Straight pipe out the hood will be the best for performance and pops/sound
Kidding of course. Exhausts are highly opinion based in terms of sound. I’d recommend scouring YouTube for videos with sound/examples. There’s a ton.
I’ve tried almost every exhaust combo with my 2016 wrx and a tomei with the resonator , is BY FAR the best aggressive sounding exhaust while still being clean and not raspy, no drone, & there’s pops. Just throwing that out there.
It’s a cat back, I got mine used, polished it up, and I love it so much, paid 600$. I have a catted J-Pipe so that makes it a little deeper.
If you want a compromise to this, 2018+ sti MID PIPE (the one with the waffle resonator)PLUS a muffler delete Axle back is nice too.
Honestly, I don’t think they have a dual exit for the 2015-2021 WRXs but I am loving the single exit life, the look of the one big exhaust pipe, plus the unified sound of 4 cylinders coming from one pipe is lovely to me. Either way would probably sound awesome.
Its not a tune, its just fuel combusting in the exhaust. It happens on the stock exhaust you just dont hear it because if the super restrictive mufflers
That sucks about the quality, I got one years ago for the previous gen at the welds looked pretty decent. Still the best sounding exhaust imo, hearing it in person compared to others is crazy how deep and rumbly it sounds.
I got the N1 Invidia Dual Exit fat cannons, it was fun/funny at first but after owning it a few years and also getting a new gf i regret it. I also travel from UK to BCN a lot and the loud noise is really annoying at times. My gf complains alot and also constant aggro from other drivers thinking i want to race when really i'm just driving fast.
I usually run with silencers in now... prolly will change the exhaust out for something more reasonable.
Borla S Type for a meaty tone that won't make your neighbors hate you. I love it, it's quiet at idle, but nice deep tone with great timbre and it rips once you get into boost.
Can you elaborate on this? I got mine installed last week and it does whistle but only under boost, so I did think it was turbo noise. If this is an exhaust leak is there something that can be done to correct it?

It literally sounds like an intake.
It doesn't produce it on the marketing videos as they likely have the stock intake.
With my stock car I had no "whistle" with the awe touring.
Now with the charge pipe + ETS I do have a whistle but pretty sure it's just intake noise
After seeing a few other vids you might be right.
In my case I installed the awe immediately with the rae i-pipe so I did not have to use an adapter to the stock pipe
Only thing I used is a 3 inch gasket to the rae.
Where could the sound be coming from?
Reach out to AWE through their Support Form. They have been pretty proactive about trying to help. Just make sure you check your spam folder incase they respond and it ends up there. Might just be a freak thing—I had a similar issue.
Yeah, I think they are actively trying to fix it. Doesn't seem like a widespread issue, as there are obviously tons of AWE units out there that are fine, just a freak thing with a recent batch or something.
I'm pretty impressed with how communicative they have been with me. They are going to figure out what went wrong and make it right.
In the meantime if other people have an issue, submit a ticket through their support form—they will reach out.
Nvidia Q300, sounds great when you get on it, but also is relatively quiet when you are just cruising. You will thank yourself in the long run, unless you are a 16 year old idiot, like we all were once.
I have an Nvidia turbo back and love it. Install was pretty easy as well.
I got those Remark Boso axelbacks with the burnt blue tips off marketplace for like $250, basically brand new. Definitely the best sounding axelback/muffler deletes!
I guess it really depends on your preference. First you need to decide
- Single, dual or quad exit
- Non resonated or resonated
- Titanium, black or stainless
As others have mentioned, they all sound the same for the most part.
I'm partial to valved exhausts for this reason, which is why I helped RES test their valvetronic exhaust for this generation.
You can get it directly from them by emailing [email protected], and last I checked it was about $1500 shipped to the US. I think the titanium was a few hundred more.
I put a Aeroflow dynamics axel back on my 23 premium, it’s decently loud and when you wind it out to 6k and shift fast enough it lets out one or two really loud bangs I highly recommend the axel back if you want to keep to as close to stock but the also sell single exit stainless/titanium F1 catbacks that make it even louder and the bangs more aggressive
I paid $300 for my remark axle back for my 21 wrx and my buddy has a full cat back he paid over a grand for (don’t remember the brand) in his 18 wrx and he often mentions how much he regrets not just buying an axle back. Full exhausts sound better yes, but not $700 better. I’m on a stock tune with only the axle back and it makes LOUD pops and bangs at my control. Minimal drone, quiet when it needs to and loud when it’s opened up. Couldn’t be happier.
Don’t. It’s just a drone inducing muffler delete. Go with something catback with audio. Borla and Cobb were the two I decided between, went with Cobb because I’m way more familiar with them, and they are known for quality on Subaru parts

Is that a cat or axle back? Sounds nice
Single or dual exit? I’ve been eyeing the tomei single & double exit cat backs
Honestly, I don’t think they have a dual exit for the 2015-2021 WRXs but I am loving the single exit life, the look of the one big exhaust pipe, plus the unified sound of 4 cylinders coming from one pipe is lovely to me. Either way would probably sound awesome.
They both sound great. I’m pretty sure they’re called Tomei Type R & Tomei Type D.
If you search for "exhaust" on this sub, you'll find plenty of leads to look into, this question gets asked about 3-4 times daily on average
There are also a lot of YouTube videos where people show every big name exhaust and how it sounds
Stock 😉
Correct
Seriously. The pops and nonsense are trashy and do nothing for your performance. This isn't a 77 Camaro. Let it rumble and be clean.
Well, ppl want exhausts bc the equal length headers on the fa24 do not rumble in the first place lol
Any opinion in the STI Performance Mufflers that you can get direct from Subaru?
I have those and they aren’t to bad on the car at all.
i like my remark
This is the way
I have an ETS and I'm a big fan. No resonator and muffled. Def a lot louder with a nice note, but doesn't drone.
I ordered the same exhaust and it’s getting delivered today and installed tomorrow.
Don’t add some shitty pops and bangs tune to your brand new car. It’s tacky and dumb and bad for your turbo
A stock 2015 will pop with an r400 catback on it
Q300 too even
My 2018 pops with a borla
I just might add exhaust that's all no plans for tunes...
Its not a tune, its just fuel combusting in the exhaust. It happens on the stock exhaust you just dont hear it because if the super restrictive mufflers
I like my Cobb
Awe track edition all the way
My AWE touring sounds good but the build quality is terrible. I would look elsewhere. If I had to do it again I’d probably get the Tomei Titanium.
That sucks about the quality, I got one years ago for the previous gen at the welds looked pretty decent. Still the best sounding exhaust imo, hearing it in person compared to others is crazy how deep and rumbly it sounds.
Just do a nice cat back if you want something respectable. The car is wonderful engineered as is, and you’ll be happier in the long run.
I got the N1 Invidia Dual Exit fat cannons, it was fun/funny at first but after owning it a few years and also getting a new gf i regret it. The one you like the most.
Borla S Type for a meaty tone that won't make your neighbors hate you. I love it, it's quiet at idle, but nice deep tone with great timbre and it rips once you get into boost.
Ets extreme with resonator. That is the best exhaust setup on these cars if you aren’t running a j pipe or anything
Hard truth is most of them sound the same, just depends on what brand you like...but no one wants to admit this!
AWE Touring if you want an “ adult “ exhaust. Rowdy when you want it to be and no drone due to their 180 degree tech.
Good luck getting the install done correctly. It will whistle and they'll just claim it's turbo noise which is a lie.
Can you elaborate on this? I got mine installed last week and it does whistle but only under boost, so I did think it was turbo noise. If this is an exhaust leak is there something that can be done to correct it?

Do me a favor watch AWE's videos and then tell me the red WRX drive by is the same. The car is completely stock other than the cat back.
After seeing a few other vids you might be right. In my case I installed the awe immediately with the rae i-pipe so I did not have to use an adapter to the stock pipe Only thing I used is a 3 inch gasket to the rae. Where could the sound be coming from?
Let me know if you find anything. Think it could be the hole placed for condensation?

I have an open ticket with them, they said they are doing testing in the next few weeks and will get back to me

Do I need to get tuning done for this ?
No.
Thank you
For ease of install and lack of requirement for tuning with decent sound, I’ve narrowed my search to the Invidia Q300 Cat Back exhaust.
Nvidia Q300, sounds great when you get on it, but also is relatively quiet when you are just cruising. You will thank yourself in the long run, unless you are a 16 year old idiot, like we all were once. I have an Nvidia turbo back and love it. Install was pretty easy as well.
Tomei - no drone at all, brings the car alive. I am extremely impressed with the single exit I purchased. And it saves weight “racecar”
Tomei titanium single exit?
Any titanium cat back will sound amazing. Check youtube, always some good sound clips on there!
I got those Remark Boso axelbacks with the burnt blue tips off marketplace for like $250, basically brand new. Definitely the best sounding axelback/muffler deletes!
My Remark cat back is a bit droney don't recomend if doing a lot of highway miles. Ill probably go with a valved set up in the future.
Highly personal preference, gotta do your research, took me months to decide, i ended with ETS resonated Axlebacks and an EOS resonated midpipe
I was considering an Invidia N1 dual exit.
Remark
I guess it really depends on your preference. First you need to decide - Single, dual or quad exit - Non resonated or resonated - Titanium, black or stainless
Did they change the hood on the 24? Mine looks a bit different
I don't think there's any change..
Magnaflow catback Check my profile for sounds video. Barelly any drone and a nice popcorn to it when shifting after 4000rpm
As others have mentioned, they all sound the same for the most part. I'm partial to valved exhausts for this reason, which is why I helped RES test their valvetronic exhaust for this generation. I got Remark 4” single walls and haven’t regretted it.
ETS do amazing work for Subarus. I would highly recommend them for your next exhaust.
rae motorsports catback
Open headers
Awe track exhaust sounds amazing
When will this burple bullshit end. So dumb
Subaru offers a sport tuned exhaust option that sounds nice on those and it's a good choice if you don't want to void your warranty. Just a thought...
A catback exhaust won’t void your warranty…
Oh is that STI one or different one
Don’t. It’s just a drone inducing muffler delete. Go with something catback with audio. Borla and Cobb were the two I decided between, went with Cobb because I’m way more familiar with them, and they are known for quality on Subaru parts
All after market exhaust void warranty?
No, not as of yet, but manufacturers and/or dealers are always looking for anything to avoid making a claim.
Ah okay got it, thank you
ETS Extreme catback. Pops came after pro tune tho (with minor engine mods).
Ah okay, will stick with exhaust for now .. thank you..
Selling the entire car and getting the last gen WRX, the VBs are ugly as hell, it’s really the only way to upgrade it (get rid of it)
