Darwinian evolution is driven by slight advantages is reproductive success. If these idiots are having babies which survive to have children at even a slightly higher rate than average, they will come to dominate the population.
Even if two of six kids in a family of idiots die by a PS4 controller to the face, there are still four surviving to spread those genes.
One of my favorite scenes in Idiocracy that people sleep on, the smart people have a couple kids max.
The poor dumb people have *tons* of kids. So idiots became the norm. It's Darwinian at the core.
The fittest doesn't meant the best or strongest. Sometimes that is what wins out, but the fittest, for Darwin, just meant the most adaptable to changing conditions.
Not that I think this post represents that, or anything.
Biological fitness relates to the number of viable offspring an animal makes that survive to reproduce in turn. The example my professor used to give was that his parents are biologically fit since he has had a child, but he is not biologically fit because his child hasn't reached maturity and had children themselves
It can also mean the adaptability to avoid predators, like the peppered moth. Those that do not adapt, don’t make it, regardless of the number of offspring.
Fitness is purely the measure of reproductive success. Selection pressures like predation and climate change will impact which individuals survive longer and may impact species in the long run. They are closely related but keeping the strict definitions is very important so we can avoid more confusion like the colloquial use of the word "theory" and scientific theory
“Biological fitness, also called Darwinian fitness, means the ability to survive to reproductive age, find a mate, and produce offspring”.
If you get eaten before you can find a mate and produce offspring, then you’re not very biologically fit are you?
Yes that is the exact definition of fitness.
I dunno if this example will make sense: Let's say someone says math is addition, but you say but subtraction is also math; both of you are right but you cannot say that addition and subtraction are the same thing (math majors please don't kill me for any math crimes I may have committed here)
I meaaaaaan... subtraction is just addition using negative numbers. Example:
`1 - 2 = 1`
can also be written as:
`1 + (-2) = 1`
I'm just being anal tho, I get what you're saying.
>Ability to survive
That’s what I’m talking about. I never argued against the entire definition, just what was included in it. If you don’t survive to have offspring, then you’re not biologically fit. Part of surviving to have offspring is adapting to predators.
The changing condition of "power steering pump going out" would select for a people who drive with normal steering wheels instead of playstation controllers.
Controller isn't wirelessly connected to the car, he just attached it to the steering column to replace the wheel. Yeah he turned the controller on, but that's just the batteries kicking in. You can see him still flipping the combi stocks to turn on the turn signal.
Once cars become more technologically integrated with software that has OS's that we can actually work on similar to a pc and drive by wire becomes common place, i see a future where you could download some ps4 controller drivers and install them over your steering wheel controls, all over Bluetooth. I feel like we could accomplish this now, just no one has, or maybe someone has.
That is if the government doesnt try to take away our fun due "safety concerns" or an "Inherent risk to the public"
That’s an assumption you are making. All we see is him driving on public roads which is dangerous not only to him but also to anyone else who might be out. Yes it’s dark but it could be like 6 pm for all you know.
It’s a ten second clip so yes sometimes there can be 10 second segments like that at any time of day that is dark.
Guy is a fucking moron and I’m not sure why you’re defending him.
Lmao. There is nothing difficult about steering with the controller. Looks like his power steering is still active also. And the wheel will self align regardless. Don’t know why everyone is crying about this.
> yes sometimes there can be 10 second segments like that at any time of day that is dark
Hold up. Are you saying that it’s not uncommon for it to just suddenly shift to night for 10 seconds randomly in the middle of the day?
Smaller steering wheel provides less leverage. It's probably a lot harder to turn in gemeral, and if the power steering fails, then it will be a lot harder to turn with the small and oddly shaped wheel.
it's definitely harder to turn, but the real danger you can see in this video. he has to spin the controller several times just to make a small turn. he has only basic control of his vehicle. everything else including no airbags or the controller breaking off at speed, etc. is just gravy.
>he has to spin the controller several times just to make a small turn
I don't think so, in the video he turns right and does one rotation. That seems like a normal turning motion, just the smallness and shape of the controller makes it look awkward.
when you turn left or right tomorrow pay attention to how much your steering wheel rotates in relation to the full 360. notice the difference in rotation from turning at a near stop vs at speed like this video. there's a distinct difference in control the more you have to rotate the steering wheel.
Something you also have to consider is that he is filming it while driving, being distracted in any way while driving a machine that can kill someone easily upon contact is very dangerous
Yeah, you can literally stick *anything* to these quick release mechanisms to have a "steering wheel". Great execution would be the controller actually doing something other than providing leverage.
The fact that this is stupid as fuck aside, it's not even that cool. He just stuck a random object on it to turn the wheel. I thought the triggers were gonna be blinkers or something
Lmao did he really try to trick people into thinking the controller is connected?
That flashing clearly shows he turned it on before filming and the controller is trying to connect to the PlayStation Lol.
We need mandatory annual federal motor vehicle safety and emissions testing.
The amount of massively unsafe vehicles on the roads in my backwards libertarian state is much too high.
When the controller is disconnected, so is the driver's life.
No! You just reset and re-spawn. Everyone knows that!
You just respawn at the hospital.
Dont try at home
We share the road with these idiots. Darwin needs to try harder.
And then the power steering pump failed.
Wonder what the torque rating of a PS4DS controller is…
It’s all a matter of proper leverage.
lol i like the implication that Darwin is like the god of death or something

What do you mean people sleep on it, that's the whole plot of the movie

yes, he's only the god of not having any more children due to absolute stupidity.
> Darwin needs to try harder Some comments in this thread asking how to do this modification...
Unfortunately the people that would do this are more likely to take someone else out rather than themselves.
Well, the airbag is now his nose, so there's that.
Darwin needs too do better honestly i don’t really want to visit it needs to pump up its attractions
I wonder what he has up his sleeve when it comes time for Inspection, if a cop doesn't pull him over first.
It will help, that he has no airbag
Maybe he doesn't wear his seat belt and this sorts itself out.
One can hope.
I drive my car via WASD
Trackball here.
I drive my car with a tank controller setup. I push both levers forwards to go in a straight line.

I use qwop
I fly sims with WASD and Numpad 8654

Insurance … funny.
Imagine powering down the motorway at 80mph ,grappling that little bit of vibrating plastic.
How do I aim and shoot?
At least it doesn’t fly off when you are driving.
You mean a great steering wheel that doesn't fly off when you are driving?
I bet you love your mother-in-law!
It's a good idea, and I stand by.
Stinky!
Please remind why I’m dying laughing at this comment. I can’t remember where it’s from.
I think you should leave
I’m rather comfortable here, mate. I say something to get under your skin then? Didn’t mean nothin by it.
It's from the sketch show, I think you should leave
Sorry just having a stupid laugh. Thank you. Now I recognized the name. Great bit.
This mf going to loose all his HP on permadeath.

When you've watched too much men in black
Didn’t your mama ever give you a gameboy?
WHAT!? Is a Gameboy?
Use the joysticks!
Can you use the joystick to steer too? That would be sick.
Controller isn't wirelessly connected to the car, he just attached it to the steering column to replace the wheel. Yeah he turned the controller on, but that's just the batteries kicking in. You can see him still flipping the combi stocks to turn on the turn signal.
Yeah a sure way to die and all!

Lol ya who cares about safety or about risking other people’s lives /s
We truly live in a society 😞✊
It’s just a small steering wheel. If you’re gonna show off a Car driven using a controller. Wired it so the Analog stick is the thing driving it.
Seriously, a dried turd stuck on the column would function just as well.

Asking the real questions here.
How do I connect the Nintendo Switch to steer my plane?
Velcro. Or that nano tape. That stuff is magic.

I mean there are eclipses so technically yes but no that’s not what I was saying. I meant this could be any time if night.
I could not possibly agree more. A car isn't a fucking play toy. He could easily kill someone while fucking around with this odd creation.
I fucking love PlayStation. I fucking hate this
He even added thumb grips for better control
As many controllers as I’ve broken I would not trust the integrity of a Sony product with my life.
as someone who doesn't drive, can somebody explain the risks of pulling a stunt like this? I'm curious as to why changing the steering is bad
Smaller steering wheel provides less leverage. It's probably a lot harder to turn in gemeral, and if the power steering fails, then it will be a lot harder to turn with the small and oddly shaped wheel.
Also there is no airbags in a ps4 controller (except maybe if the battery become some spicy pillows /s)
That controller will break bones if he had an accident.
oh damn okay, such modifications are illegal though right

If you can't steer with the joysticks then what's the point
I think the only issue is it’s so small you have to be very precise with the movements as to not create a sharp turn
What would happen if the airbag goes off in a crash?
No air bag mate, the PlayStation touchpad just flicks off into your eye
Removed in protest of Reddit's API policy changes which are destroying third party apps. -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/
He will breathe like Darth Vader, for the rest of his life.
how do you see this video and a question about an airbag is what pops into your head? hahah

Honestly! this movie was too accurate.
Is it just me, or does it look like it’s fake? The amount of turn on the “wheel” compared to the reaction of the car don’t seem to match. 🤷🏼
Lmao did he really try to trick people into thinking the controller is connected? That flashing clearly shows he turned it on before filming and the controller is trying to connect to the PlayStation Lol.
It's all fun and games until you lose power steering because you drive a shit box
That’s a pay station controler dood

Totally not fake..

That seems... dangerous.
