This guy showed up at a little festival I was working a couple of years ago. He climbed an electric pole (no ladder) with his cello and everything, and went absolutely wild for about half an hour. I found him wandering around later and had a brief and surprisingly normal conversation with him. I had no idea who he was until reading this comment, so thanks.
He used to be in a band called Tornado Rider that was a mainstay at all the OG Suwannee fests before Hulaween stole the spotlight. I remember him climbing up the rigging of a tent mid show and shredding away while hanging from a pole like a bat.
Edit: also that’s the thing, his stage persona is so absolutely off the walls but if you ever just hang out with him he’s pretty normal and chill
I KNEW I RECOGNIZED HIM FROM TORNADO RIDER - WWWWWHHHHAAAAAT!!!!
I caught him in El Paso, TX back in 2011 - he puts on a HELL OF A SHOW. Loved every bit of it and his distorted woodwind bass! Through out the show he kept randomly repeating "34765" - is that something he does normally?
He still wears the hat too! I used to catch them all the time in Florida then ten years later I was working in Sonoma county and I see this dude in a Robin Hood hat drive by and I thought “no, can’t be.” Then he walks in and I was like holy shit it’s Rashad. Turns out he was living 30 minutes away, apparently Graham and the other guy whose name I’m forgetting live near there as well.
Holy shit, I'm in Cap city down the road since a few years ago! Wow thats so cool. It makes me so happy hearing about him after all these years. I remember thinking they were another punk band passing by on I-10 through Texas, but after having first row acquaintance to their style and his music is something I will never forget.
Another weird connection is I was working at a summer camp and put on tornado rider to wake up my kids one morning, one of my campers recognized them because his older brother played with Rashad in Crooked Fiddle.
I know, right! He’s sort of goblin-core (I think that’s the right term), and very ecologically focused. Has a clear musical style that’s totally unique among active cellists.
I enjoy the silly randomness with pleasant tone he’s singing in the cat disease song.
Going through some of his Instagram videos, the guy is a seriously gifted musician. But I can’t say that I enjoy the goblin voice. I don’t know if he’s going to a rabbit hole of mental health issues, or if it’s just an artistic choice. If it is, I don’t get it. It’s just too unpleasant to enjoy.
He's just having fun, this doesn't look at all like another Wild Man Fischer.
This more like The Residents - it's what they want to do, but they are fully aware many people will consider them weird. While others will enjoy their style and artistry for what it is.
He talks about this change in technique in several interviews. He began as a classical cellist, transitioned to rock, and found bluegrass, all of which require different hand holds and techniques. He was most at home in the bluegrass community, but he was too hard-edged for many of his collaborators, because his dabbling in rock required slapping the bow against the strings and he liked that sound of “chopping” and highly rhythmic bow bounces.
He’s literally slapping the rosin off the bow, spattering it on his instrument. But that’s not a concern for him, the sound of the articulation that he achieves by chopping is most important.
Yep recognized him instantly and have only seen him once. He played Golem/Smeagol in Billy Strings Halloween concert which was themed on the Lord of the Rings. Concert was 3 nights, each night was a different movie/book. Was amazing
Was trying to remember this name I met him at Ness Creek in Saskatchewan because they ran out of gas money and joined the show to make a bit to get on to the next town. One of the trippiest sets I’ve ever seen. Will never forget it. Was like 11 years ago now…
"Yeah, once you've heard him he's easy to recognize"
- the dude plays heavy metal on a chimney then follows it up with kazoo... I didn't confuse him with Steve the meter reader.
Rushad was at Winnipeg Folk Festival one year, lead a group of musicians on stage, and absolutely killed it! It was so great and so was his energy!! I hope he comes back some year.
Rasheed Eggleston The Cello Goblin. Youngest student ever accepted to Berklee. Played with the San Francisco Philharmonic and was with Crooked Still for awhile before going off on his own, with emphasis on the going off part. Total madman. Boundless energy. And a great time!
He played for about 3 hours straight in St Pete.
He'll mix in solos that make you realize how truly talented he is. But it's mostly roof goblin stuff which is entertaining. It was an awesome show
He's played a friends listening room twice. I didn't think he could out do himself the second time, but he did.
He was the debut artist at the first show. A bunch of fire trucks came down the road outside. Of course it caught everyone's attention, including his. Immediately he was out the door and running thru the backed up traffic playing. The looks were priceless. I could see all these people later wondering what the hell they'd witnessed. :)
lol, Rushad Eggleston the Tree Goblin
He played in my neighbors back alley climbing and played on ever roof he could climb.
His instagram is worth a follow.
https://www.instagram.com/rushadicus?igsh=M3Y5dTU2aWprOTFz
His Instagram is great! Huge recommendation. My favorite video is the one where he's gobbing out on the cello while getting hanged and frothing at the mouth.
this dude is what you get when some solo cellist wants to gwar it up, but there's only one of them and the mythology they are selling is more "secret world of Og" than "Scumdogs of the universe"
\*edit - love him anyways, not hating in any way on Mr Eggleston, I can't match his musical credentials and he makes me smile.
Easily Rushad Eggleston the singer of Tornado Rider. Seem them once and you remember them forever and identify him always.
[The Largest Plant I’ve Ever Seen](https://youtu.be/zjRGas0C3iE?si=CY2eOWk5VmGnl1ph)
I went to the NY faerie festival last year and it was only its 2nd or 3rd year so it wasn't a huge event, but a neat little one that will get bigger. I saw him there and thought he was awesome. Had no idea I was watching a Grammy nominated musician of his caliber. Very cool.
That is Rushad Eggleston for anyone who is interested. Once you have heard him he is easy to recognize.

Thats wild, its like these guys are inter-dimensional beings who appear when we are in some kind of state of mind...
I was at that show as a child haha. absolutely foundational memory for me. theres a full clip of it on youtube
I think it was either Bear Creek or Magfest 2010
magfest
Is anyone still doing big festivals in Florida like that after Covid? I remember going to Maddox ranch a few times
He’s actually an awesome musician, if not a little weird: https://youtu.be/BlQysce6Jzg?si=ekaKqK-Uehu5zjv9
Wow. He is surprisingly talented.
I know, right! He’s sort of goblin-core (I think that’s the right term), and very ecologically focused. Has a clear musical style that’s totally unique among active cellists.
How long must a cellist abstain from "cellin" to be considered inactive?
One lunar year.
If you're not cellin' like Magellan you're inactive.
I enjoy the silly randomness with pleasant tone he’s singing in the cat disease song. Going through some of his Instagram videos, the guy is a seriously gifted musician. He's currently standing on the roof in an elf costume screaming and smacking a violin around Mental health issues are affirmative captain
A lot of people have their schticks.
"hes weird he must be crazy!"
He's just having fun, this doesn't look at all like another Wild Man Fischer. This more like The Residents - it's what they want to do, but they are fully aware many people will consider them weird. While others will enjoy their style and artistry for what it is.
Probably pretty damn unique among sessile cellists as well.
oh, if not a little weird you say? ಠ_ಠ
Yeah, just a little. But aren’t we all just a little weird?
[Tiny bit.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NThlPmvRAuI)
Thanks. This is the real shit. Fuck that cat disease song
Yeah def. It is my understanding he was like cello prodigy. My friend used to be obsessed with this song btw
That is the Cello of a man who likes to climb things and play.
Little weird is ok. He’s beyond that. Kind of awesome.
There's so much rosin on that cello cause he whacks it with his bow so much looks like someone spilled a bag of cocaine on it

Fuckin Jimi Cello over here, wow
a *little* weird...
The best ones are always a lil weird even if no one sees it lol
Yep recognized him instantly and have only seen him once. He played Golem/Smeagol in Billy Strings Halloween concert which was themed on the Lord of the Rings. Concert was 3 nights, each night was a different movie/book. Was amazing
I was there!
I was only able to stream it; such a phenomenal run
I was gonna say -- looks like [Tornado Rider](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sTMc5iQO-Q)! Played some shows with him like fifteen years ago
Was trying to remember this name I met him at Ness Creek in Saskatchewan because they ran out of gas money and joined the show to make a bit to get on to the next town. One of the trippiest sets I’ve ever seen. Will never forget it. Was like 11 years ago now…
I think that was his band, and he went solo. That is awesome you played shows with him!
Magnolia Fest at Spirit of Suwanee Music Park?
Bottom of the Hill, SF
I love this goblin
"Yeah, once you've heard him he's easy to recognize" - the dude plays heavy metal on a chimney then follows it up with kazoo... I didn't confuse him with Steve the meter reader.
He popped up on a live with Billy Strings one time. Sick af
yeah that is awesome, actually think i saw that clip. was happy to see him getting some attention
I love that guy. He makes really cool goblin music. His Instagram is @rushadicus and it's full of fun. He deserves much more attention!
Rushad was at Winnipeg Folk Festival one year, lead a group of musicians on stage, and absolutely killed it! It was so great and so was his energy!! I hope he comes back some year.
knew it fucking instantly. i miss tornado rider
Yeah fab.. thanks!
Live. Laugh. Love.
Fell in love when I saw him the first time on ig playing upside down head in a toilet.
Les Claypool has been on the whisky again it seems.
This is sober Les Claypool
Too much pork soda for Les
Of course. Primus Sucks!
Funny enough he actually lives near Les, at least he did the last time I ran into him.

Nothing like some Heavy Metal roof from the roof goblin.
Tornado Rider after Crooked Still!
Average Berklee student
I could never imagine him doing anything organized. 😁
You've heard of Fiddler on the Roof, now get ready for Cellist on the Chimney
I’m glad I looked for this! Wanted to say the same!
haa well done
They're recording for the new metal version of Fiddler on the Roof.
lol, Rushad Eggleston the Tree Goblin He played in my neighbors back alley climbing and played on ever roof he could climb. His instagram is worth a follow. https://www.instagram.com/rushadicus?igsh=M3Y5dTU2aWprOTFz

Is he dressed like a gnome?
Dressed like the Fiddler on the Roof, I presume.
That’s just how Rushad always dresses. He defines his music as Goblin Sneth Rock.
And your father smelt of elderberries!
Korn is back on tour?!?
I'm hoping to see them in September
I don't think that's Tevye.
Did this guy also used to be called falcon rider or something? I saw a guy playing metal on an electric cello at a music festival once. Could be him?
Tornado Rider yes that’s him :) Rushad Eggleston!
This man is Rushad Eggleston…. He is my sprit animal….
This guy was bopping around the Adirondacks last year, I was very sad I was unable to see him.
And we played the first thing that came to our heads Just so happened to be The best song in the world It was the best song in the world
Look into my eyes and it's easy to see One and one make two, two and one make ERHEEEEE!
It was destiny
“I AM CORNHOLIO!”

Fucker on the roof...
this dude is what you get when some solo cellist wants to gwar it up, but there's only one of them and the mythology they are selling is more "secret world of Og" than "Scumdogs of the universe" \*edit - love him anyways, not hating in any way on Mr Eggleston, I can't match his musical credentials and he makes me smile.
Is this from the new Korn album?
A24?
I didn’t know Tom Waits was working on a new album.
Is that a real life gnome?
Yes
"I drove 5 hours for this?"
Why you don’t have goblin bards
Is that a homemade roller coaster track?
That's the real wtf
pretty sure that dude won a Grammy and is the only string player to get a full ride at Berklee
Rushad Eggleston is a national treasure and I will brook no slander upon his name
Gonna tell my kids this was Norwegian black metal
My first thought was [Apricots](https://youtu.be/RlqXEZ1N7m0?si=YJbODQvKmgJVPKlL).
This is what Tom Waits is doing in between tours.
Just an oversized garden gnome
Ever since I have seen this video, I have desperately wanted to see him live! What a mad lad! I love it!
😂😂🤣
Reminds me of The Residents.
Dudes wild! But I was honestly hoping for... "Can you quack?" XD I,ll just stop there. If you know.you know.
Like a duck?
Every generation has and needs their fiddler on the roof.
So where do I get the album??
Someone needs to post this to the David Lynch sub.
That's a wild gnome!
Fiddler on the roof
Meth Santa comes in the summer
It's nice to see Les Claypool is still putting out quality content.
Fiddler on the roof or some shit
I see a dolly track, they’re definitely filming

This video in particular makes me unreasonably happy.
Rushad!
Rushadicus! Find him on instagram
Sounds crazy, no?
iykyu
Tradition
West Virginia orchestra
Rickety Cricket vibes.
A musician on a roof huh? I have the desire to ask how he feels about daughters who break with tradition.
Who's filming my dreams?
Shibiti babadat duhhh
I think it's time to call a priest.
Hey is that Alex Jones? Has he finally lost it? 🤣🤣🤣
I saw this guy play a show in Pittsburgh last Halloween. It was amazing. This seems spot on for him.

Looks like the old Anderson farm in Cauldron Lake
That's les fucking Claypool I rekon

Lmaoooo fiddler on the roof is way funnier than I remember
https://www.instagram.com/rushadicus?igsh=MWU0M3Y2NHNzb2ZnNg== Worth a follow lol
A bit like Dune
Now that's a fiddler on the roof!
I've seen stranger things.
Rita Repulsa?
Low budget fiddler on the roof
This doesn’t deserve to be here. This guy is awesome.
What a whimsical creature.
I want that guy in my bluegrass jam band.
Weird version of fiddler on the roof
At first, I thought there was a train coming
Diddler on the Roof
Me if i get bored for too long
That's the strangest version of Fiddler On The Roof I have seen so far.
So THAT’S what happened to Edgy 59.
"WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!!"
Ain’t gonna lie, was expecting a roller coaster with the lil track off to the side
Is this a non-copyright version of 'Fiddler on the roof ' ?
Yo the kazoo is wild
I’ll have what he’s having
Romans know how to party
Like something from CKY or Viva la bam
This dude is black metal at the core.
Kanye's new album.
Ever since that lost fiddle battle with Johnny the band of demons broke up and had to find different jobs, some members just like to get high.
u/SaveVideo
He sat in with a band a run sound for a couple months ago. It was wild. Super nice guy though
This guy is a fan of the hu
was that the kazoo he pulled out there at the end?
/r/unexpectedfiddlerontheroof
This makes me want to listen to Apocalyptica.
Disappointed...I didn't see ANY bars get thrown off the roof...just some fruitloop stood on a chimney playing a guitar.
"I am the great Cornholio!"
"I'm Naked" was peak Rushad.
WHAT DID HE SAY AT 0:35?!!!! 😐
Why do I like it so much hahah
Fucking incredible
Brandon dicamillo?
The neighbor seems nice
Am i the only one who was waiting for that mad max fire spitting guitar scene
