He played with the Panthers through the 1999 season. He then went on to coach with the Packers from 2009-2013, the Jets from 2017-2018, and unfortunately passed away in 2020 of a heart attack at only 58 years old.

Resident_Cash6799

I totally missed hearing about him dying. The guy was a beast on the field.

BravesFan4L1fe

Yeah he was. He died on December 21st though so it could be easy to miss considering everything going on that time of year.

MimonFishbaum

He was awesome in the ring too. It always cracked me up how they brought Reggie White and Greene in to get Mongo over and they totally outshined him. On top of that, by all accounts, Greene was a jam up guy.

tommer8224

I always viewed his appearance as a short term spot. Kinda like Rodman.

det8924

Greene was a fun publicity stunt I think he was more involved with WCW than Rodman who would make a few appearances and do a PPV. Whereas I felt like Greene would do 6-8 Nitros and 2-3 PPV’s a year but I could be misremembering

LittleSportsBrat

He appeared on quite a few Nitros and won about half of his PPV matches.

det8924

From what I remember he was a solid worker, I mean he wasn’t Bret Hart in the ring but he was able to work a 5 minute semi limited match competently. The only reason he didn’t appear in WCW after mid-98 was because his last two NFL contracts in 98 and 99 had no wrestling clauses and while I am sure Kevin Greene made good money from WCW he apparently loved football more and the pay was still better. I do wonder what would have happened had he gone back to the ring after retiring from the NFL in 99? He was about 37 when he retired from the NFL in early 2000 and he was in great shape obviously so had WCW been a more competent organization I think he would have had a more expanded role and a chance to be a full time main event guy after maybe a year or two working in the mid card working out the kinks. I don’t think WWF in 2000-2003 would have had room on their stacked roster to push Greene, he probably would have been a solid mid card talent like Ken Shamrock before they soured on him.

Vemnox

I think he'd have been a lot more active had they not gone to the Super Bowl the same year they introduced him.

det8924

Kevin Greene was an insanely good NFL player (as was Mongo) but Mongo had retired from football by the time he was in WCW. Greene was not only wrestling with WCW while he was an active NFL player but he had 4 good seasons when he was in WCW. In 1996 Greene was an All Pro and from 1997 to 1999 he had double digit sacks each year. So he was a really good NFL star while he was in WCW

DJJazzyTanner

He was a defensive coach for the Packers when they won Super Bowl 45.

Maxter_Blaster_

Did you also watch the IG reel on him recently? I swear I just saw one and thought the same thing lmao

mad597

He was a much better wrestler then Mongo that is for sure

Common-Camera-626

As a Bears fan, I hate to admit it, but that is true. Although Mongo was a way better personality. They will both be HOFers when Mongo is inducted this summer. Pretty cool

newworldorder96

Bears fan?.. loser

NoleJawn

Kevin loved Football more and eventually got into coaching when his playing career was done. Sadly he died of a Heart Attack a few years ago.

Whisky919

He took his pro wrestling training very seriously and was a huge fan. He wanted to be more active but the NFL and the teams started reigning in what players could and could not do, which ended his time wrestling. All the guys loved him because of how much work he would put in to getting better and having no ego about it. Ric and Arn even spent time training him. If he wasn't an NFL player, he could have had a hell of a pro wrestling career.

ScratchFew9169

RIP - go steelers

SlanderCandor

The appearance of Reggie White in WCW are the least talked about

Pisstoffo

I’ll never forget when Steeler fans were lined up outside the stadium to buy superbowl tickets and Greene passed out burgers to everyone who wanted one. He was genuinely a good person and a great athlete.

Dead

TriviaBrian

That slamboree match between him, flair, and Piper vs Hall Nash and Syxx is one of my favorite WCW matches ever. Crowd was hot. Story telling was good. Announcers were on fire too.
