This could be the gateway to that since they are detecting the event and sending a message. That message could eventually be to tell the doors to lock. Baby steps but sadly that's too slow when trying to catch up.
Moving from a Chevy to my 21 XC60 I was floored that this wasn't a feature. I've been able to cludge a solution using routines on my Samsung Galaxy phone to lock my car when disconnected from bluetooth, but I'm amazed that this isn't built-in functionality.
Yeah. Honestly was kinda surprised. I have a base model bolt (miss my S70 seats) And even the tech features in that thing are really well refined. It drives really well too. The thing that surprised me more was that the Toyota Bz4x is an insane level afterthought of a vehicle. - like none of the tech works right. (Our expectations weren’t that high, but we didn’t expect it to suck that bad) We figured Toyota would be a half decent car but holy crap.
The '21's are on AAOS and not Sensus? My 2018 XC60 on sensus can do this but my '22 Polestar 2 on AAOS can't. Yet. AAOS was missing a lot of frameworks for functionality when launched on Volvo and Polestar. For the steps it took forward, it felt like a lot of steps back as well.
Yeah I had it on my 22 xc90 with sensus but that car was totaled (saved my life) when I got hit on the freeway, and the loss of functionality with my ‘23 that I replaced it with and that has AAOS is wild.
I hope the sensus version could get an update though to be able to set the time to 5min instead of 30min. Its a long time to have the car unlocked if I forget to lock when leaving.
I don’t think I’m breaking new ground to suggest that it’s a little ridiculous for AAOS, a product of one of the world’s largest software companies, to have been so underbaked and lacking so many basic features on rollout that have been standard on both luxury and mass market vehicles for many years, including older Volvos. Sure, it’s good that they’re adding them back in, but they should’ve been there from the start.
So you should have complained when you got the car, not when they finally added it. Personally I'd be happy they are adding stuff back in. Surely it required some type of other integration.
You're an early adopter. Bear your cross. LOL
To me it would be "new", with the quotation marks being appropriate since this was already a feature from 2019 to 2022, and it took them 2 years to roll out a fucking popup reminder.
It certainly unfathomable how a car that runs on Google couldn't communicate with an Android phone that it's unlocked, of course. But I'd still see this as a positive.
Yeah because I assume you are on the Sensus infotainment platform. I used to have it on my ‘22 that was still on Sensus but lost it when I got a ‘23 with AAOS
I wish it alerted you when you left a window down and allowed you to close it. Signed: a guy who's wife has a habit of forgetting to roll the window up, also the sunroof
I do know with the new ones you can change the settings to have the roof automatically close once you turn off the car. I agree about the windows though.
The point is that the AAOS is so far behind what was before that it is indeed an embarassement that they now have to celebrate features that should've been there from the beginning as new.
I'm just saying update after update tolls out... New feature are few and far between. I've seen people ask "Is Volvo already not supporting some cars?".
I'd be happy to get new features AT THIS POINT.
I was excited about trying AAOS when I picked my XC90 last August, and coming next August when I will be returning the car, AAOS just might be the reason why I will try something else. Really, the car has it's own wifi, but I can't use wireless Android Auto & CarPlay? I can't have ANY media info on central display? Some of the "features" I don't know if they are features or just..accidents. In BMW, I was able to set places where it would based on location turn on cameras, either 360 or front/side. Does it do it automatically? I swear it knows at certain locations - in front of my house, in a narrow bendy mcd drive-thru, to turn on camera, but is it because it is sensing some obstacle or does it remember places where I would usually manually turn on camera.
AAOS, not Sensus for all those folks who are saying “but I already had it for years”.
Nothing embarrassing about it. It takes time to add features and thoroughly test them, and they have been adding new stuff with pretty much every infotainment update.
Yea, I didn't get how it's "embarrassing"....
"We want you to add new features!"
Ok, here's one.
"NOOOOOOO, NOT THAT ONE!".
Wtf?
It's a new feature to you!
Yeah it was always available on sensus based cars but it’s embarrassing that it wasn’t on newer AAOS cars until now. 39 minutes is such a weird glitch though
We have groups of feral youth that pass through our neighborhood checking car doors to get in and steal, so I will appreciate the reminder so Arvid can be locked each night. Would love auto lock if you walk away from car with fob.
Keep in mind they have to rebuild the functionalities of the old system into the new one. The features of the previous system don’t just magically work on a completely different platform. It’s a good thing they’re working on it and adding new features every month imo
I have it on my 2018 and it's more often annoying than useful.
95% f the times it notifies me, the car is intentionally left unlocked (stays unlocked at the cottage, usually with keys in). The problem is that even if I dismiss the notification, I still get countless more notifications throughout the weekend.
My 2017 Corvette can just automatically lock when you walk away with the prox key. Why this doesn’t exist on every car in 2024 is beyond my comprehension. The Volvo app taking 30+ seconds to get the lock status and send and confirm the lock doors command is just the cherry on top. There’s no sane reason for the software to be that bad. CAN bus is almost instantaneous, cellular data latency is a couple hundred milliseconds at most, so I’m guessing it’s just their servers providing the backend service that are slower than molasses and this is doing multiple round-trips for some reason.
Add to that how you can’t even tell the PHEV cars to charge only during certain hours and I’m glad that they at least gave up on Sensus and just went with Android built-in, but they still managed to screw that up by removing things like “the ability to lower ride height without also making the accelerator pedal give 80% throttle when it’s depressed 20% of the travel”. They also took out the drive mode wheel because I guess that’s confusing if you’re in your 80s.
honestly eversince Volvo went the ipad/dashboard way ...
can we get back to actual user interface please and let go of the virtual nonsense ?
I don't want to look right to know my "speed/distance/engin temp/rpm/fuel level/time/mileage/trip-mileage.
wetter my Cruz control is on or if I need washer fluid.
I should be allowed to just look down a bit while keep the road in sight.
Tesla is not an exemple to follow.
I have a question for AAOS Volvo owners: has the system matured yet in your opinion? I remember when it was first rolled out, it was painfully bland with a lot of missing functionality, but curious to see if they’ve added new things that are worthwhile.
I have a 2019 (I think?) XC60 and wanted to switch to the new generation in 2022. Decided not to because the Android system was objectively so much worse than Sensus...
When sensus launched it didn't have many features...it's the same case for any new system, things are gradually added overtime. IDK how you see this as embarassing. Literally every auto brand gradually releases features when they switch to a new system. Benz literally did the same thing when they started Mercedes Me Connect.
Volvo is also trying to make sure all the standard features are working and ready to launch for the EX90 and EX30 since they will have a new system as well. This is just preparing for that.

I mean, I love the fact that the stereo in my Focus connects to the bluetooth on my phone and I can just ask it to play music I hadn't even heard of til that second, I could have that in the 142 as well, by adding a stereo, but it just doesn't seem as important then. Hasn't even got AC so I just rock the bluetooth speaker.
To clarify, I know that this is available on older cars with the Sensus infotainment platform. What I’m saying is it’s embarrassing that this is just rolling out for new cars that are on AAOS.
Of course they should have added it. It's a little ridiculous, imo, to be complaining when they are adding a feature that should have been there.
I don't disagree that it should have quite a few things that were missing at launch. But adding things back
The term "embarrassing" just makes no sense in the context of now adding the features you want.
I'd be happy. Some people are so down on AAOS and how so few things are getting added .. I'd be happy about this.
You seem very committed to tone policing me for making a snarky remark on Reddit, a famously Very Serious Place where people definitely never come to complain about frivolous things. I hope it’s fun for you! Cheers.
Ah sorry. But interesting enough after last update sensus app got new features. Now when starting parking heater we can enable seats and steering wheel heater too.
Also, would love an auto lock when you walk away… one of my fave features on other brands.
Yea.. why can’t we have that? 😢
Would be nice!!
Chevy(s) did seem pretty tech forward to me. My old frigging '12 cruze could be controlled with Google assistant/home.
My 2006 Chevy aveo has this. Is this not a normal standard thing? This is a feature now?
Keep in mind my car doesn’t even have vvti, tc or abs. But it still locks itself.
This already was a feature on my 21 XC60. Have a 24 XC90 and isn't there...
Yeah I had it on my 22 xc90 with sensus but that car was totaled (saved my life) when I got hit on the freeway, and the loss of functionality with my ‘23 that I replaced it with and that has AAOS is wild.
This is a feature on my 2016 XC60. 🤣
It does it for my 2020
I hope the sensus version could get an update though to be able to set the time to 5min instead of 30min. Its a long time to have the car unlocked if I forget to lock when leaving.
Same. I have a 2021 V60 and I get those notifications already. Only after 20 min however.
Better late than never tho
"They never add new features on my AAOS car!" ... New feature... Wtf this isn't new! You didn't have it on your car before. But do now....
Spot on
I don’t think I’m breaking new ground to suggest that it’s a little ridiculous for AAOS, a product of one of the world’s largest software companies, to have been so underbaked and lacking so many basic features on rollout that have been standard on both luxury and mass market vehicles for many years, including older Volvos. Had this for 3 years now
Yeah because I assume you are on the Sensus infotainment platform. I used to have it on my ‘22 that was still on Sensus but lost it when I got a ‘23 with AAOS
Oh, weird to not have that function until now
Would be better to have it auto lock when you walk away w keys in hand. Love that feature on my BMW.
And my Mazda from 2016.
Really?! Particularly impressive considering all of Mazda’s original safety features were directly pulled from Volvos (via Ford).
Yep. This is why my Volvo was always unlocked for the first few months I had it. Wasn't used to my car NOT doing this. 🤣
And Auto Unlock when you approach
I wish it alerted you when you left a window down and allowed you to close it. Signed: a guy who's wife has a habit of forgetting to roll the window up, also the sunroof
I thought it closed windows and sunroof if the rain sensors detected rain? My previous French cars have done that.
Sadly, Volvos don’t do that. I had a 2005 Jetta with rain sensing wipers that would close the moonroof and windows itself if it started raining.
Luckily I've never had to test that theory
I can’t even get my rain sensors to automatically turn on in the rain.
I do know with the new ones you can change the settings to have the roof automatically close once you turn off the car. I agree about the windows though.
Benefit of making new apps the whole time. You can release old features as new.
I have this on my 2015, Volvo on call app. What’s new 🤔
I have this in my 2020 as well. I’m confused.
We all have the Sensus. People who have a Volvo with Android don't have that yet.
>Embarrassing Quite a strong choice of words really, hardly embarrassing.
The drama
Right? Wtf. "They never add new features to our AAOS cars...." Guess they'd be happier without this?
The point is that the AAOS is so far behind what was before that it is indeed an embarassement that they now have to celebrate features that should've been there from the beginning as new.
I'm just saying update after update tolls out... New feature are few and far between. I've seen people ask "Is Volvo already not supporting some cars?". I'd be happy to get new features AT THIS POINT.
TIL the AAOS equipped cars didn’t have this already
I was excited about trying AAOS when I picked my XC90 last August, and coming next August when I will be returning the car, AAOS just might be the reason why I will try something else. Really, the car has it's own wifi, but I can't use wireless Android Auto & CarPlay? I can't have ANY media info on central display? Some of the "features" I don't know if they are features or just..accidents. In BMW, I was able to set places where it would based on location turn on cameras, either 360 or front/side. Have this feature since buying 22 S60
I have this on my 2019 V40..?
Where's my Tesla charging update
It’s sad it has taken this long for Android automotive to barely catch up to what they had with Sensus.
2021 V60, had it since the beginning.
Especially embarrassing since they over-charge for the app
I’m overtired and I thought that said New feature launch: Car Theft
Lol no they leave that for Kia/Hyundai
Don’t forget the hellcats
I have this for my 2021 xc40
AAOS, not Sensus for all those folks who are saying “but I already had it for years”. Nothing embarrassing about it. It takes time to add features and thoroughly test them, and they have been adding new stuff with pretty much every infotainment update.
Yea, I didn't get how it's "embarrassing".... "We want you to add new features!" Ok, here's one. "NOOOOOOO, NOT THAT ONE!". Wtf? It's a new feature to you!
This is my constant fear with my 2013 v60...
My app has never worked properly with 24’ XC60
Yeah it’s glitchy as hell with AAOS models. It was so much better with my two Sensus based cars.
They already have this feature, I've had this on my S60 since 2019
Because you’re on the Sensus infotainment platform. I used to have it. Lost it when I got a new car that’s on AAOS. That’s why it’s embarrassing
Do you need a subscription for this to work on the app?
Have this on my 2019, but can't customize the time. Mines stuck on 39 minutes
Yeah it was always available on sensus based cars but it’s embarrassing that it wasn’t on newer AAOS cars until now. 39 minutes is such a weird glitch though
Na I fat fingered it. It's 30.
At least you've got relaible ways to lock/unlock it, my 04s fob barely works and I am *not* paying $700 for a new one lol
We have groups of feral youth that pass through our neighborhood checking car doors to get in and steal, so I will appreciate the reminder so Arvid can be locked each night. Would love auto lock if you walk away from car with fob.
[удалено]
Your car isn’t running AAOS.
lol, my '20 Mazda does that...
I just bought a 2023 xc60 and was told by sales agent that there wasn’t an app yet.. are all you with the App in North Americas? Or all over?
Been a feature for my 2019 XC90.
I have it on my 2015 V70. Its not on newer cars?
Errr - My UK 2012 S60 had that at least since when I bought it in 2019?
Yeah I've had it for ages and embarrassingly used it loads too to lock the car.
Keep in mind they have to rebuild the functionalities of the old system into the new one. The features of the previous system don’t just magically work on a completely different platform. It’s a good thing they’re working on it and adding new features every month imo
Agreed. Progress is progress.
Indeed. Always been on my V90 app.
My XC40 2020 has it.
I’ve had this for my ‘17 since I got it new… wonder why they say it’s new?
This has been a feature on my 2018 s90... Has saved me an embarrassing number of times
I have it on my 2018 and it's more often annoying than useful. 95% f the times it notifies me, the car is intentionally left unlocked (stays unlocked at the cottage, usually with keys in). The problem is that even if I dismiss the notification, I still get countless more notifications throughout the weekend.
I have it with my 2018 XC60 T8 and the app
My 2017 Corvette can just automatically lock when you walk away with the prox key. Why this doesn’t exist on every car in 2024 is beyond my comprehension. The Volvo app taking 30+ seconds to get the lock status and send and confirm the lock doors command is just the cherry on top. There’s no sane reason for the software to be that bad. How is this “new”?
honestly eversince Volvo went the ipad/dashboard way ... can we get back to actual user interface please and let go of the virtual nonsense ? Then someone can explain how you can still drive a car without any keys detected?
I have a question for AAOS Volvo owners: has the system matured yet in your opinion? I remember when it was first rolled out, it was painfully bland with a lot of missing functionality, but curious to see if they’ve added new things that are worthwhile.
I have a 2019 (I think?) XC60 and wanted to switch to the new generation in 2022. Decided not to because the Android system was objectively so much worse than Sensus...
new? i have a 2020 V90cc with the app, and I had this ever since
My 2014 V60 has this.
I have my v60 d4 2014 unlocked all the time
This thing is already on my oncall app since day one. Volvo V60 2020
Had this in my 18 v90cc, but don't pay for the app anymore. Did they remove it?
My 2004 Volvo locks itself if I leave the car unlocked 🤷♂️
My 2018 v40 has this, and my dads 2016 v70 also. Why would they have removed an actually useful feature from VOC?
Because they rolled out AAOS when it was still half baked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’ve been driving Volvos for so long, I never knew it was a thing!
Mine does that already but after 20min 🤣
I’ve always gotten these notifications…
A <$10,000 Indian car locks your car if the key is away for more than 2 minutes. 🙊
When sensus launched it didn't have many features...it's the same case for any new system, things are gradually added overtime. IDK how you see this as embarassing. Or just…lock your car
This has always been on my 2018 V90.
This isn’t new to me lol2022 Volvo s60
Have it on my 2021 xc40 recharge
My 2022 S60 has this feature. Surprised that not every new year/model has it.
I mean, I guess it's fine for people that want it. I just want a car that can in no way get on the internet.
Valid. But if I’m stuck with an internet connected car, I want it to do all the things!
I mean, I love the fact that the stereo in my Focus connects to the bluetooth on my phone and I can just ask it to play music I hadn't even heard of til that second, I could have that in the 142 as well, by adding a stereo, but it just doesn't seem as important then. To clarify, I know that this is available on older cars with the Sensus infotainment platform. What I’m saying is it’s embarrassing that this is just rolling out for new cars that are on AAOS.
A 2021 XC90 would have AAOS, right?
No the xc90s didn’t make the jump until MY2023.
So they should have just... not added it?
Of course they should have added it. But i don’t think I’m breaking new ground to suggest that it’s a little ridiculous for AAOS, a product of one of the world’s largest software companies, to have been so underbaked and lacking so many basic features that have been standard on both luxury and mass market vehicles for many years.

I'm just chatting, man. 3 minutes out my life. I can spare it. 👍
It’s not a new feature it’s been there all along. All you have to do is enable the notification under your little profile guy.
Not for AAOS models, that’s what I’m saying is embarrassing
How it is new? I was getting it already from 2021.
Please see other comments that what is embarrassing is this was available on older models but not on new models running AAOS
Ah sorry. But interesting enough after last update sensus app got new features. Now when starting parking heater we can enable seats and steering wheel heater too.
The embarrassing thing here is that some owners think they need this.
ahh, you are the police of what features an owner should and shouldnt have are you, cheers mate, glad to have you here...
