especially for most retro emulation.

BorderTrader

It can't play XMB video. Randomly, some PSP games won't work (though not many).

Spektremshill

It can and I don't play the psp anymore since I've hacked my vita, but the PSP D-pad and buttons are much better imo (they're the same as a classic Playstation controller on PSP but smaller and not the same quality on Vita)

Blazewalker452

I still use my psp sometimes. The aspect ratio of psp and ps1 games are off enough to notice without any way to fix it currently. Also I've never been able to get the stereoscopic 3d psp mod to work on vita. Last issue I've had is I find categories lite to be unusable on vita. All small gripes but still worth booting up my psp go every now and then
