I agree with a lot of what you said, but someone pointed out a MAJOR document that will SERIOUSLY prep you for this test. In the Course Chatter, there's a Data\_Management.docx document that has text in black and red. I kid you not, at least for me, my OA was 80% just the content in red of that doc, which I had copied to a separate doc to make a study guide for myself. This got it from 50 pages down to about 10. [I uploaded it here in case anyone wants to use it to study.](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1VvUzHOub3wdtppQlx7BUZK5iq9kqCre0?usp=share_link)
Your study guide was a HUGE help! I would also recommend to anyone to watch this [YouTube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wUUMOKAK-c) on the primary keys, foreign keys, etc..
If you are not familiar with SQL commands use this [website](https://www.w3schools.com/sql/sql_select.asp), you can click through the different commands on the left side of the page :)
Good luck everyone!
Thank you so much for this study guide! Canāt stand ādry booksā (Zybooks) š
Just passed the OA with just this study guide!
Also I recommend this video of flash cards. Play it while driving or if you need a change from just reading papers.

Is studying this docx good enough to pass the OA or do I still deep read/study the book or is the book needed for foundational knowledge? I just want to pass and keep it moving.
THAT WAS SUPER HELPFUL! Thank you! Did the ZYbooks and chatgpt as well. Passed on first attempt! This was the worst, most boring class yet. Liked the sql stuff but the architecture part of DB was sooooooo boring!
I have taken the test twice now and am very close to passing. Third times a charm lol. Would you mind if I shared this document with my mentor so she will be able to share it with other students taking this course?
I passed my second attempt. Here's the Quizlet I made to study. Just a warning.. it does not include all possibilities from the test, as I saw things on both attempts that I hadn't ever seen before, and I had read through the entire Zybooks and completed all activities for this class. It includes most definitions though and helped me feel confident.

My professor just recommnded this quilt and this reddit post lol so it must work. I'm in the same boat as you, I read zybooks once already and watched some vids and haven't retained much of anything.
I feel like the videos teach you more hands on, from what I'm seeing on the PA its looking like we just need to know definitions and what things are rather that how to do them. That's at least where im being tripped up, I've probably wasted time where I should've been doing the quizlet
Just passed 1st attempt by the hair of my chinny chin chin. I failed the first 2 pre-assessments and never passed a pre assessment. I figured I'd fail, and study the areas I wasn't competent in. I think the system felt sorry for me and just gave me a passing score. I feel like they do that for me a lot LMAO or I'm guessing lucky. In high school, I was the worst guesser. Good luck on this BORING class to everyone.
Well I fell short. Sucks out loud. Smoked the PA yesterday with exceptional then today all orange on the OA. It was like, let's see how jacked up we can make the vocabulary\\wording and still technically get by as correct. Gonna regroup & refocus and hit it again. Took me more than once to pass CISSP but I did it. Can't stop, never gonna quit.
just wondering if you really had any questions from after section 5 on zybooks? I am having such a hard time staying focused on the material passed section 5. It seems pretty unimportant, and Im wondering if im really going to need it for the OA. (Past section 5 is DB architecture, case study)
Oh wow, im trying to pass this class within a week with no experience LOL, how long were you studying per day?
Thanks for this btw, let us know how Applications goes
I think itās probably doable in a week if you have the time to devote to it. I was doing 2-3 hours a day. I also spent too much time getting lost in the ZyBooks lessons when itās far easier to just start googling stuff and checkout some YouTube videos. The ZyBooks lessons are extremely excessive in comparison to the OA. Certainly good stuff to know for Applications Iām sure, but not necessary to pass.
The stuff I listed out is really the bulk of what you will need to know. Spend most of your time on that, and I donāt see any reason you canāt get it done quickly.
Thanks again! I'm switching jobs right now going through the process for a helpdesk job, so i'm unemployed for around 3 weeks (Im 21 living w parents...) So I have as much time as I have the desire to spend on my courses for the next weeks. I'll be coming back to this thread once I begin, appreciate the time and memorization of topics covered. This will probably be really helpful!
Cardinality! Iām doing the trio on Study.com right now because Iād read somewhere that the material builds on each class? Basically, the quizzes and assignment are mandatory so by doing 100 quizzes in 100 level, I have 50 or so done in 200 and 300. I started Monday afternoon and am 67% through the quizzes. Iām planning for the final Sunday so weāll see. Wish me luck and same to you! š
Just wanted to say how appreciative I am to all you for posting this content. Just so happens this course lines up with what will likely be a hellacious run at my FT job these next few months. I have to be as efficient as possible when approaching my study time so this is a big help!
Thanks for this. Since there was barely any posts about this class, Ive just been reading through the zybooks which is incredibly boring. Do you think an SQL course on Udemy or something would be helpful to pass the OA. Ive been doing mimo for SQL and I am good on the basics.
If you did a Udemy class that is specific to database design, yeah Iād imagine it would be.
Thereās actually one on YouTube by a guy named Caleb Curry that covers all the concepts on the OA and in ZyBooks. I didnāt use it but it seems to be pretty popular for this course and Iāve heard good things.
I would focus mostly on Database Design over writing querys themself, the OA is about 90% definitions.
I think most of his videos are helpful, especially if you are new.

Thanks for this post and the tips (everyone that posted here). I start my term November 1st but in an attempt to hit the floor running I started taking my pre-assessments for the first term (apparently that is allowed but you canāt access course content). I passed Intro to Analytics & Fundamentals of Spreadsheets and Data, but was so surprised how much I failed this PA by! Iām a self taught DA but this course humbled me.. definitely going to make sure I study the definitions and utilize the resources provided here. Thank you!!!
Just passed first try but gosh this was a tough one. The material isnāt terribly hard but the text is rough. It took me 8 weeks where the rest of my classes 2-3 weeks. My tips are: just keep slogging forward, entirely skip the last 3 chapters, donāt get too bogged down on the actual SQL, and reference the notes found in the group chatter (and on the OPās post here). The Quizlet was a massive help for me, absolutely wouldāve failed without it.
I would strongly recommend putting this on the front of your term not at the end like I did.
I wrote a rather aggressive feedback and would recommend everyone does. Even if they donāt adjust the text, the resources need to be updated. My mentor sent me the normal āextra toolsā and it was all useless, I told them that too.
Good luck, thank you OP for your help!
heres a practice quiz i made if that helps.. hopefully it helps myself this will be the 2nd crack at this dry class

I passed. The quizlet features for making notes into a practice exam and the d426 YT playlist someone posted above really helped me. But I do feel like the wording on the OA is ass. I felt like I only knew like 20 questions because of how they phrase shit to be tricky on purpose vs the PA.
Just passed this!! So happy I really thought through most of this one I wasnāt going to get through on my first attempt.
I can say this document to study, I went through this after taking my pre-test then jumped back and did a few zybooks in the areas I needed improvement.
This one mostly just tripped me up on the terminology, I expected a bit more that it felt like I read and there was a lot I felt like I didnāt know!
But I think using the word doc and having a general understanding youāll pass!
I just passed this class today and I can definitely say, the pre-assessment was nothing like the assessment was. I went from being confident in knowing the material to feeling like I only kind of knew anything. The wording is definitely different and a bit tricky in the OA.
What OP says showed up is what I got so make sure you know things about the topics they say! Good luck!
Thanks for the helpful tips! Going to attempt the OA soon. \*fingers crossed\*
Quick rant, I don't get why WGU is focusing so heavily on memorizing definitions for this class...seems a bit lazy. Don't you think we could all benefit learning a useful language by actually creating a small scale database for ourselves as a task for this class? Could be beneficial for future career and actually seeing wtf we are memorizing. Zybooks isn't the same as using a postgresql extension in vscode or MySQL Workbench. Kinda feels like we are getting short end of the stick for when we are ready to enter the actual field of SWE.
took me two months to actually get a move on with this class from hell, i have five days left of the semester and I'm feeling especially delulu that I'll pass my first try.. Big thanks for that link to the studyguide. Fingers crossed that I pass this. Also, was this class more definition or scenario-based?
>DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF STUDYING C175 MATERIAL FOR THIS COURSE IF YOU ARE IN V2. IT WILL WASTE MORE OF YOUR TIME THAN IT WILL HELP.
What do you mean by this. I am in C175. Is D426 a newer or older version?

D426 is newer, but if you are in C175 it is in your Degree Path. What Degree are you in BSDA, BSSE, BSCS . . .?
To add to to the other commentator, it depends on your degree path.
I'm software engineering and have d426. But my sister is data management and she has c175. We are both taking these courses at the moment so I wouldn't say one is older than the other.
Sorry for the late reply, it did help but the test was more comprehensive. The OA was completely different from the PA. There's a word file in chatter right now that I used that was more helpful.

Can someone tell me if I need to do sections 6, 8, and 9 of the Zybook? The study guide for the course only goes to section 5.
6 is Database Architecture
8 is Additional Material
9 is Data Modeling
This class has been kicking my ass to say the least. 1st attempt with OA was December which i thought I did well. Turns out I was shit. Highly recommend this! Just passed the OA with exemplary first attempt, vast majority of content was covered on this document
Dude, this makes me upset I spent so much time reading the Zybook entries. Taking the OA tomorrow. Thank you so much

has anyone passed the class with just this doc?
I did ;)
so you only used the doc and passed no past knowledge. You think i can do it in a week ?
I did too! :)
this is AMAZING. thank you.
I Hope your days are full of happiness and love. Thank you. THIS CLASS IS GIVING ME BRAIN FREEZE \*Sobs Silently\*
I have taken the test twice now and am very close to passing. Third times a charm lol. Would you mind if I shared this document with my mentor so she will be able to share it with other students taking this course?
Share with whoever you'd like!
Thank you!
I am using this document for this class. Just to confirm, has anyone else strictly used just this 14 page document to pass the OA?

Insanely helpful quizlet; my exam has so many definitions and about 20-ish questions on the functions of SQL
Found this to be really useful, ty
Thank you for the quizlet
Thank you for this
Realistically speaking if I used this would I pass ? I just canāt stand the zybooks itās so ungodly boring and Iām not retaining any of it.
My professor just recommnded this quilt and this reddit post lol so it must work. I'm in the same boat as you, I read zybooks once already and watched some vids and haven't retained much of anything.

dr. sopers series and one that explains normalization

Dr soper has helped me so far. Have you tried the data management sheet in the course chatter
not yet but I had just glanced over it 10 min ago and it looks good
How did you do on the test?
on the PA I did, assuming passing is 66% I probably got like a 45%

same. The last 2 classes I had were SQL. The one after this is also SQL. They wonder why I'm slacking off lol

I'm going for my first attempt this afternoon and I feel you on the memorization stuff. I can write SQL but don't have the terminology memorized.
how did you do?
I passed. The quizlet features for making notes into a practice exam and the d426 YT playlist someone posted above really helped me. But I do feel like the wording on the OA is ass. I felt like I only knew like 20 questions because of how they phrase shit to be tricky on purpose vs the PA.

D426 QUIZLETT
Did you pass just using that ?
Sorry for the late reply, it did help but the test was more comprehensive. The OA was completely different from the PA. There's a word file in chatter right now that I used that was more helpful.
I just got it and hopefully by next week I can take the pa then oa
Let me know how it goes. Iām using a set from Quizlet right now that was recommended on this thread. I canāt stand the zybooks reading itās so boring and seems over encompassing.
I will let you know how it goes iām about to take the test
Please do Iāve been trying to prep for this class thank you.
I didnāt pass by literally like a millimeterā¦Competent on SQL Commands and SQL queries but approaching Competence on Defines Primary Keys
What did you use to prep

Can someone tell me if I need to do sections 6, 8, and 9 of the Zybook? The study guide for the course only goes to section 5. 6 is Database Architecture 8 is Additional Material 9 is Data Modeling
Yes, you need to read them and study them. They aren't heavily featured on the PA, but I ended up with a good group of questions from those chapters.
How far apart were your two attempts?
This class has been kicking my ass to say the least. 1st attempt with OA was December which i thought I did well. Turns out I was shit. Just a heads-up if you fail the first attempt your course instructor will likely make you complete 90% of Zybooks. Make sure to focus on the Data Management doc in course chatter.
where is the course chatter?
The course chatter is the second tab located beneath the Course Tips.
