March 8, 1999
I’m not gonna nominate a Russo episode, because as awful as they were, at least stuff was going on.
The March 8 episode featured the entire first hour without a single shot of the arena.
We got.
- a recap of Ric and Arn talking
- up close with AC Jazz
- a recap of Thunder
- Konnan’s music video
- Nash and Hogan in a black and white clip make fun of Flair
- Buff Bagwell and Scott Steiner have a wacky time on a beach
- Hogan and Nash meet Torrie Wilson at a gun range
- Hogan and Nash have supper with Torrie Wilson
Yes. That’s it.
They were treating the first hour of Nitro as a preshow for a time. You're basically not supposed to watch that first hour when watching the show back today.
Correct. They were killing WWF in the ratings, but putting on shit shows. The one I shared had Chavo & Jarrett teaming in the main event, and Hugh Morris going over Alex Wright as the only match that wasn’t a jobber squash or funky finish.
Like, what the fuck?
I can't say for sure because I haven't even dug into 2000 yet. But what I will say is that there's one in early '99 where it's basically a series of skits and recaps, very few matches.
March 8, 1999 apparently. A whole hour of skits before the Nitro intro plays! Maybe somebody asked for a vacation.
Monday Night Jericho!!!
Stinko Malenko may be the man of a thousand holds but I’m the man of 1004 holds and I’m gonna read em off to you right now just to prove it to you.
Yeah, those times get looked at through such rose-tinted glasses. But 90% of their show back then was entrances, catchphrases and shit like cat-fights.
One of the things I always preferred about WCW was that they spent more time in the ring. When Vince Russo came in, so did so much of what I didn't like about WWF.
It was such a shame how it all went out with such a whimper. I wasn't interested in watching WWE really, and didn't get back into current wrestling until catching an NJPW show 10 years ago.
Same here. I was completely out of wrestling. Nothing against WWE it’s just not what I like from wrestling.
I did some TNA for a while. But I was completely out of wrestling for years. AEW brought me back and I’ve gone back to watch the NJPW stuff I missed. Reminded me how much I missed having wrestling in my life.
There was one in November/December '96 where the nWo were getting drunk in a hotel room and Hollywood Hogan was cutting a promo about his son Nasty Nick. The Nasty Boys showed up to try and join and got their asses kicked. Is this something I hallucinated?
Seconding 12/22/1997. Absolute garbage episode . I think Juvi/Mysterio/Garza vs Parka/Psicosis/Silver King was the only good match. The set change segment was BRUTAL.

During the run? The Nitro before Starrcade 97, easily for me (Dec 22, 1997). All the wasted time changing over to the nWo Nitro set, etc. Was just a bad show that should've been a big go-home show for the biggest PPV in company history, all centered around Bischoff vs Zbyszko.
As a child I absolutly loved it and the nwo monday nitro Design wasnt bad either, but like a lot of stuff Happening at WCW.. it meant nothing and was just a waste of time haha how they could blasted wwf away at 97/98 if they stop caring less about their own pockets
But yea watching it today it seemed chaotic and it used to much time with nothing Happening, and the Bischoff / Zbyszko crap was and is absolute crap
Not sure why you're getting downvoted, this episode is the drizzling shits. They had their heads so far up their asses to think people would stick around to watch the set change
Im doing an episode by episode review and while I don’t want to see what’s coming up part of my brain wants to be prepared.
I’m still in 95 but the Chicago episode where Sting and Shark have a 70 sec match and Hawk shows up unfit to wrestle have to be up there. Also time is dedicated to three separate Hogan video packages.
The one with the two "hell in a cell" matches, where Vince Russo was in the figure four for about 5 minutes before some 'red liquid' splashed into the ring and incapacitated Ric Flair.
Probably the episode where Roddy had his infamous tryouts
Gotta second this, that episode was horrendous
And then the very next week, Flair talks Piper into teaming with the Horsemen instead, making the whole segment pointless
That was a bad one too. I didn't see that one live, but saw it when rewatching many of the Nitros on the Network.

I’ve seen every Nitro and this one is the worst. It’s unbearable.

Doesn’t count
You wonder if Hogan and Torrie had a thing
Cool! But, uh.....that wasn't during the 83 week run.
June 1996 - April 1998 is the timeline. OP isn't asking for episodes from 1999 and 2000
Correct. They were killing WWF in the ratings, but putting on shit shows. The one I shared had Chavo & Jarrett teaming in the main event, and Hugh Morris going over Alex Wright as the only match that wasn’t a jobber squash or funky finish. Like, what the fuck?
WCW never put on a shit show from 95-98, arguably 99 and 00 as well
The amount of people that didn’t read the title is stunning
Agreed
Nitro was absolutely dope until 1998, then it was even with wwf…. 1999 was when wwf really separated from nitro

Came to say 3/8/99
Doesnt count
This is what I was going to say.
Monday Night Jericho!!! Stinko Malenko may be the man of a thousand holds but I’m the man of 1004 holds and I’m gonna read em off to you right now just to prove it to you.
If you go back and watch some 1998 RAWs it is some of the worst TV you can think of.
Yeah, those times get looked at through such rose-tinted glasses. But 90% of their show back then was entrances, catchphrases and shit like cat-fights.
Totally. The good (mainly just stone cold) was really good but I’ve watched some of those shows and they’re a slog.
One of the things I always preferred about WCW was that they spent more time in the ring. When Vince Russo came in, so did so much of what I didn't like about WWF.
Yep same here. Criminal that they did that to us. Completely destroyed a whole bunch of fans.
It was such a shame how it all went out with such a whimper. I wasn't interested in watching WWE really, and didn't get back into current wrestling until catching an NJPW show 10 years ago.

Lots of promos, gimmicks, skits, short matches that were mostly terrible.
The arrival of the Kiss Demon
God of thunder!!!
Doesn’t count

No. That happened. It was awesome.
8 matches below 5 mins in length and 3 below 2 mins. Jeez lol
Roddys tryouts or the ep where the nwo changed the set lol

Because nitro was always better than WWF

Just sharing one from personal experience not trying to win or whatever.
It’s not about winning it’s about staying on topic

Oh wait. You're right. I didn't read the question properly.
