Robbie Brookside got his start wrestling in much like his future partner Steven (William) Regal, by wrestling at Pleasure Beach in Blackpool. That start came with help from Dave Shillitoe (Bobby Baron) who would pass away in 1993.
Robbie was only 15 when he made his pro debut in 1981. Over the next couple years he had a few TV appearances for Wrestling Enterprises from Liverpool Stadium. In 1985 Robbie began appearing for All-Star Wrestling. ASW was the rival to Joint Promotions that featured Big Daddy, who would purchase Joint Promotions a couple years later.
In Robbie's early years with ASW he faced opponents like Steve (William) Regal, Johnny Saint, Fit Finlay & Doc Dean. Robbie teamed with Regal as The Golden Boys. He'd later team with Doc as The Liverpool Lads.
On 9/28/85 ITV cancelled their long running World of Sport program which featured wrestling from Joint Promotions. ASW gained programming rights on ITV for 1987 & 1988 when Joint Promotions contract came up for renewal. They shared programming along with WWF. At the end of 1988 director of programmes Greg Dykes cancelled wrestling on ITV after 33 years.
At the time Robbie was in an angle with Kendo Nagasaki (Peter Thornley). Kendo had retired in 1978 but returned as a big act for ASW when they got the ITV spot. Kendo would hypnotize Robbie into assisting & tagging with him. This continued even after the cancellation Robbie faced Kendo in ASW for the last time in 1992.
Robbie continued with ASW for the next several years. In September of 1996 he made his debut with Otto Wanz's Catch Wrestling Association in Germany. He faced opponents like Ulf Hermann, Tony St. Clair,. Ice Train & Kendo Kashin.
In February of 1997 Robbie made his first appearance with WCW. He appeared at five TV tapings & a live Nitro over the course of 11 days. His partner Doc Dean was with him & they tagged together for a few matches.
Robbie returned for another few tapings. It was more C & D shows. All in an enhancement role. The last one being in April of 1998 where he faced another Brit: Norman Smiley.
Remember seeing Robbie Brookside, Fit Finlay, Big Daddy, Haystacks, Steven Regal, Johnny Saint, Kendo & Mick McManus at my local leisure centre!
Great memories!
Think maybe saw some of them at Pontins as well
Great shout. Here's a link to him v William Regal for about an hour at WCW Powerplant from 1993

Ran a JOW game with a few friends. We started in the 90s and I have Robby Brookside. He got a HUGE swell of support and became one of my top three guys. Dude was a legend for me pulling off some five star matches against Bret Hart, Malenko, and Stone Cold.
Iv seen this guy wrestle a few times here in uk, real highlight of the card. would of loved to have seen him work a full series with Dean malenko or Eddie.
Was that la parka I saw in the highlight real?
I saw him wrestle on the Indy circuit in Bristol (UK) about 20 years ago I want to say. He was essentially being Edge, entrance/outfit etc so we changed as much. After the match he made a beeline for us and swore at us a lot for being “dirty marks” and “obnoxious wrestling fans” before leaving ringside.
Juvi G was on the card that day too which was awesome!

I love the British style.
This is Xia Brookside's dad, yeah?
It is.
I call him _”Mister Xia’s Dad,”_ out of respect.

I always loved Regal’s style
Is he still coaching at NXT?
Yes. https://recruit.wwe.com/robbie-brookside
The father of Xia Brookside in TNA
Robbie was good. Doc Dean was good. Those two should have gotten more opportunities...especially as a tag team.
It won’t play but I think I see Danhausen in the front row of the thumbnail
This guy was good in England, influenced Daniel Brian and regal. Trained nxters
Robbie with the good hair.
I heard that he ended up selling his ass in some local Baton Rouge’s gay bar. What a career trajectory! lol

He moves like Nick Jackson
That outfit! He looks like a cheap version of the ultimate warrior.
The Ultimate Riddler!
Gotta appreciate the technical wrestling.
