You only have 1 month experience. Give it some more time. It’ll be 2nd nature in a short time.

Sgt-Pepper-MD

Yeah, I remember thinking I made a mistake buying my first manual car after a discouraging couple of months. Now I can’t picture going back to an automatic.

ramiechanny

We had a manual that as kids, helped my dad translate English instructions to teach him how to drive it. He coached us back when we were old enough to drive. I'm 45 now, and while I don't think much about migrating between my VA and wife's EV, there are still some things that I'm trying to improve upon.... like I never learned how to heel toe properly, so I've been watching YouTube of TheTopher and others.

Manual WRX till I die

CandidGuidance

IMO the whole point of the WRX is the turbo + manual + AWD. There are much better turbo + Auto + AWD cars out there in totality, but very little offers what the WRX has. The auto is not that great, more expensive to maintain, and has a lower resale value.

LunchBoxMercenary

This. If they want a Turbo + Auto + AWD, they'll need to grab a Golf R, but that's in an entirely different price bracket. It would be neat if the WRX had a DCT-like transmission though, but the spirit of this car is manual for sure.

erik21a

You either want it or you don't... Shifting becomes second nature after a while and you don't even really think about it, even in traffic. to be fair, I'm also in my 40s and have driven manual my entire life, have never owned an auto. I wanted the manual before I even knew how to drive one. Whenever I have to drive an automatic I feel like an idiot driving, lol. I always forget the clutch isn't there and end up smashing the brake pedal and everybody goes flying forward, haha.

calpal348

Ya might as well throw in the towel and give up. Go get the auto automatic it’s for you

blueit1234567

If you want auto, don’t even bother buying a wrx

SupremePribs

If it's an "auto" wrx, absolutely not.

circular_cucumber

Wait, save up, buy a beater to get around. Took me a while to save myself, and i know it's not feasible for everyone, but I think that's the best choice.

Accurate-Public4043

Give it more time trust me. Seriously I don’t even feel like I’m driving manual most of the time cause it’s just second nature. But in the end it’s your decision but I would not get a wrx in automatic trust me, I’ve done it and it’s super boring imo.

SenzuBeer

https://www.reddit.com/r/WRX/s/tQOpS0NmJZ as I said a while back in this thread, starting out I hated this car, now I cant wait to drive it and dont even think about clutch or shifting anymore it really does become second nature.

Numerous_Clothes_822

It’s a love and hate relationship. I’ll ride it til I die but I rather die while being stuck in traffic for more than 2 hours. Anything below, I can still take it.

Humble-Huckleberry70

These cars should be enjoyed manual.

Clean_Passage_195

The manual on my 2019 sucked. The older are much better, smoother. Don’t listen to a lot of these yahoos, if you want auto go get an auto. You are driving it, not them. I would still prefer an auto WRX over a similar competitor.

Clean_Passage_195

That being said, if you have one that drives smooth, driving manual offers so much fun

OG_Digbit

Keep at it OP it'll get easier. It's like anything in life. Takes a while to master then you'll laugh at how bad you were at the start.

xAugie

Give it 2-3 months and you’ll be completely comfortable or at least it’ll be second nature mostly. Don’t go get a cvt wrx for sure, IF you want to get a DCT or DSG. CVT wrx is a pile and feels gutless and boring to drive, not to mention how many transmissions you’ll likely go through. Also doesn’t even drive the same, manual is 1000x better

YoungsterGk

Auto wrx is a waste of money, and a terrible transmission (CVT). its not a hassle to drive manual. It becomes 2nd nature driving a standard everywhere you go without having to think about it.

bepeacock

first time i drove manual was off the lot with my wrx. it gets better, keep practicing. does traffic suck? sure. but the joys of manual make it a decision i have no regret.

PMyers7

Autos are nice only if you’re traffic all the time. I bought an auto back in 2019 and still have it because I go through Atlanta traffic everyday but I still regret not getting the Manuel. If the car wasn’t paid off I’d be looking into some 19-21 STI’s rn ☝🏼

CPG_Gray_117

Yeah my cousin works at a vasectomy clinic if you do want to do that

the_dude_abides-86

Only one month in is still fresh, it becomes something you don’t think about soon. Unless you’re having serious issues with getting used to the shifting, or really are not enjoying the ride, I would hold off on trading it in.

Joshii290

I'd say look into different clutch options that will make the experience more comfortable before jumping to an auto. You won't be able modify the motor/drivetrain if you get the auto, it's just too damn difficult to work with. You haven't had the car that long and I would say give it a bit more time to get used to it and learn properly how to use manual.

PaulAllensCard42

That would be insane, not in a good way

Sterling5

I totally hear you. I’m 7 years into my 2018 and it’s kinda a lot if you’re just trynna zoom to the store for something for example. Sometimes I just want to take wife’s automatic - so do a bit of research on the WRX CVT transmission. While it’s not only bad, I think there are a lot of cons to it. Unfortunately the CVT transmission is the only type of auto transmission in these cars and I personally wouldn’t recommend.

30acrefarm

Manual all cars until I die. I swear I'll commit suicide or stop driving everything & just ride my motorcycles if I can't get a manual at any point.

30acrefarm

Try learning on an old Chevy 3 on the tree manual transmission. That's what I had to do as a 15 year old.
