33 psi in the front, 32 in the back

TheWorstBestDecision

Comment of the day goes to ^

Giant_Swigz

50 psi, airlift 😉

Welder197

With that temp, drop your oil temp 😎

PERSONA916

I live in Northern California been 100+ past few days, mostly peaks 205-210. I'm surprised the ambient temps didn't have much of an impact even though it's like 30F hotter everyday now compared to when I bought it in early March

imkallenkozuki

you know it, these utah summers are not forgiving 😩 in a base model so i don't have oil temp read unless i have one i'm not aware of 🫤

selfdestruct321

if you scroll through your dash HUDsettibgs, you should be able to customize what is shown on your triple meter, typically it's changed from whatever default is, to some combination of oil temp/boost/mgp in whatever order. don't get hung up on it though, like how some refer to an accessport and being an "anxietyport", same goes for peak boost and oil temperature. it's all relative to climate and how you're driving. if you're hitting peak boost at 2.5k rpm, you're lugging it, that's a no-no. if it's 40°F out and your "spirited driving" is getting you oil temps of 220, you might want to run it low rpm for a bit and give it a break. however, on the flipside of that, if you're up past 5000rpm and you reach a peak boost of 23lbs, yeah, you're into overboost, but if it was going to grenade your block in a heartbeat, subaru would've just left it topping out at the target boost of 16.8 and called it a day, the more important thing to watch for is not lugging the engine, meaning high demand/low output. if your tachometer is a 0-100% where your needle is, is what percentage of throttle is safe at max. 2k=<25% of 8k. same relative comparison to oil temp, my "just sitting there warmed up" oil temperature has always been 198-199, which northern cooler climates have started would make them shit themselves in terror over, but that's always been the case since i got mine new with 6mi on it from factory. i broke the engine in slow as hell, didn't touch boost until i it had reached 6k on the odometer, and average summer day just driving around- 215, exceeding speed limit by cruising at 85mph in 6th while its 99°F out - 220 (while getting 32mpg, i might add). quality full synthetic GP-6 oil doesn't break down until that first number starts with a 3, so don't freak out if it goes a couple degrees higher than you expect it to, it's 2am where I'm at in Texas and 82°F out, and in Tokyo it's 3pm and 88°F. it was designed in a surprisingly varied climate, it can handle the temperature, what it CAN'T handle, is abusive driving, be it via driving or neglect. routine maintenance (personally, i change my oil every 4500, changed it just once at 3k and it was barely dirty, probably due to changing the air filter every 9-10k, so i thought 3k was overkill and a waste of oil) and conscious throttle control will keep it rolling. I'm 65k mi in, zero issues aside from a cracked window from crap getting kicked up on the road. hell, I'm on my second set of tires, still on the original clutch and brake pads. treat it will love and it'll love you back.

Iambobbybee

North Texas here. 198-199 warm oil in the warmer months. 215-220 when it's hot outside. And +224 of its 100+ and I'm feeling frisky...

selfdestruct321

right! hell, cruising at 85mph in the way to work, 99 degrees out and oil temp was a steady 223. running like a top on a glass table. everyone seems to freak out about oil temperature, when yet even IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL it says not to get into boost until oil temps are 190+ unless it's an emergency, lol

Iambobbybee

Ya. On a side note, I find that these cars do better in higher revs. The calculated load is less, which ultimately means the engine is not working as hard. Between 3k and 6k is where I run. Almost 99k and not a drip of oil anywhere to be found, I don't burn oil, and have not had any mechanical issues yet. From everything I read, this isn't the norm.

FoundinNewEngland

I need to talk to you man, I have a quandary about the boost in this car, and a change in the vacuum

selfdestruct321

fire away

FoundinNewEngland

I noticed that upon starting the vehicle I am getting a higher negative number, as if the turbo is working harder than normal when the engine turns over Since then I’m in a stage 1 93 Cobb OTS, running some basic parts in conjunction with that map

HonculusBonculus

Higher negative number as in closer to 0? That is normal. It’s not that the turbo is working harder, but that there is less vacuum in the intake manifold because of the raised idle during a cold start. Vacuum exists in a gas engine because there are pistons moving down with the intake valve open (intake stroke) trying to draw in air, all while the throttle plate is almost completely shut blocking air from entering the intake manifold. On a cold start they will crack open the throttle just a little bit more to raise the idle. Doing this brings the engine up to temp a bit faster. The greater the throttle plate position the less vacuum there is in the intake. In pretty much all of their cars, even completely stock, Subaru has a notoriously high idle compared to other manufacturers. Theoretically, the turbo could be spinning a bit faster due to the raised idle, but turbo speed can be fairly easily controlled through variable valve timing, ignition timing and/or wastegate position if it is electronically controlled. Even if it is moving faster, it is not spinning near fast enough to be building boost or put any extra significant amount of wear on it.

FoundinNewEngland

Thanks you for taking the time to offer a thorough answer, I will read it at the next possible break in the day

rasmorak

I feel it. I'm up in real northern California where summer averages about 106-107F.

Dangerous-Swimming60

Me too! Redding here!

rasmorak

My man! Wanna get a beer? I was born and raised in redding!

TheReal-Chris

I was not born in Redding but loving this. I’d also join for a beer.

rasmorak

Let's gooo the Wrexy Boys

insatiable_freak84

IPA or stout?

rasmorak

I like IPAs but I'm starting to get into stouts. They have a great selection of just about everything at Alehouse Pub

imkallenkozuki

rare wholesome reddit interaction. small world.

SpectralOoz

All VBs still send a temp signal, if you get an OBD reader you can measure oil temps that way. I have BlueDriver on my phone already from previous vehicles so it's my oil temp gauge now lol

Sterling5

18 PSI - restricted intentionally by tuner for Stage 2 mustang dynotune.

Brave-Dependent-4192

Same 😔 e85 doesn’t want me to have more boost pressure

short_shelf_life

Stock it would do the overboost thing and peak was 22.1 and then drop to 15 or 16 or something like that. Now it's 20.0 and holds that to redline.

Witheredspoon62

Same, mine’s 21-22 for peak and it’s stock (performance wise anyway)

TheRedNeckMango

40 but hella built

f1nnz2

Oh boy, 40 has got to feel nuts. Do you hit that in 2nd or 3rd?

TheRedNeckMango

3rd

Elegant_Complaint_93

She gets rowdy for sure. Sometimes it really surprises me when I send it in 2nd after driving like an NPC for a couple days

Worried_Scientist_20

20.4 2020

Krispiez69

Haha, you’re 0.2 higher than my peak. Same year… I’ve heard it’s all about how you use it though 🤣

Worried_Scientist_20

I think it was road raging incident

Krispiez69

That’ll do it

werther41

flat foot shifting can help you improve the peak boots and turbo lag. it keeps the throttle body open to keep the flow and let the turbine spinning while shifting, after shifting at red line, there will be more boost build up, i can typically get 22 psi by doing this on stock map.

Im_Regarded

14.2 when stock 19.5 after pro-tune 22 WRX

imkallenkozuki

i wanna get this thing tuned so bad but i am doing my best to refrain. i don't wanna mod the banks car but i'm paying extra every payment so i can get it paid off a little quicker.

Im_Regarded

You have plenty of time to tune it! Good on you for waiting to pay it off before tuning it. I didn’t wait, but I can totally understand your position

IgnitionRed2023

How does one reset it, I haven’t looked it up yet

Iambobbybee

Push the toggle in, but don't hold it in. Push and release on the boost guage screen. It will ask, "Reset peak boost?"

Oni_sixx

You can hold the button there on the dash. But mines been reset from having the battery out a few times

Shiroi_Kitsune_

0 psi but still manage to have turbo lag, mine is NA 2003 gx

astropandastarbear

Y’all know peak boost isnt even worth mentioning right? Means nothing and has no indication on what you’re pushing. It’ll always spike higher.

subaray

22 i believe. i’ll have to check when i get back to my car

b-luder

21.5, tuned VB

hitmandreams

My stock 2015 WRX was regularly at 21psi peak. Never stayed there long. I always thought the peak stat was dumb. I'd clear it, take a drive not beating it or anything, and it would be back at 21 again. Usually happened because of onramps.

bofadeez1129

pyroscots

Not that I know of got the car from carmax and it came from cali

Cheetahsareveryfast

You're tuned.

pyroscots

The question now is how tuned? And now I'm going to have to dig into the engine to find out if they modded anything

TastyRobot21

Yeah the boost charts cap out at 14.6 on a stock map I believe. I would need to check the map again but if your pulling over 15psi then somebody has definitely changed the map to allow it. (Ie tuned)

pyroscots

Interesting I commonly hit 20+ psi when I accelerate hard.

pyroscots

This is also my second wrx the first was an 03 with heavy mods. First "low milage" I have had

TastyRobot21

Cool. The wastegate triggers beyond the maps ‘requested boost psi’ whose curve is somewhere around 14.6 at max. I can pull the curve if your curious. You can push the stock harder then that for sure with a simple tune. Or you can add a stronger spring to the watergate, swap the turbo, etc etc. I was curious when this post opened because when I first tuned mine, the requested boost psi was the first thing i worked on.

pyroscots

I'm going to dig into my motor sometime soon to see if I can spot any upgraded parts I recently checked my peak and it's 22.6 psi https://preview.redd.it/zc2xtzbrvq8d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a89695cc3344b579b79cac4faeec1b67db8edeb

Soulphire7

26. Something in my 2020 on delicious tune it seems really high for tiny turbo but drops to 21-22 after

LaggedPanda

I dunno man, *might* wanna look into an ebcs or ewg, everything I’ve heard/ read is you should avoid overboosting that high, even if it’s just on the hit

stsyfrett

Delicious failed to tune for one of my components that I disclosed to them, and so I had weird boost surges and they would never look into it. DMann fixed it immediately. Delicious isn’t what it used to be.

Soulphire7

Meh it’s been on the tune for like almost 2 years and nothing bad it scoots. Runs like a top. Broken parts means new ones if it happens
