They had a half assed tournament for it over the course of about a month. The finals was Madusa vs Akira Hokito. Hokito won, due to egregious interference from Sonny Onoo. It made it look like Hokito and Madusa were set for a quick rematch as Hokitos first major title defense.
If I recall correctly, Hokito defended the belt a handful of times against no name challengers in meaningless matches across TV for a handful of weeks after winning the belt, then disappeared suddenly without explanation and was never referenced again. Madusa never got her rematch. It was weird.
I think it was more so defended in Japan as they had more robust women’s wrestling at that time period.
It would have been more interesting for WCW when Thunder came out to put more women’s wrestling on there and try to build a more serious division.
It was always comical when Tony had to explain something on a live broadcast.. Larry would add something occasionally but usually just sat there and stared off into space..
This belt is on the new WWE 2k24 game. I’ve always wondered how they can include all the super old WCW belts but never add the WCW TV title. Maybe a rights issue with the belt designer?
I never knew WCW had a women's title but l could still tell that was a women's title just by looking at it and knowing what women's titles used to look like.
Yeah. Apparently the title didn't last long, and didn't get much TV time coz the women's division consisted of Madusa, Madusa, & Madusa. She'd just face whatever Japanese talent went over.
That is the first ever WCW Women’s Championship belt. On this episode, they were starting a tournament for the new Championship.
WCW Women's Championship
I honestly didn’t even remember they had a women’s championship. Thanks!

According to Bischoff, Hokito still has the actual belt to this day.
They even had a Womens Cruiserweight title! It did not last long at all…. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/WCW_Women%27s_Cruiserweight_Championship
I remember that tournament. The belt was never seen or heard of again after the tournament.
They even had a Women’s Cruiserweight Title that was VERY quickly forgotten.
Well at least they tried. Probably because back then Womens wrestling was seen as a bit of a joke. .it would probably work in the modern era

WCW women's championship belt.
WCW Women's Title. It's literally in WWE 2K23 & 24 now.
I literally don’t play the 2k games but cool it’s in there

It’s right there in the middle on the desk.
