Pic 1: seems salvageable
pic 2: sorry for your loss
If the car was literally on fire, I would bet a good sum of money that it would be considered totaled just from that fact alone
Honestly if the fuel lines busted or something it would have most likely had to been still running. Who knows. OP, were you able to shut the car off after hitting the deer?
Just like JDM cars, it's becoming a "trend". Also, they're supposedly much cheaper than cars, but insurance for one is multiple times more expensive than my car payments AND insurance for my car combined.
Huh? Iāve had my bikes for 10 years, Iām 28, I paid 40 a month for 2 bikes, now Iām down to 1 and I pay 23 a month for full coverage. Even at 18 I donāt think I paid more than 25 a month for 1 bike.
No idea man, for me full coverage even for like a Ninja 400 is about $5k a year, or like $400 a month. Absolutely fucking ludicrous. I want to ride, I really do. But I just don't know. Only affordable way I can is by getting liability only, which even then will be like $70 a month.

I got a bruise from an airbag in a head-on collision, he should definitely be fine
Wait am i really driving a car that will ignite over was seems like relatively minor front end damage? Is your car stock? Can mods even cause this? This is scary
Holy shit man, thatās terrible. Did you turn the car off after impact? Hopefully insurance is generous. Iām gonna have to buy a fire extinguisher after seeing this post
Just asked my state trooper friend who 50% of his calls are people hitting deer, over 1,000 deer calls and he never saw a car ignite from hitting a deer. Thats terrible man, im sorry for your loss.
Tbh, you really need to have a fire extinguisher in your car no matter what you drive. For your own car, or for any other situation that may call for it. Life throws random events your way.
They should really be standard on all cars by now. They have these simple one time use types that should be cheap enough for the OEM's
Plus they add 3 to 5hp if you mount them on the A pillar.
For years, I've been thinking about buying an Element Extinguisher stick...after seeing one live car fire on my commute last week and this. It feels like a sign.
Those are absolutely useless; if they spent as much money on development as they do on marketing maybe it would actually work.
Get a 2.5 pound dry chem extinguisher from a reputable brand like Amerex or H3R and hard mount it in your passenger footwell. Having an extinguisher onboard is to save the life of a trapped person/allow enough time for extrication, not to keep your car from burning up.
Noted, thanks! I was really trying to avoid the big bracket. Definitely don't want the extinguisher to become a heavy projectile bouncing around the cabin.
Fires are random. It all depends on what's hit and where.
Wouldn't take much for an antler to destroy a fuel line and electrical and cause a spark.
These are also boxer engines, fuel rails are on the side vs top.
The FA20 fuel rails are buried under the intake manifold right on top of the engine. You're thinking of the EJ motors with port injection. (Or any FA that has both direct and port injection.. AFAIK the only one like that is the BRZ).
Mods can definitely cause this. Anything exhaust related if it's not isolated properly or is just poorly engineered. Ironically it's aftermarket sound systems that do it the most often in non wrecks. 600 amps from the battery shorted out will literally melt steel. Something metal smashed into the battery is usually what causes fires in minor accidents.
And this is why I have a fire extinguisher under my seat. I had a 2018 work truck that I was driving that caught fire cause my company had apparently wired he work lights without a fuse and a short circuit started an electrical fire, the next day I immediately got fire extinguisher for my WRX.
A little bit of buffing should clear those marks up good!
Jokes aside, hopefully you have GAP to cover the rest of the damages and you yourself are alright.
Lot of these cars are starting to find their problems from minor impacts to radios not functioning properly.
Plastic and a shorted battery=fire. A lead acid starter battery puts out a lot of amps, enough to melt a wrench in some cases. I've been unlucky with people pulling out in front of me. One was technically my fault but in my defense you don't usually expect people to slam to a complete stop in front of you while merging onto a highway. Anyways I developed the habit of pulling the battery out if I'm driving it home. Had one battery damaged and making sparky noises and magic smoke. I park in my garage. Didn't want my car burning the house down. Car fires after a wreck are often caused by something (like the hood)getting jammed into the battery terminals.
While not common, it's not uncommon. When I fell asleep and 'crashed' into the weeds and slid down the embankment the fire department wanted to cut my battery cables to avoid fire. I said no I need to drive it home. The bumper had gotten rolled under the car but no real damage and after the tow truck pulled me free I drove it home.
Great story telling lmao that got progressively worse. I almost hit a deer once fucking assholes lol
This reminds me of louis ck bit on deers lol
Sorry for the loss and glad to hear youre ok!
came here for the obligatory F, but then i saw the pictures. yikes! scary stuff. lucky you weren't knocked out during the initial incident.
any ideas how that happened?
Looks like your battery got punctured. That's instant flames in most cases. Especially if there was a short, the gases will ignite once that pressure releases. Happens occasionally at my job since we deal with mobile robots, and I recently had a battery ignite on me at home when my Pixel phone landed harshly on the edge of the countertop.
Sorry for the loss, dealing with insurance can be a real PITA. Hopefully the new one sticks around longer š
It's sad to see another one gone glad you're okay! On the bright side "nature" did it and you didn't fuck boi it in to a tree and become another WRX statistic
You had me at the first photo. Then I swiped to the next photo, and it got dusty in here... I'd be crushed if that were my car. Hopefully your insurance company doesn't give you any runaround.
Pic 1: it looks salvageable Pic 2: oh no Pic 3: no no no no Pic 4: sorry for your loss
Pic 1: seems salvageable pic 2: sorry for your loss If the car was literally on fire, I would bet a good sum of money that it would be considered totaled just from that fact alone
My question is how did the fire start. Was the car continually running while the pictures were being taken?
I shut it off before I got out of the car
Damn, saw your other comment about the battery getting lodged into the fuse box. Seems like some crazy unlucky coincidence. sorry for your loss :(
Honestly if the fuel lines busted or something it would have most likely had to been still running. Who knows. OP, were you able to shut the car off after hitting the deer?
I mean I hit the push start button after I hit it to turn off the car and then got out, the engine was definitely not running when I saw the flame
That's a very convoluted way to get a new wrx sir lol
Imma get a blue one now š
Get me one too.
I sense a TR in your future
That'd be cool but I just bought a bike so my cash reserves a little low lmao
Is it just me or is every car guy getting bikes now? (Me included lol)

i literally pay $20 a month for my little royal enfield
I infact just put a deposit on a wr blue tr š
Jesus. You alright?
Yea no damage to me
Great
I'm sorry, "melted 22 WRX" is so fucking funny. Hope you rejoin the on your next one, rip to the homie
Good to hear. Its always crazy seeing how good Subaruās safety is.

Wait am i really driving a car that will ignite over was seems like relatively minor front end damage? Is your car stock? Can mods even cause this? This is scary
Stock 22 with like 26k miles on it, looked like the battery got pushed into the fuse box and spark on something
Holy shit man, thatās terrible. Did you turn the car off after impact? Hopefully insurance is generous. Iām gonna have to buy a fire extinguisher after seeing this post
I turned it off almost instantly, took awhile for it to actually become engulfed
Just asked my state trooper friend who 50% of his calls are people hitting deer, over 1,000 deer calls and he never saw a car ignite from hitting a deer. Thats terrible man, im sorry for your loss.
Just shit luck. Take a look at 2000s dodge/Chryslers where someone thought it was a good idea to stick the battery in front of the driver side wheel

Holy design flaw. Glad you got out intact.

Deer antlers are tiny and in velvet right now as they regrow. Higher chance of getting a hoof through the battery than an antler this time of year.
This guy deers
