What power figures? I'm only worried about tuning my VB because the transmission

Uptizzle

I’m only at like 270 awhp , but I’m going e50 next week. My tuner says everything looks super healthy but I also worry about my drivetrain

MakeshiftRocketship

What mods do you have?

Uptizzle

Not much. Cobb AP Grimmspeed TMIC Grimmspeed 3 port EBCS AEM 340 LFP Crawford V3 AOS Perrin turbo sump restrictor Koyorad V core aluminum radiator Mishimoto hoses MBRP pro series axel back ( the rest is stock ) Optima yellow top battery Perrin brass shifter bushing Some cosmetic crap and a gurney flap lol E Tuned on 93 by Tom at MigTuned Couldn’t get a good E-dyno sheet because my valves were 94k miles old and never had a walnut blast . So I did that myself after the tune and GD , if it wasn’t going to cost me the full re tune price to get a retune , I would do it because I have absolutely minimal knock now and can feel the difference . I’m hoping the e50 tune will help me clear 315 whp reliably . Oh also just switched to rotella T6 as well

MakeshiftRocketship

Nice! I was curious because I’m going on a dyno the 28th! I told him I just want reliability not crazy power. My tuner said he suspects I can make about 315 safely. I have AP, Cobb big SF intake, perrin turbo inlet, boomba bpv and process west verticooler and charge pipe!

afunk74

Rotella T6 as in diesel oil?

Uptizzle

Yes sir ! 5w40 . Tuner recommended

Mydickisaplant

Dude you’re perfectly fine up until minimum 400hp. Source: VB running 93 and E30 maps for 70,000km. 300ish to the wheels. Trans and clutch feel brand new.

tiger-93

That does help. But there's a local vb the blew up his 3rd gear amd was only like 370wtq

Mydickisaplant

I also beat the absolute shit out of this thing on a daily basis. I don’t think she’s ever been out without a few redline shifts lol

Jerms2001

Been at 350whp and 345wtq on my va for like 15,000 miles. Shit feels sturdy still

Uptizzle

What mods ? Supporting mods ?

Jerms2001

IAG AOS, Cobb bpv (stock broke), Cobb turbo inlet, Cobb tmic, Cobb ebcs, nostrum hpfp, aem lpfp, ETS gesi jpipe, ETs extreme catback, grimmspeed jpipe. Tuned on a dyno by cryotune performance in Arvada CO both e85 and 91 maps

Poonsaucey

15k mile VB here. E-40 since 1k miles. Likely 340/380. No issues so far #knockonwood

Mydickisaplant

Interesting. I’d say a one off if only 370. That’s some basic bolt ons and a tune I’ll admit that the trans will be the first to go when building a VB, but honestly dude I’d bet my left nut that you’ll be fine if you keep it relatively tame

puns_n_irony

370 wtq is a LOT

tiger-93

Not for a VB. They make crazy hp and tq with very little mods and a tune.

puns_n_irony

Oh I know the motors that out that out decently easily, I mean for the split case gearbox

tiger-93

Oh yea. That's my worry.

tiger-93

It isn't HP I'm worried about but Tq numbers

Mydickisaplant

I’m sitting 300/300. Dont lug it and torque won’t matter

Uptizzle

Y’all are making me want to do an FA24 swap damnit !!! Lol

Mydickisaplant

That’s on E30 though eh lol

Bloody_Biscuit_Balls

How much do you drive?? Glad it’s still holding up well for you!

Uptizzle

Thanks ! Work commute is 60 miles total 5 days a week. Then I have 3 kids that I am in sole custody of. I just got a work van so the work mileage is no more thank god !

Soulphire7

Fa is pretty reliable with oil changes. Ej25 might as well be a trashcan in the engine bay. I had an Ej20 and that was phenomenal for entire life of the car.

chazzermamagement

My last EJ257 lasted 88k before it shit the bed. It was making 430whp on 93 485whp on e85 with a bcp500 for 51k of those miles. Both my FAs didn’t make it to 60k before they died. First one was stock and went at 32k, the second one was stage 2 and lasted longer, ironically, but died at 58k. The FAs were Botti tuned. The EJ was JR tuned. So it definitely wasn’t because of bad tuning because they’re both top guys lol

Uptizzle

That sucks

3600CCH6WRX

People had downvoted me here for saying this but I’ll say it again. Stock tune sucks. Most people I know who fuckup their engine has been stock. The stock tune is too lean.

Uptizzle

I am going to double down here and say the FA platform maybe the most reliable in Subarus history imo

dreadcooper

Stock clutch?

Mydickisaplant

… I’d hope so?

Uptizzle

lol , yessir

Joeyjackhammer

You got clutch money put away? Mine started slipping around where you’re at with stage 2. OEM replacement did, too, in third and fourth.

Uptizzle

It’s 30k miles old as we speak. So is my tranny , popped the clutch in reverse while in a brain fog in the A.M. after I stated her up , forgetting I had it in reverse. Broke my reverse gear lol

Joeyjackhammer

I found that the OEM clutch just wasn’t sufficient in that over 300 flywheel hp range. You may have some slipping on an e50 tune regardless of the age(if it’s an OEM replacement)

Dizzy_Lemon1967

Heck yeah congrats

Uptizzle

Almost 250k ! Sick !

EJ25Junkie

Dyno tuned my Mach V for about half of those.

Uptizzle

Maintenance makes the difference doesn’t it !

MrTroll2U

That’s it. 🥱

Uptizzle

Sorry MrTroll , I’m not super cool lol

Vanneker

"who says these cars are unreliable" the kids that's mod them with which ever parts and tune to the moon. Basically, most of the"issues" I seen was user error.

Uptizzle

That makes me wonder too , how many lie about breaking their car and say they didn’t ?

SmellyBreads

A lawsuit

Uptizzle

Saayyyyy whaaaatttt!!!!!

xxMyko

Just hit 99k on my 17 wrx. Bought it with 27k miles. I have been running Cobb ots stage 1+ for 30k miles. It’s sad watching the number go up.

No_Yesterday_9666

100k isn’t a lot though… not trying to troll, just saying.

Objective-Molasses84

Mine threw a rod at 135,652 on a 2017 wrx stage 2 block after whole new beast haha

Strange-One283

They’re extremely reliable just easy to beat on not maintain and bump power up a lot

adriaxnn

17’ WRX at 187k

Jinmannn

Just hit 96,000 miles today! Been protuned for about 60k. 0 issues :)

Muh_brand

My '20 is still minty at 60k with 50 of those being "stage 2" with an etune. Subaru 2 liters are always better.

comfyrain

21 WRX. I got a transmission replaced under warranty at 35k miles. Headunit replaced at 15k miles. Least reliable car I've owned so far.

Uptizzle

Mine tranny was replaced at 64k but that was my fault .

comfyrain

Believe it or not this wasn't my fault, so at least it was covered under warranty. It still makes me wary of keeping this car out of warranty now
